Good start for same faction scans..
Now what happens when you are scanned by a different faction, ie. Imp on Red and vice versa.
Well, I don't know about most people but I usually roll around as a combatant so they tend to shoot first and ask questions later. Otherwise, I suppose, just increase the likelihood that the scan reveals you as opposing faction. If you're not prepared to fight and end up getting killed, well, you didn't have to carry a sliced weapon in the first place, did you?
I dont' always roll as a combatant.. but a thought would be to all for bribes. The higher you underworld, the better you can bribe your way out of it.

I like this idea, its creative.
It encourages smuggler business, it adds to the GCW, it adds a risk factor (that really good slice may dissappear, and may not be as good as your second slice), and there is lots of good content.

While I like it, and have made similar suggestions in the past, the two cons of this I see are:
1) Crackdown is not really working.
2) It goes along the lines of losing an item (that rare drop is effectively taken away).
Well that and I don't know if the code supports unslicing or not.
Anyway, I like the idea and have wanted something like this since launch, so hopefully the devs fix crackdown and change their minds on illegal goods being confiscated.

I think this is being envisioned as a replacement compromise to the the rare loot drop idea, not in addition to.

Well crackdown does kinda suck - but it would happen sometimes and hopefully crackdown will get much much better with the GCW revamp that is on the radar.
Also ... if a loot-based slice were undone ... the loot item used could be returned to the player along with the unsliced weapon. (seems too warm/fuzzy to me ... but it could be done)

This is a much better concept than Plan B.
Combine this and Plan A ...and we might have somthing.
Increase those scans also

Or Plan B with the loot drops coming from actual smuggling missions instead of this DWB/Avatar crap. If that goes through, good slices will mostly be in the hands of mega-guilds, putting yet another part of the game out of the hands of the average person.

I still love the idea! And with this, i think we'll have a cool profession again!
I've already posted this and i hope it can only pick up steam.
It wont require anything hugely new. We already have contraband scans, just supe them up to this. And then, Smugglers can be happy!

There is currently a suggestion in the Slicing Analysis thread that I really like. It makes contraband items more risky than legal ones by implementing a painless unslice.
The Weapon still works perfectly - a weaponsmiths masterpiece - just no slice mods. This would be no burden on anyone - the user can still use his uber weapon just fine and can get it resliced at his leisure.
I think this is a GREAT idea and simply SHOULD be implemented (please, DEVs).
I'd like to add one more idea to this. How about a minor demerit - the user loses a small amount of faction points as a black mark on his record. Something that would be fairly easy to earn back, but enough to make you blush in front of the officer that scolded you.
Imperial Scenario:
Trooper (NPC): Excuse me, sir, we need to scan you.
Officer (Player): /sigh;
Trooper: Sir, I'm afraid this weapon is out of compliance - I'll have to issue a standard build.
Officer: You'll do no such thing, that is my personal weapon.
Trooper: Sorry sir, take it up with HQ - all weapons must be within compliance - otherwise they are considered contraband.
Officer: How dare you! I am a loyal officer of the ...
Trooper: Now sir, nobody is accusing you of anything, I'm sure the weapon just needs retuned. I'll do that for you now. I will however have to note this in my logs.
*Officer's weapon loses slice modifiers (and can be resliced)*
*Officer losses X Imperial faction points (a minor demerit)*

Rebel Scenario:
Reb Officer (NPC): You there, I'll see that gear, please.
Rebel (Player): This?
Reb Officer: What is this!? Is this supposed to be a pistol or a time bomb?!
Rebel: That pistol is twice as fast as anything you issue, I'll have you know.
Reb Officer: All the same ... when you die on the battle field soldier, I'd like it to be because an Imp shot you - not because your pistol bomb finally blew. I'll just retune this weapon back to specs for you.
*Reb's weapon loses slice modifiers (and can be resliced)*
*Reb losses X Rebel faction points (a minor demerit)*

The non-factioned stuff is even easier to imagine.
EDIT: "X faction points" could scale up based on the 'custimization level' of the slice - higher powered slices are a more serious infraction.

I like this idea. Considering how RARE it is for a Crackdown or scan team to actually scan you.... I really wonder what the risk is, hehe.
