Thread: Is anyone else wondering...

What the FD fix had to do with the GCW changes? I've been chewing on that one for a couple days now, especially since Dreven and the others did some testing of the skill. Is this a case of smoke and mirrors again? I know their ultimate justification is it not belonging in PvP, but their justification of timing is the GCW changes. Just another thing to be curious and speculative about since they haven't said anything in awhile. (The Dev tracker has been mighty quite except for the TC Bug threads.)

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

The Merchants saw our contraband-poll, and they paid the devs to nerf us.

Honestly, I think it has nothing at all to do with the GCW. The devs took the easy way to fix the Jedi vs BH issue. That they did it before the CURB is just because they don't respect the Smugglers at all, covered by an insulting "=)" and an obvious lie.

LOL, I wasn't saying conspiracy, just trying to point out the obvious. A lot of people probably missed it in their initial and continued anger.

I figure the more we're able to point this stuff out, the more people will be aware of a "doubletalk" that certain people are capable of.

Not accusing of anyone being a liar... We all know where that gets us.

Yeh, makes me die laughing how apparently all combat balances will be made with the CU, yet FD (a combat move) gets a stealth 'fix' anyway... hmm... very poor.

Actually, that doesn't even bother me so much. Ya know what does bother me? The fact that nobody asked us if we wanted it. The fact we weren't consulted. The fact that the devs saw fit to just throw that nerf in there without even a, "thanks for the monthly, now here's a smack in the mouth".

Yes. I am wanting SOE to explain exactly what that meant.

As I have said, we need to hear from SOE about this change; specifically what it means regarding the GCW and with what and when they are going to replace that move for Smugglers, who now have TWO working combat specials in PVP. Arguments can be made that we are not a combat class (although why it would be ok to take away an existing combat skill without replacing it is not something that to me is immediately obvious), however, Smugglers have to go "Special Forces" ("overt") to sell faction. Yes, it will only take five minutes to go "combatant" again, but five minutes is plenty of time to die.

I don't see any direct correlation to the GCW changes. My best guess is that JustG just couldn't think of something better to come up with at the time. We all know he's not the greatest at "thinking on his feet" so to speak.

The only remotely related impact it will have on the GCW, that I can see is that it will allow FD-ing Jedi to be killed...

I think it's obvious. They are making big changes to the GCW and want more people to participate.
People will only get irritated when they try to kill a player, knowing they are playing dead and not able to do a damn thing about it. It's one thing to pretend you are dead, another to actually get away with it. In PvP you are fighting against a supposidly better, more competant enemy, which is why after the FD fix, you wont fool players with feigning your death but you will still fool mobs.

Also with the changes we have lost TEFs and more importantly, group TEFs. BH & Jedi will be 1 on 1 and with this fix Jedi can no longer use FD to escape their XP loss which will now mean they will have to level in hiding, be more carefull and stay of the terminals otherwise they will be hunted and possibly killed, without having an "invunerable" button.

So the way I see it (im a strong believer in FD being lame/wrong/unacceptable in PvP) the FD changes are great for the GCW and for the Jedi situation. We still have the skill against PvE enemies and now it wont be used as that so called "invunerable" button in PvP.

With the removal of the TEF, if the player is a combatant/PvP disabled and in combat against faction NPCs they have no threat of other players being able to attack/DB them; thus, all PvE content is now accessible for players without the chance of PvP and therefor they could safely 'fix' FD so that players can be DB'd when used in PvP.

This was my understanding and assumption of their thinking process.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they already removed the penalty in PvP by removing decay at death. Might have missed the boat on that one a long time ago, but I'm pretty sure that's the way it works.

In any case, I have no problem with a need to "fix" FD. It's the way they "fixed" it. Not to mention one big question on this.

Aren't certain templates and stackers the greatest detractor from PvP? Are they not the reason PvP is "so bad", and the reason for the CURB.

FD was not so much the worrisome factor in PvP until recently, so their justification is still grasping at straws. It's the easiest way for them to justify it, even though I don't see much justification in it.

I understand your reasoning, Wes. But we really DO need to hear from SOE about this change; specifically what it means regarding the GCW (we shouldn't have to assume or deduct or guess -- that is just... "beyond the beyond" as my old Irish grandmother used to say).

And while SOE may feel it has safely "fixed" FD we ALSO need to hear from them regarding when and with what they are going to replace that move for Smugglers who now have TWO working combat specials in PVP. What is the plan?

A replacement and/or change to FD is really a CU feature, one that we'll just have to wait and seegiven their NDA covering allprofessions. Not much I can say until then
