Finally decided to actually make parts and not just RE for a change. Looked on the bazaar at chassis and to my horror you can get a very decent chassis for most ships at around 0.3 cpu. I cant farm the resources my self for this price, how in the heck does someone make money like this? Not everyone was so cheep but the mass diffrence between the 1 to 2 cpu ships and the 0.3 cpu ships was in the hundreds. Why under cut like this? BTW this is Kauri server Im talking about.

Money's in components, not so much in chassis.Though, when you're talking about a small ship like an Interceptor or A-Wing, that couple hundred masscan make a world of difference.

Interesting note about grind chassis. When the respec period was going, there was a huge demand forlow-level ships and no supply. Master SWs don't make lower tier ships because they're undercut, and the new SWs coming up didn't have to grind, they respec'd; this led to ahuge lack of ships in the economy.

buy all the cheap chassis you can. take it all in yourself. then resell it at a profit on your vendor.

sounds lame, sounds insane, sounds like a waste of credits. But when they can't go elsewhere since you have all the cheap chassis you're the one making the bucks.

easy way to look at this is cornering the market. every server has a small demand but a fairly decent supply. if you control the Supply demand no longer dictates the price you do.

Ok, here's my view on it. Right now, and i mean only right now cause i don't really know how long it's gonna last, pretty much all, no ALLthe resources are free. Yeah, you heard me right, free. With the free maintenence for every player controlled structure every mined resource is FREE. Put down some harvesters and get sh*tons of power, pull em and then put down harvesters and BAM, you have just mined all sorts of stuff for NOTHING. Put up 10, put up 50, it's all free. There's a way you can afford 0.3 cpu, hell, even 0.1 cpu is gonna be a profit. And if you charge an astounding '1' cpu that's even more profit. Not complaining about it, just pointing out how this free structures is just making crafters that base thier prices on how much it takes to mine, and all the actual miners out there are gonna have more credits than what they know to do with. And to be honest, i actually think there's gonna be some ppl whining about the structure maintenence coming back online when it does. Anyone else thought about this like i have?

yeah, but on most servers you can sell even the worst quality resources for 1 -1.5 cpu -- so if you sell any finished product for less than that you are losing money. I agree with the guy a couple posts above. Instead of getting upset when you see something at .3cpu -- just buy it - You're still gonna get customers that will pay a more reasonable price. So all the profit is yours without you needing to use resources to do it. I've ordered a bunch from a guy who sells at 0.6cpubecause the majority of the 'random' orders I get from people seeing my Master Tag, are people wanting Chassis. I also want to be able to provide everything for a customer, without selling the chassis at a loss to do taht.

I have actually thought about starting a Power Business cause It is all Profit right now. You can place 8-10 harvesters on a good spot and pull in between 100-150k a day. Even at 1 cpu that is a good steady income. My server you can not find it for 1cpu anymore though. It is higher. I just mine what I need now though.

Just don't make chassis unless requested. Pick something harder to find and make it well. When I started, noone had paint or texture kits anywhere. I made factory crates and funded my grind selling them for 10cpu. Locate in or near a high traffic area. Make sure your vendor is on the map.

I am only limited by the amount of time I want to spend crafting. Everything I make is sold before it can expire to the stockroom.

With ship components that do not decay after a certain point, quest rewards given out far superiour to the items I can make, I too also have to wonder how I stay in business.

I don't know about other servers but on Shadowfire it seems there are less people grinding shipwright. When I first became a SW if I quoted a price on a chassis of 3 cpu people acted as if I was overpricing because there was so many cheap grind chassis out there. But here lately I have been charging a minimum of 5 cpu on chassis and most of the time the price is not an issue.

I approach pricing from the standpoint of what I think my time is worth. If the market won't support the kind of prices I think are fair for my time then I simply don't make those items. As most have pointed out, components are where the money is. If you make quality components they will sell. I charge in the ballpark of 20 to 25 cpu for my components and sell as many as I can make.

I've never sold chassis. I focused on parts, worked for me and many others. Chassis are a business death-trap IMHO.

That's how I make most of my money. I make the parts at a fair price and other shipwrights buy it from me to resell on their vendors. I'll make a ton of crappy Experimental Ion Cannons and sell at 20K a piece. The go within a day.
