Thread: Some news from the stratics chat(UPDATED for August Chat)
Here are a few questions and answers from the August 24th HOC SWG chat
Brannoc: *Terros* Hi i was wondering if in the expansion you are going to add new ships?
Shadowbrak: There will be new ships coming, but not all of the features are ready to be announced yet.
Brannoc: *Obten* Is making the lambda shuttle a player-flyable ship included in the upcoming expansion/publishes?
Tiggs: Not for this particular expansion, but it is a very powerful iconic ship for the game.
Brannoc: *Janar* Is there any chance that the new expansion will give us more datapad space for vehicles the way that RotW did for Starships?
Rogue_5: You will be very excited when you hear our plans for that, so stay tuned it will be announced soon.
Brannoc: *Just_Bri_Thanks* What will the expansion bring to the table for the non-combat and non-crafter proffessions?
SpaceRancor: *Just_Bri_Thanks* The primary focus for the expansion will be for combat classes. That being said, without going into any specifics, there will be a few surprises in store.
Brannoc: *Lornos* Will this new planet be one you can use a shuttleport to get to or will you have to enter space first?
SpaceRancor: *Lornos* Mustafar will not have a space zone and can only be reached via a shuttle.

Wonder how many people it will take to run a Y-8 effectively ..
I need to find a guild, been playing since day one and never been in one, heh.
Any ideas where they are going to put the turrets and the access points?
SWG is praised amoung many for its complex and dynamic crafting professions but hammered for whats happen to it since CU. I have a toon thats MBH/ Rebel Ace and a toon thats MDE/MSW and I'm constintaly frustrated that SW has been screwed since day one. I give high praise to those who upped the caps and engines for us albiet still lower production than loot as they are.
I think that most crafters when hearing about a crafting profession revamp have bad flashbacks to the promised Combat Revamp and how that took FOREVER to impliment. When it did they were given something almost completely different to work with.
There was a reason that SWG did so well in the past. Its the best promise for a game. People saw that in the original product. We waited for tweeks to balance everything not a completely different system. Everytime I hear that it couldnt be tweaked I feel like the effort was given up. Instead there being a thought to completely clean the slate and start over.
I hope this isnt the case with Crafting. With that it will be a new game in its entirety. And no one here wants that.

Among other things, here are some interesting bits from the chat found on stratics
Darth_Platypus - I think you'll agree that two more turret emplacements on the front of the ship will make it a more formidable mining vessel...
As mining is by-and-large a solitary occupation, more turrets (presumably requiring more crew) on the Y-8 actually make it less useful for mining (though, as pointed out above, it may becomethe mostformidable warship in the game).
Pilot-operated hardpoints would be better... but personally I'd just as soon have a single-player lightcargo design instead. There's nothing compelling about the Y-8 that makes me want to run out and get one.
But I've been on the sidelines for a long time. Are there mining guilds out there who are loving this thing?

I remember of those testing it in beta, there were a lot of requests for additional turrets. Now they are putting them in it seems. There are plenty of ships out there for solo mining. This one is a special multi-player mining ship. Whatever crew gets it together and mines to the full future potential of this ship, I doubt will think it is less usefull.
Then by all means, add turrets. It's no skin off my back. It just strikes me as odd that the ultimate quest reward for space miners is a ship geared towards the rare and elusive mining team rather than something that can be utilized to full potential by a soloist (and wouldn't five or sixindividual ships be more flexible and efficient than a single ship with multiple crewmen anyway?).
What would interest me would be something like a sensor array that allows a prospector to use the Artisan survey skill to increase mining efficiency or locate smaller, dynamically-occuring asteroids. The fact that Surveying is totally absented from a mining game system completely mystifies me. A skilled Surveyor should be flying rings around some moonlighting pilot.
I might have read this suggestion somewhere else, but the best idea I can think of is adding the ability for the mining ship to tractor in the medium chunks - this would give the Y-8 an ability no other ship could have, and grant a yield and mining rate that would make using the ship worthwhile. Even with more turrets, I still think individual ships would be more effective - the small chunks tend to scatter about at odd angles and rather quickly at that - the gunners would have a tough time.
the other thing that worries me about making the Y-8 bristle with turrets is that it could become the best combat POB ship - it already has more possible firepower than the YT1300, Nova, or Decimator thanks to its forward firing hardpoint. I want to see POB ships become worthwhile and effective in combat, but it wouldn't make sense for that ship to be the Y-8.
