I like it because it's versitle. I'm gonna also master pistoleer, get arisan 0040 (for selling sliced weapons and armor), novice medic and still have enough points for a few boxes in scout. I think it leaves me with 1020 in scout. With a good harvester droid, you can get a decent amount of hide or meat. So you can basically do it all. Business, hunting, crafting, slicing and fighting. Plenty of ways to make dough and still be a pretty good fighter. You may not be soloing elders, but you can mop up Fort Tuskan and other mid-level to lower high-end mobs.

Well is there something else you would rather do? If so, go for it and have fun.
I stay a Master Smuggler from a personal need to be one. I would love this profession even if all it did was let us wear pirate gear. It's up to you whether or not what you have is enough for you and how you would better enjoy your gameplay and time.

I had master smuggler for image and for FD. I was thinking of myself as some sort of Talon Karrde wannabe...and actually I had great fun roleplaying. Although not much practicality in it.

well i wouldn't become a slice-bot, that just plain sucks.
Personally i use the Underworld tree to buy faction stuff for myself and friends, spices i very rarely make, Dirtyfighting for a backup when people run away from my TK range, and last but not least slicing, is i very high demand, but i only slice for myself and trusted friends.
If you ask me sliced weapons and armor is far to common, getting something sliced should be like a Wow thing, that why i don't slice for the public. Ofcourse if you offer my something good i might get my laserknives out, but that doesn't happen very often, most people think slices are 100creds per % or some fixed price like 3k.
So basicly i keep Master because of the coolness factor and to help my friends.

Unless you're a true-blue Master Masochist there probably isn't any reason to keep it.
I, on the other hand, love the self-flagilation of waiting for SOE devs to actually give us something to smuggler.

For me, it's all about that tag on the top of my toon...it says Master....and like Caylin said, this is the only prof I've wanted to be in this game since I began, but if it isn't for you, drop it and find what makes you happy.
There is a certain aura that goes with the title, unfortunately, practicality doesn't also go with the title at the moment.
Good luck

You know I'd always been proud of having the Master Smuggler title because I KNEW that one day we would actually BE smugglers. But we still are NOT smugglers in any sense of the word.
Now, however, I have this Dawn of Reality thing happening in my head that is showing me we are not likely to actually ever be smugglers...at least not in the next 12 months.
So now my Master Smuggler title is making me feel more and more like it says "Master Sucker".

I think I stay Master Smuggler because of the dedication it takes to stay one, especially for a long period of time. Not to mention the best community in the game by far.
I think the other thing is simply the image. It is bar none, the best role playing profession in the game. Not even Jedi can top that sincea lotare power gamers and don't really care for the quality of immersion other than their own profession and/or combat/PvP.
I'll be a Master Smuggler indefinately. I think you have to love this profession to stay in it, otherwise you'll end up quitting the game trying to stick it out. I see way more "I'm quitting the game because I was tired of the lies and pushbacks to the Smuggler profession!" than the "I'm going to try another profession while I wait on Smuggler to be fixed."
Up to you though

Personally, I feel that the Smuggler profession chooses you instead of you choosing Smuggler. Either you'll love it, despite all the flaws, or you'll hate it, drop it, and move on.
I'll occasionally find myself wondering why I'm still a Smuggler after all this time, but then I'll look at the alternative professions and realize that there's really nothing else that I care to be doing. And, as Nick said, there's no better community to be a part of.
Shoot...even my Merchant alt is part Smuggler (UW 4).
I'm a Smuggler indefinitely as well. There's just no other option for me. The profession sucked me in completely, and I find myself hard pressed to deny it's calling.

There isn't a whole lot of reason to stay Smuggler right now other then being able to say you're the "scum of the galaxy". This profession wont get you far. I mean, spices are useless, our combat skills aren't very good (besides a couple), we really have no use for Underworld, and slicing is about the only thing we can even do.
I'm a Master Smuggler/Master Commando/Alliance Ace. It's a good combination, I feel, for becoming a "space pirate".
So that's what I am...

In my case I find Underworld the most useful and profitable. On my server not too many smugglers sell faction points, I assume because we need to be overt whilst doing so. I have a nich there and I LOVE it. I've been a smuggler a long time and for me, I would never drop it. That being said of late I have looked at my template & wondered what the actual master box does for me besides the 25% discount. I am considering dropping it so I can lose the spice and slicing tree. All the smugglers slice, there is really no need for me too, and the profit is just too low for the time it takes me to do. But Underworld and Pistol tree are must halves. Can anyone think of a reason I am missing to keep master? Of course if I drop slicing I can no longer participate in base takedowns...
