This is just a thought and admitedly not well thought out yet so this may be ridiculous.

I'm an old Everquest junky and one of the things I liked most about Everquest was well, the quests. I think some very interesting things could be done in the way of quests for the smuggler profession. Maybe it could be terminals or NPC's, I don't care and that isn't the important part.

Missions would be basic smuggling missions. You get your mission from either an NPC or a terminal and have to get either illegal contraband past Imperials or Imperial plans to an undercover Imp at a Rebel base, whatever. If you get caught there should be some penalty which also isn't the important part. I was thinking if you DID get caught, it would be kind of like having your name and your picture on WANTED sign. Before you could take a mision, the mission giver would demand that you change your appearance because everyone in the galaxy now knows that face as the smuggler who got caught with five heavy particle beams in Bestine by an Imperial Stormtrooper.

That means you must go to your local image designer and get some plastic surgery or something of that nature. Skin tone color or tummy tuck or whatever. That way, you no longer look like the guy on the Wanted Sign and the mission giver feels comfortable that you may be able to complete the task.

Thoughts? Critiques? I have thick skin, so let me have it. I promise I won't get feelings hurt.

Oh, I like it! It gives the Image Designer profession more utility, and it reminds me of FACE/OFF and Minority Report.
I don't know if I'm a huge fan of Wanted Signs, but this would go hand-in-hand with what is being spoken about with the Revamp threads.
If an ID changed a major feature of your avatar, it could lower your visibility. I think it'd have to be a predetermined set of features that could be changed (something like eye color wouldn't decrease visibility). The more of these details that are changed, the more your visibility is lowered.

Actually, if I may quote Me, I think it would be much more streamlined if each aspect of your character changed by an ID lowers your visibility by the same amount. That way, you are benefitted by making much more drastic changes.

yeah, I didn't mean for there to actually be WANTED signs. I was just thinking that if you got caught the result should be that people know your face everywhere you go and thus you get scanned all the time and can't get any new missions or quests without having some changes by an ID. I was kind of thinking that the more drastic the change the more your visablity should go down, but I didn't know how easy/dificult it would be do that, so I didn't push it. I know about as much about computer and video game programming as I know about rocket science (communication major so I know jack squat about rocket science).

Actually, wanted signs would be cool. They could be a droid module (projector) and essentially render head-only images of the target in a very reduced colorscale. I'm sure that the rendering data is relatively small, since all the facial features are codified. How they could used to make the actual 'match' would probably be harder to code, but should be doable. You might target the player you suspect is the wanted man, go to a radial command on the droid, and hit 'verify facial match' and see what happens. If they've been altered, the droid gives you a no match, if they haven't, the target gets a TEF.

Good idea.....

My only concern is that after the jedi revamp, which is supposedly going to end hologrinding, there will be less and less image designers available. Somehow, unless they drastically reduce the number of skill points required to master ID, I think smugglers may have a very difficult time finding someone to perform the services required. I also don't think that the proposed change would be motivation enough for people to want to become Image designers.

IMO, they should get rid of the Image Design profession altogether and leave it to NPCs.

Anyway, assuming we can find an ID when we need them, then I think its a great idea.

It is not a bad idea but I like the way I look and really dont want to have to change anything about myself just to get a mission.

They could just as easily create temporary disguise kits. Gives you instant visibility adjustment, but the changes wear out over time. Gives the ID some sustainable income, and they can place them on vendors (for theatrical applications of course, not criminal, no no, don't even think that way! :smileywink so that Sumugglers wouldn't have to actively seek a live ID to help them out.

Say a day or 2 and you go back to your normal dashing self, or maybe you can remove it yourself, but you gain back a percentage of the visibility hit.

This idea has been around for quite some time, but I don't think it has ever been refined. There just ended up being various versions of it. It's good to see it back in context with the proposed visibility changes.

Options abound I say...

I like the idea of temperary disguise kits. Would give ID's something else to sell and would be great for us for roleplaying going "on the run". I could see a method of decreasing visibility being applying a disguise kit and then sitting in a cantina or other public place where you would just blend in. Could even be kind of fun for folks if the kit changed all your image stats totally randomly for say like an hour. Could even change your race or sex appearance. I know when I'm wanted, throwing on a couple of horns and a tatoo and pretending my human is a zabrak would make a good disguise.

I think that would be one of the ways it works so well with the ideas for the new mission system. You don't need to change yourself to get a mission. It is an optional means of lowering your visibility and would not be mandatory.

I'm just gonna wear my big black rimmed glasses with the big nose and black, bushy mustache.

I think they should drop the ID profession too and leave it to NPC's or terminals.
