As an Ex-architect. I dont want this to be another crafting profession without renewable income.
Due to some ships being able to carry items. Ship hulls should be indestructable.

There is condition on components.
When you repair everything looses a % of its Hitpoints. When it hits 0/0 the part is then demolished.
At the moment though this also applies to Chassis as well which is the only bit that does need to be looked at a little. Simply as you say, some ships carry items.

i agree that all items should have condition, and i think that condition, rather than hitpoints, should decrease with repairs. and the rate of decay will probably need to be adjusted from its current 10%. but ultimately, the chassis should gradually decay with repeated repairs until it can no longer be fixed, rather like my automobile.

Yes, chassis actually decay pretty fast. Forty-eight hours before the end of beta, I seem to recall a ship-destruction resulting in the loss of about 50 hitpoints from the chassis (I had a total of about 1100 at the time).
It may be that as a ship goes lower in condition--you might just want to get your stuff out of it. It's only the permanent sorosuub and the tier 5 multiplayer ships that allow storage. PLUS, the multiplayer ships take a lot away from you on the ground--they're cool, but I'm not sure they're that cool.

Sweetness, I didn't play JTL the last two weeks. Pilot quests was too frustrating...

Everything takes decay, even looted parts.
PLease wait till its live befor questions like this.
Also the only ship that will not decay is the vet reward.

You can just pay maintenance and the house stays where it is.

ummm what kind of stuff are you planning on keeping in your ships anyways? tables, lamps, chairs, maybe a few fish... stuff that can easily be replaced. all you have to do is not stick anything of value in yoru multiplayer ships, except maybe the yatch... simple enough
