Thread: What to charge for RE'd items?

I'm not in the Shipwright business to become insanely rich in-game, and I've searched the forums and haven't really found an answer to my question. What prices to set, and really I sometimes wonder if I should sell them at all.

Everyones different, you ask 5 people, you'll get 5 different answers............I charge 1000 per level levels 1-3 and tack on 500......2000 per level 4-6, and 3000 per level 7-9......seems to work for me, stuff doesnt fly off the shelf, but nothing stays longer than a week or two either......plus it may be server dependent also......Shadowfire is probably one of the lowest populated servers.....my two pennies.

My current rates are exactly what they cost me to RE - in other words, 1000 for a level 1, 4000 for a level 2, 9000 for a level 3 etc. price = (lvl * lvl) * 1000. I usually wait until I can produce a good quality item before I RE them, so these prices aren't that unreasonable. I have very low sales but I don't advertise and am not located in a prime shopping district. Vendors in the high-sales areas seem to charge a bit more than this, I've seen level 5 components for 30k and level 7's for 60k.

I get a lot of questions such as "why are you charging so much?" The reason is that I buy parts at the same price that the chassis dealer will offer. Some potential customers don't understand that RE'ing eats (level) parts and returns only one. Once they get this, they are suprised I sell them for 0 profit until I also explain the source of firespray schematics

I dont charge for REing items for people, if they bring me everything.

Only condition is that I keep any fragment that comes from the RE

I'm a shipwright and a pilot, so I have a pretty good feel on what flies and what doesn't...

Everyone is right that you will see very different pricing schemes, andit's even weirder now that the economy has deflated because of the solo group nerf. Beforehand you would see people selling good lv8 RE for 400-500k. Suffice it to say you shouldn't charge that much unless it's the best part on the server.

I sell somewhere around 5-10 pieces of RE per day, and the average level part I sell is 5ish. I do not charge for component level. Period. Since the loot tables are vastly messed up for ship parts, it is extremely nonsensical to sell a level 5 booster that has worse stats than a level 2 booster for more than twice the amount.

My general rule of thumb is this:

Look at the stats of the part and decide what category it falls under: below average, average, above average, super. Without being familiar with the normal parts that pilots expect, this can be a bit difficult to manage at first. I'll give some examples at the end of the post.

Compare the stats of the part to the average stats of that part for all levels. Whichever level that part's statsfall under, multiply it by 10,000. Now add/subtract 20-40% based on what category the part is in. This is your tentative price.

Let's give some examples and askhow much would you charge?

Level 8 shield with 2400 front and back hp.

Level 3 armor with 900 hp and 2800 mass.

Level 2 booster with 1800 energy, 24 speed, & 1300 mass.

Level 4 capacitor with 41 recharge and 2800 mass.

Level 3 reactor with 13300 energy and 2600 mass.

If your answers were 80,000; 30,000; 20,000; 40,000; and 30,000, respectively, then you did not really read this post.

All of the items listed were purposefully made to be high end parts that you *will* come across if you do enough REing. If you are familiar with what pilots want, you would realize that many would pay a lot of money to get these parts. If you blindly stick to any rubric, (including the one I gave to roughly follow) then you will sell these parts very quickly and make a lot less than you should.

I sold these parts at 240,000; 56,000; 44,000; 66,000; and 61,000, respectively. Granted, if these parts had crappier stats, these prices would have been much lower and would have followed my rubric more closely, but I have made my point.

If you *really* want to price things correctly and take your shipwright profession seriously, you should become a pilot if only to understand your customers better.

I am a 3-4-4-4 Freelance pilot, and an Ace Rebel Pilot on an Alt account. I'm also a new merchant. Every item you listed in your post I have sitting in a pack already RE'd. Honestly, I never would have considered selling for those prices you listed. Not that I think you're wrong, just that I never thought people would pay those numbers, since I seem to get a lot of loot at that level.

I have several L2 capacitors with near 40 recharge and close to 1000 energy. I know those are nice, but I wondered what they might sell for. (Still bothers me that crafted components aren't better).

Depends on how greedy you are I guess. I personally would pay you 100k for one of those 1k mass 40+ recharge caps since I don't have one and could probably sell it for more on my vendor even if I weren't going to use it.

The problem is that RE can sell for a great deal of prices. It simply depends on how quickly you want your RE to sell and how well advertised/visible you are. I agree that I could easily sell my RE at a lower price, but I already have to restock my vendor everyday in order to keep it full. If I lowered prices, it wouldn't help me unless I was doing this 24/7.

Remember that people who aren't shipwrights don't see nearly as much RE, so it is worth a lot more to them than it is to you.

If its about the same - same price

and so on

I run the largest space loot vendor on Starsider. My pricing is as follows...

Level 1 through 3 - 1000 per level

Level 4 through 6 - 2000 per level

Level 7 through 10 - 3000 per level

I also have special prices for certian items that are in higher demand...

Level 8 shields - 50000 each

Level 6 engines - 40000 each

Level 4 through 6 guns - 6000 per level

Level 7 guns - 50000 each

Level 8 guns - 150000 each

Level9 guns - 100000 each

Level 10 guns - 200k-400k each

I've had my space loot shop open for only a little over 2 weeks, and so far its brought in about 25mil for me. Most of the specialty priced stuff, like level 8 shields, level 8 guns, and level 6 engines, gets snatched up real quick.

Cert Level Squared is what I charge.

I don't bother putting odd# crap up for sale, that goes back to the chassis dealer for the loss.

Uber parts don't go to the vendor either, I have more than a dozen pilots in the guild that need fitting.

Ace pilot first, msw second.

I don't charge any thing to RE bits but glady accept some low lvl junk to re, as most people seem to want to pay me something for my time.

You misunderstand...

To do an RE job for someone who brings me the stuff, I charge nothing.

The stuff I collect myself and RE into decent equipment, I charge for...
