As some might be aware, JustG has made an announcement regarding the
href="http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Developers&message.id=44991" target=_blank>removal
of recursive macros.
of recursive macros.
What some of you might not be aware of, is what this means to
smugglers.
smugglers.
We will no longer be able to use the spice grinding macro...
and above all...
The faction grinding macro will no longer be an alternative to advanced
carpal tunnel.
carpal tunnel.
He recognized my comment on this (At last, I've
been telling them this for a month...) so I'll see what can be done to improve
the faction purchase system.

They better do something, otherwise the underworld tree is now completely worthless.

I sure hope he listens, Caylin. Hopefully it's not another 'in concept' idea that will have to wait for our revamp for improvement. Although I understand some of their changes, They keep slowly sucking the life out of this profession without putting anything back into it to spark it up. :/

What's this faction thing you speak of? I have been a Smuggler since January, and haven't heard of like any of this stuff, heh.

Check the important links thread up in the sticky section under faction point selling guide.

Got it, thanks. Now I understand why you are worried, I have gotten several orders for thousands upon thousands of fp....

Problem for me is, selling FP is like my #1 source of income.
So I guess I'm just gonna raise my slicing prices 300% to offset the financial loss from this nerf.

And all this time I thought the devs rational behind implementing a complex macro system to ease the need for 3rd party macro programs MADE SENSE. This b.s. move will do NOTHING but increase players desire to seek out 3rd party programs.

They have to do something about FP buying/selling. Without the macro doing large orders will be insane... if they really mean to make this change then we need to fight to get them to change the FP buying interface. Perhaps a slider bar, with a 2 minute timer or something along those lines.

Well, I wouldnt say it completely ruins the faction business or spice crafting, it just makes it a bit mroe tedious. All its doing is forcing you to hit F5 (or wherever you put your macro) every few seconds as opposed to letting the macro do this task as well. Unless the order is huge, this really isnt a problem. Back before I could get my macro to work properly, I had to do something similar to this and I really didnt have a big problem with it. Granted, it will make larger orders much more annoying, but overall I dont think it is too big of a deal. Now, if we could somehow get them to raise the amount of faction we can purchase or remove the 500 point cap as a result of this change, then I dont think you would hear a single soul complain about that.
Besides, look on the bright side: Hopefully this will put an end to afk-spammers, which have made going to cities like Coronet and Theed a real chore. It also helps those entertainers, most of whom have gone into hiding with the cantinas full of afk dancers and musicians. This very well could return certain social aspects to the game that have been missing for a very long time. One can hope anyway!

Well...I posted a response...

Direct effect on smugglers and the GCW as far as grinding faction points.
The recursive macro is almost required for large orders unless you want advanced carpal tunnel.
Highly suggest that if you remove the recursive macro, you make smuggler faction purchases much more user friendly.
What would you suggest?
Change the user interface to allow us to manually input a set amount of points (up to the FP cap for our current rank), and charge a set amount per point.
Hypothetical example:
Smuggler clicks "I would like to make a donation." on the recruiter menu.
A UI window pops up with a sliding bar on it, representing how much we can buy. The UI could do a check against our rank to determine what the maximum we can buy actually is, or it could just disregard any amount over our rank cap. Charge 80 creds per point, (which is what Imps are paying for FP now).
Click "Finish"...the system does a check against your bank account to make sure you have enough creds to cover the transaction, and you're done.
Clean and simple.

Our whole buying system should be we can sell however much to ANYBODY we want to. But we can't sell to ourselves more than say 1000 fp.They should get rid of the continuous talking to the recruiter altogether.
It wouldn't make us any richer, as we'd still be doing the same old FP selling as usual.
I can seriously vouch for myself that FP selling is NOT my mainstay income maker. I sell FP on occasion, in spurts.

WRONG. Get creative people!!! As long as the *only* change that is made is the inabilty to call a macro with another macro this change will DO NOTHING FOR AFK SPAM. The only thing that it will will do is make it a minor pain in the ass to setup macros to spawm for upwords of hours. Here's a rough scenario:
Broken_Smuggler wrote:Besides, look on the bright side: Hopefully this will put an end to afk-spammers, which have made going to cities like Coronet and Theed a real chore.
basic afk spam macro - new style:
/pause XXX;
/shout Buy My Crap Now!
/pause 30;
/shout Buy My Crap Now!
/pause 30;
/shout Buy My Crap Now!
/pause 30;
/shout Buy My Crap Now!
/pause 30;
[... looped until the macro runs out of chars ...]
Now, because of character limits in macros this macro might might last 15minutes. BUT, if you copy this macro 10 times and edit the first pause to put it in 15min increments you can then trigger all the macros at once (slide your finger across all the Fkeys for example) and then walk away for 150minutes of uninterrupted AFK spamming.
