Is it me or does this special lower YOUR defenses instead of your victims. If so, is it me or is this special busted?

I think it's supposed to make you vulernable. It says that in the description. Though I may be thinking of another attack.

It makes you vulnerable, but especially in its advanced form, its very effective. Along with stopping, panic, and low blow its become one of my number one attacks because it takes so much damage off your enemy quickly.

Ok back the the testing ground, I guess i was looking for some "state" ect on my target, and never really gave it enough attention in the damage department. I'll go retest today.
Funny Story
And in other news, as posted by others in another thread, in my quest to test/find out how these specials all work i basically log two of my toons and test. To my dismay initially, i really didnt get last ditch, Until, I fired a round off when by chance i was low on ham and one shot incaped may MBH/MP/0/3/0/0 carbs fully armored with psg full of health. To say the least, my jaw dropped and you can bet there will be some very suprised people the tussle with smugglers in the future. This little special will be on my toolbar without a doubt!- i love it.

It gives you some negative defense, forget the exact number. You can see what the number is by doing the attack and then hovering your mouse over the icon that has suddenly appeared underneath your bars (which happens to be the debuff from the reckless shot you just did).

The description for reckless shot is that it places a defensive penalty on the target. Right now, the icon for the defensive penalty is placed on the smuggler who uses it.. not the target that you are firing at. I also checked my combat log, and the damage I was taking rose when I used reckless shot, proving that the smuggler is the one who recieves the defensive penalty.
Is the special not working properly or is the description simply wrong? If its the latter.. I don't see why any profession is rewarded at the Master level with a special that has a negative effect for the person who uses it.

Reckless shot is supposed to put a penalty on the user. Hense the term "reckless"... it's supposed to represent a desperate attempt by the user to inflict more damage on the target, making the user more open to retaliation.

So the description is just wrong? That may be the case.. and I see your point. But when I think of a "desperate attempt by the user to inflict more damage", I think of Last Ditch.
If this was the case and that reckless shot was a higher damage output special with a penalty cost.. that would somewhat understandable. But rifleman specials have higher damage modifiers, so this attack is not really THAT powerful. Also.. what other basic damage attack do smuggler's have aside from reckless shot? If the only shot used for pure damage output has a defensive penalty for using it.. thats a little bit harsh no?

Smuggler is not meant to be a high damage dealing profession. State effects are a Smuggler's speciality.
If you read the description for Reckless Shot in Delinquency I, it says, "Used as a last resort this ability unleashes a large barrage of shots at the target. This attack will place you in a very vulnerable position and causesa defensive penalty to the attacker."
"Attacker" = you, the smuggler, not your target.
Improved and advanced do say "target," but it's not the first typo in the game...

Just checked that out too.. oh well. I guess its just a stupid special imho.
I think its more accurate to say that smugglers specialty is modifying, not state effects.. since we dont have a stun/blind/kd/dizzy attack.

To be honest, it's a smugglers absolute worst special. It's our most damaging attack (Last Ditch only fires once a year, so we're not including that), yet it only does 20-30 pts more damage than Pistoleer's Body Shot from Nov Pistols, plus it slaps us with a hefty negative to our defence.

If you are a pure Smuggler and want or have to KD something that has gotten too close the lowbie firearm strike will still do it. Use it all the time myself. You can then fire offadv reckless to get the extra damage from the mob being down thento imp restraining shot while moving away if you want to kite, or just drop panic or concussion shot til you get 35m away then start firing again.

Reckless Shot is best used when your taking a negative defence modifier can be mitigated, or when you're willing to take the modifier because it might be the final shot fired.
Best special to use prior to Reckless Shot: Intimidate Shot, lowers your attacker's damage potential so its about even(against you) when you use Reckless Shot.
