Here are a few questions and answers from the August 24th HOC SWG chat

Brannoc: *Terros* Hi i was wondering if in the expansion you are going to add new ships?

Shadowbrak: There will be new ships coming, but not all of the features are ready to be announced yet.

Brannoc: *Obten* Is making the lambda shuttle a player-flyable ship included in the upcoming expansion/publishes?

Tiggs: Not for this particular expansion, but it is a very powerful iconic ship for the game.

Brannoc: *Janar* Is there any chance that the new expansion will give us more datapad space for vehicles the way that RotW did for Starships?

Rogue_5: You will be very excited when you hear our plans for that, so stay tuned it will be announced soon.

Brannoc: *Just_Bri_Thanks* What will the expansion bring to the table for the non-combat and non-crafter proffessions?

SpaceRancor: *Just_Bri_Thanks* The primary focus for the expansion will be for combat classes. That being said, without going into any specifics, there will be a few surprises in store.

Brannoc: *Lornos* Will this new planet be one you can use a shuttleport to get to or will you have to enter space first?

SpaceRancor: *Lornos* Mustafar will not have a space zone and can only be reached via a shuttle.

Among other things, here are some interesting bits from the chat found on stratics

Brekkee - *yivvits* Another for DP - When can we expect the stat calculation problems on the new elite ship parts to be fixed so they are actually worth crafting?

Darth_Platypus - I'm aware of the problem, hoping to have a fix for this soon.

Brekkee - *Reek* The Y8 mining ship is simply not effective at all as a mining vessel. Are there any plans to improve it?

Darth_Platypus - Oh yes, there are plans to improve it!

Darth_Platypus - I think you'll agree that two more turret emplacements on the front of the ship will make it a more formidable mining vessel...

Brekkee - *yivvits* DP says the new ships are zippy and fun to fly, and man are they ever! But that is the problem. They outfly all the other ships that us shipwrights make. Is there any possibility that the existing ships could be modified to compete with these?

Darth_Platypus - Well, I would always rather buff things up than nerf them...

Darth_Platypus - Ship balance is a tough call to make, but I will look at the existing ship balance scheme very carefully and see if the new ships need to be brought in line, or if the old ships need a facelift...

Wonder how many people it will take to run a Y-8 effectively ..

I need to find a guild, been playing since day one and never been in one, heh.

I'm only speculating- (and if you read this DP, please correct me if I'm wrong), butDarth's replies sounded almost as ifhewasn'taware of thevast imbalance between the RotW reward ships and almost everything we as shipwrights can make. I hope that isn't the case. Regardless, I thank him for answering my questions!! (oh, and he deserves a big thanks for fixing engines and caps for us as well!)

In my opinion, the Y-8 will need at least 3 players to mine effectively. However, if would be wise to put someone at ops, at the very least to watch and control shield energy when attacked.

Are two more turrets really going to make the ship that more effective? Certainly not for solo. Make a hell of a warship though

Any ideas where they are going to put the turrets and the access points?

What really worries me is what DP said about future schematics. Again, it sounds like all new schematics will be loot drop which means crafters are fully relient on combat again.

I hope i am totally wrong but i keep feeling that the devs are way to combat oriented. Even DP in a way. It wasn't till we complained enough that things have gotten looked at an changed. The bugs only hurt us, not pilots or combatants really, but us. Sorry, but my faith has greatly wained in the last 2 weeks, before, i was a dev supporter. Now, i don't know what to belive nor sure if i want to even bother trying to belive.

Yeah, the new ships are great, but why is the crafting side being always put in left field? Only when something goes wrong do they say, Oh, what are you doing over there?

I urge everyone to check out all the latest dev interviews since the CU and ROTW launched. I've found evidence in there of many nods to the crafters coming in the future. I've read them state they understand the crafting community in swg is very important. We've seen some pretty serious dev attention in this forum and I think we can all expect a great deal of improvement to crafting in the future.

Since the storm of CU I ventured over to Lord of the Rings online's forums. This game isnt coming out for maybe a year so its cool to see what they have in store. ONe of the major issues is crafting. A lot of the people that came from SWG and the people that arent have voiced how important player crafting is and the problems that have been faced with it. Especialy at SWG.

SWG is praised amoung many for its complex and dynamic crafting professions but hammered for whats happen to it since CU. I have a toon thats MBH/ Rebel Ace and a toon thats MDE/MSW and I'm constintaly frustrated that SW has been screwed since day one. I give high praise to those who upped the caps and engines for us albiet still lower production than loot as they are.

I think that most crafters when hearing about a crafting profession revamp have bad flashbacks to the promised Combat Revamp and how that took FOREVER to impliment. When it did they were given something almost completely different to work with.

There was a reason that SWG did so well in the past. Its the best promise for a game. People saw that in the original product. We waited for tweeks to balance everything not a completely different system. Everytime I hear that it couldnt be tweaked I feel like the effort was given up. Instead there being a thought to completely clean the slate and start over.

I hope this isnt the case with Crafting. With that it will be a new game in its entirety. And no one here wants that.

As mining is by-and-large a solitary occupation, more turrets (presumably requiring more crew) on the Y-8 actually make it less useful for mining (though, as pointed out above, it may becomethe mostformidable warship in the game).

Pilot-operated hardpoints would be better... but personally I'd just as soon have a single-player lightcargo design instead. There's nothing compelling about the Y-8 that makes me want to run out and get one.

But I've been on the sidelines for a long time. Are there mining guilds out there who are loving this thing?

I remember of those testing it in beta, there were a lot of requests for additional turrets. Now they are putting them in it seems. There are plenty of ships out there for solo mining. This one is a special multi-player mining ship. Whatever crew gets it together and mines to the full future potential of this ship, I doubt will think it is less usefull.

Then by all means, add turrets. It's no skin off my back. It just strikes me as odd that the ultimate quest reward for space miners is a ship geared towards the rare and elusive mining team rather than something that can be utilized to full potential by a soloist (and wouldn't five or sixindividual ships be more flexible and efficient than a single ship with multiple crewmen anyway?).

What would interest me would be something like a sensor array that allows a prospector to use the Artisan survey skill to increase mining efficiency or locate smaller, dynamically-occuring asteroids. The fact that Surveying is totally absented from a mining game system completely mystifies me. A skilled Surveyor should be flying rings around some moonlighting pilot.

I might have read this suggestion somewhere else, but the best idea I can think of is adding the ability for the mining ship to tractor in the medium chunks - this would give the Y-8 an ability no other ship could have, and grant a yield and mining rate that would make using the ship worthwhile. Even with more turrets, I still think individual ships would be more effective - the small chunks tend to scatter about at odd angles and rather quickly at that - the gunners would have a tough time.

the other thing that worries me about making the Y-8 bristle with turrets is that it could become the best combat POB ship - it already has more possible firepower than the YT1300, Nova, or Decimator thanks to its forward firing hardpoint. I want to see POB ships become worthwhile and effective in combat, but it wouldn't make sense for that ship to be the Y-8.
