Thread: smuggling idea not sure how good it is,give VALUABLE input not just say the idea is terrable

Im not sure if this has been tossed out there or not so here goes.


As many people know there was a credit sink long ago called starship travel, then JTL came out and people use there ships to go places now, my proposal is a "DOCKING TAX" on ALL ITEMS in your ship or in your inventory, when you land in a starport there should be a NPC toon that turns to you and accessed the fee to charge you, it should be equal up to3 TIMESwhat you pay to get things insured, the more traveled the city the more tax should be applied. the tax should be applied EVERY time the player LANDS at a starport, not at the shuttle ports, unless player city mayors use a new LUXERY tax to tax players shuttling in to there cities, this option should be considerably less than the Starports though.

- craftable "HOLDS" that shipwrights can put in ships for every player to store items so they dont get taxed, the better the hold the more items can be stored, this ADDS inventory to a ship, not using inventory already available in a ship, bigger high level ships should be able to have MORE THAN ONE HOLD.


- smugglers pay a CONSIDERABLE less of a percentage than the rest of the populace. novices pay 90%, 1111 pay 75%, 2222pay 50%, 3333 pay 30%, 4444 pay 10%, and masters pay 1%


- people grouped with smugglers traveling with them pay the percentage that smugglers pay


- smugglers can craft (FAKE) manafests for there cargo, allowing players to move around skirting the docking tax, the manafests should NOT be reusable, every landing on a plannet should take a manafest, master smugglers should be able to craft a manafest with a low amount of items, similarly nov smugglers should have a high amout of items on there manafests.


- certain items avaliable only on smuggler missions should be transferable only by smugglers or risk them being conficated. Such as ingreadiants for spices or drugs (which should be devied up between doctor and cheff, freeing us up for another conbat line, or another USEFULL skill), the ingreadeants should be avaiable only on smuggling missions

- shipwrights can sell ships with SLOTS for "HOLDS" in them the actual hold will have to be installed by a smuggler


- mayors get a new tax option


- make it so players on missions that require them to travel ecape the docking tax (ie bounty hunter missions)


-adds spices and drugs to cheff and doctors where they should be in the first place


BENIFITS


adds new roll play situations to smuggler


allows smugglers to SMUGGLE items on to a plannet with out getting taxed


allows A large credit sink to form, credit sinks acualy keep the economy LOWER because if everyone has lots of money people charge more, the less money available the less people can charge


bring alive a underworld that has been lacking


Large lush NPC cities that are rairly traveled will be traveled more because people will try to skirt the Docking Tax


will add meaning to hard luck people that actualy cant afford to pay the tax, if they land someplace and cant afford to pay the DOCKING TAX, HIGH LEVEL NOVA STORMTROOPERS will attempt to apprehend the offendors (REGARDLESS OF RANK, AND FACTION) they can either run (running might rusult in death)or be searched, if contraband is found the items will be confacated (RETURNABLE WHEN THEY LEAVE IF THEY PAY THE DOCKING TAX) if they dont pay they cant get there ship back, not to mention there items


would encorage more trade and econemy by adding a new level to the economy




NEGATIVES


handcuffs players to paying 10000 or so credits for shuttling around to meet there friends

It's not that bad of an idea. I just think it would ruin the experience for players who have no money and just wanna fly around to meet their friends.

Another Idea would be to allow smugglers to craft fake id's that allow people to evade the taxes. This idea was passed around before.

And this credit sink is a good idea why? To drive up prices of everything? And I can immagine the BHvJ now...all the jedi needs to do is keep moving from planet to planet if a BH is after them untill the point where the BH pays more in this new cost than the bounty is worth.

This is a joke, right? This has to be a joke. Like he'll I'm going to pay a fee for every item I put into my ships. I have two POB ships, both with 100 items in them. No way in this world am I going to pay for all 200 items inside them. That's like having the maintaince fees on your house increase each time you drop a new item into them.
ANd besides that, your idea would make POB ships even more useless then they are right now.

The basic concept is good but your implimentation leaves LOTS to be desired.


Smuggling is moving goods with the intent of avoiding tarifs or import/export restrictions and regulations.


What you described gives smuggling to ANYONE and then just gives Smugglers a cut rate on the tarifs.


IF you really want to impliment smuggling for players then you need the following in place:


1. True contraband that differs from planet to planet and city to city. Basically local regulations as to what is permitted and/or permitted but taxed.


2. Scans in entry/exit points of cities...ie. starports and shuttleports.


3. Serious consequences of scans: heavy fines, confiscation of raw materials like illegal plants, or removal of illegal modifications.


4. Methods for Smugglers...I repeat SMUGGLERS...to avoid tarifs and restrictions. This might be where Smuggler secret compartments come in. Or bribes, Or standing in criminal organizations that 'influence' various cities law enforcement.


5.Risks for Smugglers smuggling. Like a chance of being caught, losing a customers goods due to confiscation and risking your customer or NPClaw enforcementputting out a bounty on you.


THIS is SMUGGLING. Will we ever get ANYTHING like it? I seriously doubt it.

1 this would ADD to the amount of cargo you could carry


2 the added cargo in a "hold or smuggler compartment" would not be dectecatable


3 Yes you would be charged for items your carrying unless you carry around a "fake" manafest OR are a smuggler OR are grouped to a smuggler


4 you wouldnt be charged for all your ships, just the one that you flew in to a starport with


5 would allow other ships to carry cargo also, I seam to remember x-wings haveing a cargo area under them


6 It would make ships MORE usefull now
