Thread: How would you like to be Inspired?
Some of the ideas for Shipwright that have been mentioned are:
Adding further color customization to weapon blasts
Changing engine glow colors/effects
So the question is, what are some benefits you can see as useful to you, but would not detract from you being a "whole Shipwright" if you didn't have the Inspiration?
Thanks!
Here's the original thread if you wish to post there too.
It's been asked for before i'm sure but it would be an awsome adition to the shipwright profession.

the ability to choose what the booster will look like on the ship during crafting or when loaded into the ship
also can be added to Weapons Engines etc
could be a drop down menu like with Architect where before the final product is finished there is a drop down menu that has different styles that would show up when loaded into a ship
That's a great idea! I'd love to see profession specific inspiration buffs!
The ones you mentioned are cool - I think we'd all love these:
Adding further color customization to weapon blasts (there's no further, we can't do it at all now)
Changing engine glow colors/effects
I'd also maybe like to see:
- ability to choose component appearance (weapon, engine, booster)
- ability to create a limited use schematic
- bonus to crafting/expirementation success
- an additional expirement point or two
- additional % bonus on reverse engineering items
- ability to tweak stats during reverse engineering (within reason - maybe kind of like a slice)
- chance of a random "legendary success" during crafting to create a reward-type item (whatever level part you're crafting turns into something similar to the reward parts obtained from completing pilot missions, maybe with a spiffy Siener or Incom name
)

If you are looking for something where Shipwrights are busting down the cantina doors, then here are some ideas (some of which are applicable to all crafters):
- Increased probability of success to assembly (I think we already get this).
- Increased probability of success to experimentation (I think we already get this).
- How about an experimentation point--this is a stretch, but you can bet crafters from the Galaxy will be busting down the doors to the cantinas.
- More ship styles--for example, we have some ships that have 2 and 4 styles right now--maybe more.
- Ship branding--the ability to put our "company name" or logo onto the chassis and componentswe craft, or maybe paint a squadron's logo onto a ship chassis for a customer.
- How about the ability to paint "kills" onto a ship for a customer? Of course, this would be qualified by something the pilot had accomplished.
For instance, while I do enjoy the different look of the reward and MarkIV engine on the X-Wing, I would like to be able to craft a MarkIV Engine and have it resemble the Classic look of an X-Wing.
I would like the option of choosing Style 1, Style 2 or perhaps even more styles for an outward appearance to components that have more then one look to them.
Those cosmetic looks add a level of uniqueness that is just very cool to see in SWG.
Just recently, I fully decked out a Heavy Z-95 and I was really impressed with the results. The Twin Booster, the large missile racks, the massive engine and the advanced Ion Cannon looking weapons. It's all very nifty looking, it makes me want to go out and fly that ship from time to time.
Being able to tweak the other visual effects of starship components would be very nifty as well, but not as cool as being able to alter the style of the component.
It would be nice to be able to craft Orange, Purple, Yellow and other colors and have those applied to different visual effects, like straight lines, starbursts, ringed bolts and similar.
I also want to be able to craft additional ships that were present in previous Star Wars Starfighter Sims and have those be available to all pilots.
I want to craft: (Some from X-Wing Alliance)
Authority IRD Craft
Cloakshape Fighters
Planetary Fighter
Preybird
R-41 Starchaser
Toscan Starfighter (Which uses something remarkably similar to the Y-Wing as a Pilot's Compartment...)
A wholly different style of Z-95, to show the long standing 'evolution' of this venerable design.
Other tranports different POBs.
I want to see a significant increase in the variety of available starships. I would like to see the lines blur for new designs regarding who can pilot what as well. Sure, I would like to see a few Imperial, Rebel and Neutral only designs, but it would also be nice to add a number of additional no-faction ships that anyone can pilot, given a high enough piloting skill.

So any ideas about increases in % chance of good results, extra experimentation points et al are unlikely to be used. These would instantly become requiremnets for any customer who knew what he was after.
The request was basically for fluff ideas. But for good fluff, fluff that customers will want.
Excuse me Lom, do you have any idea what you're talking about?
For starters, the current inspiration buff already provides a player with a 10% increase to XP, faction points, and crafting success (as I indicated above, I believed we already had some of the ideas that I tossed out).
Secondly, entertainers used to be highly sought out for their mind buffs. Well, the CU stripped entertainers of a lot of their value-adds. Now, they're taking away the entire notion of battle fatigue as well. These folks are looking for ideas that would rejuvenate this class of players; otherwise, we have to start wondering what the value of becoming an entertainer will be to the community.
Finally, in my opinion they are looking for more than just fluff. In fact, I would go as far as to say that if entertainers aren't able to provide services beyond "fluff", the entire class should just be killed. Thus, I think the idea of different inspiration buffs is a good idea. Furthermore, I think everyone should participate and throw their ideas out on the table, no matter how bazaar. If the dev community likes a particular idea, but felt the original presentation is overpowered, they'll figure out how to tone it down--this is part of their job.
A few more parting words, people should be thinking about this with a "real life twist". I have been an engineer for nearly 23 years now, and I will tell you that might best ideas were inspired. Thus, put yourself in the shoes of a shipwright and think about what kind of ideas you would be inspired to have in the process of building a ship. Personally, I think most ideas would translate into a little boost to something here or a little boost to something there, and hence the idea of giving us an extra experimentation point when under the influence of an inspiration buff. Some shipwrights might not think this would be enough to care about; however, let me tell you that an extra experimentation point is worth exactly 2 points additional points to the speed of engine, and NOONE can tell me that's trivial.

I was going to post something very very similar to this myself. Introducing whole new schematics would probably be outside of the scope of what is being discussed for these buffs (though there are some really great choices there, I always loved the look of the Cloakshape fighters in particular), but providing appearance customizations to ships within the already existing art should hopefully prove more easily implemented.
I bill myself as a 'starship restoration service' on Intrepid and have taken orders for parts that a) have good stats and b) fit the look that the customer is shooting for. I have a Heavy Z-95 that is almost identical in appearance to the one Rols describes above, and it draws a lot of attention. Our customers would, I think, love to be able to take their ship to us for customizations that make their ships look unique and impressive. Think of it as Overhaulin' in Space. To be able to have an Image Designer style interface where both the customer and the shipwright can see the ship being worked on, and make art changes to engines, weapons, body styles, etc. would be a really great buff to get. Altering the weapon firing effects and colors would be great too.

This page has a great model made by someone who read the Han Solo at Star's End books a bit too closely. It is a serious piece of minor EU errata, but very cool none the less.
