Thread: Cross-server Channels

I know it's a minor issue in the scheme of things, but Wes or Caylin, would you mind inquiring of the devs whether there's any intention to allow cross-server chat channels, and if not why not? It seems especially silly not to have them when EQ2 players can join any SWG galaxy's channels, but SWG players--the game that has those galaxies, they might remember--can't. Cause I would kill for a universal SIN channel. Me, Dreven, and Max have a blast in ours; can't imagine what it'd be like if we could round up the whole gang here.

Please ask me to kill for a universal SIN channel...

*holds up picket sign demanding access to cross-server chat rooms*

Come on...how hard can this be? It's not like it's a game-breaking issue or anything...

Yeah well...

I dunno. Promise them we'll only settle down by being able to talk to one another, not plot anything devious. You bloodthirsty maniacs.

Considering people from an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GAME can access and join chatrooms on the Galaxies chat servers, I don't really see what the big issue would be to just grant people who are actually paying to play THIS game access to the next level up in the chat directory...

I just had a thought...

If we had cross-server chat channels, I think our forum time would be cut way down...since we'd be spending more time in game and using the chat channel as a means of communication with our brothers and sisters on other servers instead of using the forums.

The forums would then just become a place for the more detailed discussions to take place.

And, of course, the forums would still provide amusement for us poor slobs at work every day...

And you're saying that's a good thing, right? More people in the game(!!!), real time discussions, more detail on the forums...

I want to cry that sounds so good

Of course I'm saying it's a good thing!

Another cool thing would be some kind of web-based interface that would allow us to join the chat servers when we don't have access to the game...but something tells me that's just not an option...

I think the EQ2 groupies have it. I've sent tells to my former PA "friends" who jumped ship when it said they were on EQ2. They replied with "How the hell are you talking to me? I'm not even in the game, just in the site chat!"

So, I'm guessing they have some outside chat interface that works with the in game stuff. I gather that's a completely different game but there has to be a ton of similarity between the chat clients since they can communicate with each other and are meant to be.

EQ2 players have a really great chat-site that they can access only from the login screen. Thats probly how they got your /tell. As awesome as that is, it still wouldn't help those of us that are at work, as I don't think my corp. will let me install 3 gig worth of game just so I can chat when Im supposed to be working on other stuff

Ah, I see. I didn't know it was on the actual launchpad/log-in screen. I figured it was on some part of the website or something. My bad!

Nah, thats cool. The only reason I know this is because my GF plays EQ2 (left me alone in the SWG universe *sniff*) This is a great Idea, but since our SOE-Forum login is the same as our game login, why cant this bea web-based app instead?
