Well, I’ve had a day or two now to sit down and get my head through a load of documents and posts and I thought it time I let you know what I’m up to and what I’m thinking. I know I’d be somewhat curious as to what the new guy was up to, so I thought I’d alleviate any such curiosities any of you may have
.
First, I’ve been going through the combat revamp documents and I can tell you there’s some great stuff coming. It really will change things a lot and change them for the better. Thankfully I’ve had Caylin’s posts in the correspondent forum to point out Smuggler related issues that need taking up with the developers. Caylin’s been a great help these last few days and I’d be a lot further behind without him. The same goes for LordMaxx, so thank you both!
Before anyone asks, I’m afraid I’ve no news on when you’ll be getting the docs to read for yourselves, nor when the sandbox goes live, just know that I think it’s going to be worth the wait
. Those of you who were in the JTL beta will know how active and responsive the devs were on the beta forums. From what I’ve seen, they’regetting behind this revamp just as theydid withthe expansion, so no worries on their commitment to it.
What will I be doing then? Well, I’m going to fiddle around with the sticky posts, felt a bit apprehensive about touching Caylin’s stuff, but he’s assured me that it’d be ok
.
The devs want a few things from me, including an issues list (short version), an issues list (long version) and a state of the profession. Caylin’s excel sheet is pretty much the short version done and dusted. I’ve read your replies to his post and looked it over a few times since and I can’t think of anything else that needs to go there for now, so I’m going to move straight onto the more detailed issues list. There’s also a state of the profession report to do, so I’ll be getting started on that.
Many of you want to know the answer to the spice downer question. I’ve seen it and I agree with Caylin in that I can’t see a valid reason for not telling you, so I’ll be asking Tiggs about that when I send the issues list in. Don’t hold your breath, but who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky.
I’ve also been checking out the sandbox tester team, making sure they’re still alive etc. Hopefully we’ll have something to start testing soon, but as I said, no news yet. However, I did submit the five names to Tiggs before the deadline today, so here's hoping something happens soon
.
Well, that’s it really. Reading back on myselfit doesn’t sound like I’ve done that much.. so, er, I’d better get on withit
.

I don't think you need to worry about people harping on you for not doing much...it's only your second day! It's good to know you already have something to work on besides being caught up...it's good to be busy.
Remember, all you have to do is ask, and we will help you out with any of those projects you feel you need help on. Even if it is just a proof read, you know where we are!

You ever get the impression that the State of the Profession posts are like coffee room jokes at SOE.
Tiggs / TH: Hey...we told the new Smuggler Correspondent to write us up a new State of the Profession...*LOL*...and he's actually doing it!!
Seriously...other than adding a line about the borked autopull issue. A new State of Profession will look just like the OLD SoP.
Just looks like busy work for the new guy to me...
*shrug*
Ah well...I guess you've gotta do what you've gotta do...

I dunno, now that JTL is released, Space-related issues could also be included (smuggling-type missions in Smuggler's Alliance, etc.).
Wow, off to a quick start, Wes!! Looks like we got the right guy for the job.

Nice. I really do hope we can get an answer to that spice question. It could only help. We now have two Correspondent-types who know the answer and say they have no idea why they haven't told us, so it can't be too bad. Still want to know though. It was a kick in the... pants... to the spice trade, pretty much the final kick.

Also, thanks to your predecessor, don't forget you've got his 80 page behemoth for the LONG version of the issues list as well. It may need a bit of paring, and editing, but it'd be a good place to start. I say this honestly because we've all done enough of that to last two lifetimes so no need in you reinventing the wheel for any of these.

Don't stress over it. Others (many, MANY others) have laid a great foundation that just needs a little building on. Work with what you've got.

Wes, as you said in your into post....
You are not here to re-make Smuggler. You are not here to come up with amazing new ideas and totally change the face of Smuggler.
You are here to take all of the issues, concerns, and suggestions that the whole Smuggler community has, put it into a logical order, and offer it to the developers for them to check out.
From what you've said, you're doing it. That makes you a good correspondent.
Correspondents that use their position for their own agendas are worthless. That is not you.
