Thread: Why would anyone use level 4 parts

When I learned equipment 2 I thought that would make me elligible to use level 4 parts. The I foundout it made me elligible to use level 5 parts too. I looked at the skills for pilot and the same thing happens to level 6 and 7 parts, and 2 and 3 parts (only I wasn't aware of it at the time), and then again with level 9 and 10 parts.

Why would anyone use parts from level 2, 4, 6, or 9?

I know you have to be careful of your ships total mass, but other than mass is there any benefit to using these lower level parts when you learn a higher level at the same time? I don't get it. What's the purpose of level 2, 4, 6, and 9 parts?

The purpose is in the stats. A Level 4 weapon (especially one that's been RE'd) may carry the same punch as a level 5 weapon, with less mass and reactor drain.

Many even-numbered RE'd items have very nice stats, far in excess of odd-numbered and crafted items, and like you said, there's the mass issue. I use a lot of level 2, 4, and 6 stuff in lighter ships especially.

but overall in theory higher level parts should be better but with higher mass, right? Isn't that the point of the levels?

I have level 2 capacitors that outpreform, both recharge and capacity, L9 capacitors, both crafted and looted.

Because sometimes you just can't fit alevel 5 component on your chassis due to the mass, even after RE'ing. That's where that RE'd level 4 comes in handy.

Also, look closely at each part you loot. Sometimes you get a part that has a RE level different than its cert level. Such as a lvl 6 component with a RE level of 4. That means you can mix thelvl 6 stats with lvl 4 mass and reactor drain.

RE level is the "real" level, the cert level is just like any other stat, it can be average (same as RE level) above average/exceptional (lower cert level than RE level) or below average (higher cert level than RE level). A cert level 6 RE level 4 won't have level 6 stats, it will have level 4 stats. Personally I have a RE'd capacitor, 40+k mass, almost 60 regen, cert level 5, because I put a cert level 5/RE level 10 cap as the first one in the tool, definitely didn't have anywhere near L5 stats for mass, tho if I recall it had rather poor stats for regen and capacity, probably to makeup for the "exceptional" cert level.

Two words.

Lower mass.

In theory higher-level parts should be better than lower-level in every way but mass, but in current practice, even-numbered capacitors and engines are way better than odd-numbered, and boosters sometimes are. If this is intentional on the dev parts, I don't really have any idea why.

I'm sitting on the components to make the following L4 cap:

283.6 hp/armor
684.6 drain
2964.8 mass
1203 energy
43.98 (hopefully 44.0) regen

-----

For an L5 weapon:

369.5 armor/hp
1875.5 drain
5172 mass
1290.3-1796.7 damage
.697 VS - .698 VA
19.68 EPS
.312 refire

Well yes, but bigger isn't always better. A Level 5 reactor may be able to punch out 16k energy or more, but if all you need is 11k, why stick that heavy thing in your ship?

I'm new to the JtL world (But I've been playing SWG over a year), and my theory is that Shipwrights build and equip ships with the best equipment available, regardless if I fabricate it or RE it. If I can stick a L4 capacitor with a 45 recharge rate and less than 500 mass into a chassis, I can use the l mass and reactor drain savings to stick on other components that may weigh more but provide better protection (shields and armor) better offense, faster computer commands, or a better engine, booster, etc.

Try not to get lost in what the level says, focus on what the component can actually do

Nice cap...mine should turnout close to the same for mass and energy, but about 1280 on capacity, and 41-ish on recharge.

My 40.1/989 works great with two level 10 guns in my oppressor.

I found a Level 1 DXR reactor that REed to 1257.1 mass and 14032.6 regen

Perfect cap for any TIE
