Thread: Certification Level != Reverse Eng. Level?

Hi

Just found following reactor on the bazaar:

As you see it says "Certification Level: 4" but "Reverse Engineering Level: 5"...

Now I wonder...

a) Can I even RE it?

if yes:

b) Do I need 3otehr (4 total) Level 4reactors? (means the Certif. Level is important)

c) Do I need 4 other (5 total) Level 5 reactors? (means the RE level is important and counts)

I would expect that the Cert level doesn't matter. Four more REL 5 Reactors should do it.
I /bugged this in beta as a possible problem.

ya i have came across many items like that. even see the variance of a RE level =6 and Cert Level = 2

Maybe its the Devs way of giving us parts with low mass.

If you can stick that in when you RE a level 6 engine you'll get the mass off that one.

I think we've been told that it's the RE level that mattes, not the component level. I have no idea, though.

Well since the reactor i like to RE is pretty good i'd rather not experiment... *sighs*

Anyone tried it and knows a definite answer?

Hmm i think how it may work is it takes the number of items that corresponds to the highest RE level of the items you want to RE....

so if you took your RE:5 component you can reverse engineer it with 4 other RE:5 or lowers... But if you threw a RE:6 in there as one of your extra 4, you'd then need another one to make it 6...

Another question, say you have an RE:2 engine, can you throw 8 RE:2 engines in the tool and get a component with the best of stats from 8 different items? or is it max of 2?

Uh lower?

I though it has to be the exact same level?

Otherwise you'd just kick in a level 1 item and get 500 mass...

And i'm pretty sure i read somewhere that its 1:1... if you need 2 then it only takes 2 not more.

Less grinding, more sleep, makes shipwright correspondent less stupid.

ok nevermind, yeah dunno what i was trying to say exactly, guess i was still unsure whether you could RE more items than the RE level indicates, guess not

Yep, has to be the same RE level on each item in a batch.

I've had alot of these mismatched cert level / RE level items, including a number of cert 10 droid interfaces with something like level 2 or 3 RE... I combine those by making sure the *lowest* item is put into the tool first (which determines the cert, model and name of the resulting combination), so you get a more flexible cert level but better stats from the final. In theory, anyway droid interfaces are weird. But if you read patch notes, they've mentioned fixing some items like this already. I'd assume they're lingering bugs.

Ok, just theoretically asked... what happens if i put a RE level 5 thing into the Analysis tool and then try to add a level 8 or level 3 one?

does it add and both go boom, or does it give an error message?
