Thread: A little story about no factory support

We got 3 shipwrights in my guild. 2 Master Shipwrights, and 1 Chassis IV shipwright. Our Chassis IV shipwright handles all the vendor and merchant side. Every day or so we get a little email with what the vendor needs then we craft it and offer it up. It gives me time to put my own spin on the names of the items I craft. For example "Darec Ind. "Enraged Rancor" Mark IV Fusion Reactor" and so on. Because of this I am starting to get a little popular. I had one guy ask me for an Ancient Rancor Reactor.

Anyway on the main jux of the story.

The other master shipwright has left the game. Gone to EQ2. Now I am the only master shipwright in the guild. It all falls on me. Then our Chassis IV shipwright had to work and travel for a week so our vendor hasnt been stocked in that time. Yesterday I get a GMail from him with the new order for the vendor. Over 370 items. And all on my shoulders.

Of course reply 1 is: Get him to master also right? We are trying. Actually have him and someone else going up master. But thanks to even grinding resources being 10cpu its slow.

Reply 2 is: Why didnt I watch the vendor while he was gone and craft as each day passed. Thanks to the bug that doesnt allow me to see vendor inventories I am stuck.

So thanks to no factory support my next two gaming days will be filled with mass crafting of generic items. I say generic as I dont have time to use subcomponents or to name the item. All of which I could do if I had real factory support. Even limited.

Raise your prices.

If things are flying off of your vendors faster than you can craft them, then you are not charging enough. Supply and demand are at work here, the basis of any economy. Simply up the prices to where yourcrafting speedreasonably meets how fast people are buying things, it might take a little while to figure out a happy medium, but in the end, you won't get burned out, and you won't have people complaining there's nothing on your vendor.

Good thought there Tyranus. Another idea is subcontract out to other Shipwrights. They can always use the extra cash just either pay them a set amount with you guys supplying the resources or allow them to charge you guys the price that they see fair so u can bboth make a profit on the items.

Raise our prices? Yah someone said that before. We have raised our prices so high, I get insulted by alot of players as being a price gouger. We are up to 5 times what most shipwrights charge. I think our prices are raised as high as we can do it and not feel guilty.

Every shipwright I have talked too on kauri has either quit or is too busy trying to keep themselves above water.

Limited factory support would help here. Schematic use of no more then 10 items would be a godsend right now. I could dump a schematic in each of the 7 factories then craft whats left. Probably be done in just a few hours. But thanks to the "Run newbie! Its a veteran!" players I am stuck.

Cant do factory support even limited, as some people think factories are some leet loot that only drops off a specific named NPC during a full moon the second wednesday past penticost during leap year. At least this is my observation as most people think new players cant get a factory or 7.

Your playing a crafter and complaining because you have to craft. The one thing they did right is eliminate "mules" from shipwright. If you want to play a crafter, and make the money they do, you have to actually do it by crafting, not just by making schematics for 15min a day and then spending another 30-60 on resources andvendors. Too many people want SW to be like AS or WS where you can invest a small amount of time to make huge amounts of money and then go playyour "main."

Lol thats funny about the factory. What all are you making or behind on. Send me a message here maybe I can assist you. I am caught up on the server at the moment. Give me details of how you thought about doing this or send the customer to me or something like that to assist you if I am able to.

I do craft. I love to craft ship parts. I love sitting there and trying to make the best subcomponent, then experimenting the final product and slapping my name on it along with these names I think are awesome. But I cant do that now. Its all just grinding now.

Hit the next toolbar button with the tool.

Hit the enter key.

Fill the resource slots.

Hit the enter key.

Hit the enter key.

Click the bar for experimenting.

Hit the enter key.

Click the bar for expermenting.

Hit the enter key.

Hit the enter key.

Rince and repeat. 369 more times.

That isnt crafting. Its mindless grinding.

Even if I had limited support I would still be crafting a couple of hours a day. You people really need to learn the term compromise. I am not asking for full support. Heck none of the pro factory people are. But some of you are so blind and single minded you refuse to meet even one qaurter of the way with the quarter on your side of the 50 yard line. Its all or nothing huh?

I do see where you are coming from Tyranus. I for one do not care for the factory support, due to the fact I am not in ypur situation. Howevere if I place myself in your situation I totally understand where you are coming from and a compromise of 10 components in a factory would be very sufficient. If and When I get bigger in the industry I am sure I myself will be asking what you are as well. Just at this time I am not so I voted I did not care for factory support. So I do apologize for that and maybe just maybe one day I will EAT my own words. I hope that day comes when I am slammed like you are lol. I may have to move into a well known City or something for that though!

Let the whiners whine. I bet those same people accusing you of price gouging are the same people coming back time and again, finding your vendors understocked. Simply explain to them that you have to keep your prices up to be able to have a stocked vendor. As long as your prices aren't so high as to totally stop your sales(or slow them to a crawl), you'll be fine. There will always be those complainers who think that you're price gouging, even at 1cpu.

If factory support is implemented, it will be a while. In the meantime, the part of the Supply/Demand equation that you have control over is pricing.

Here is the real problem for me. I started trying to come up with a name for my parts. I first hit on Rancor Ind. since I love dathomir so much. Then I remembered in one novel there was mention of a shipyards on dathomir long ago. So I changed my mind to Dathomir Shipyards. And used a name of a mob in quotes, followed by the main part name. The higher the level the higher the mob. But I ran out of mobs quick with the various parts. So I changed it to Darec Ind. With mobs all over the galaxy as my part names.

I use Rancors for reactor names. I can picture a rancor banging on a drum and a voice saying "They keep going and going and going...."

I use Gurrecks for engine names. They are speedy little cats.

And I use Grauls for armor names. They used to be uber tough mobs at one time.

Krayts for shields, Voritors for capacitors, etc.

I like doing this. Its adds alot of roleplaying spice to me.

So how about other compromises.

A naming tool. Something that we can put alot of parts we crafted into and type in the name we want on those parts. That is one main reason I want a factory. Its time consuming to craft a whole bunch and have to type each name. Even with the chat copy/paste its still another added step.

Armor is one big number I have to craft. We are Missle Monkeys and Armor Apes. Let us make armor in factories. I would settle for that too. Give me more time to craft the other parts.

Ty... I think you're missing the intention behind no factory support for shipwrights.

I think that SOE intended there to be a LOT of shipwrights. This game has been out for coming up on a year and a half, and there are just a lot of crafters dispersed around the servers.

While I do agree that it would be NICE to be able to make our components in factories... I think the best suggestion I can give you is just handle it. Fact is, you cannot make shipwright components in factories. So you'll have to find a different solution. Subcontracting is good, but you might also consider simply slowing down on your sales.

Also, you might try getting into the Reverse Engineering area. I have about 8 people who offer me their looted goodies constantly, and this lets me stock my vendor amply.

The other thing I can suggest... to help save some time... is to concentrate on one type of component each night. Like tonight, log in and do a run of the 2 subcomponents for Armor. Then sit and craft a bunch of armor modules. Try to make 50 or more, then call it a night. Then tomorrow, make Boosters, and so on down the list. By the time you get back around to your Armor day, check your vendor to see how your stock is, and make more accordingly. This may help ya out a lot.

Also for the names, use cut/copy/paste(you may have to bind the keys in the keymap). This will save you from having to type each name in manually.
