Thread: Some news from the stratics chat(UPDATED for August Chat)

I haven't flown a Y-8 a whole lot, but in my experience it handles fairly closely to my Decimator. I think my wife deeded hers to make room for that Firespray, though, so I think I'll have to get around to finishing the quest and do a bit more testing.
The biggest issue with the Y-8 as a combat vessel is that it is HUGE. POB ships are already at a serious disadvantage in most situations because of their size. And the Y-8 has a hit box the size of Godzilla.
I don't think it is as simple as that. I think they are still working on a solid fix for the asteroid resources. I hear you though, I hate advising customers to wait on those components. Until they get it fixed, I sure appreciate that they are resolving other bugs along the way.

Its stuff like this that really upset me, clearly they have no list of priorities for shipwright. Yea, the renaming RE items bug is old, but more important than fixing asteroid resources? Guess another month of warding people away from asteroidbased components...

I might have read this suggestion somewhere else, but the best idea I can think of is adding the ability for the mining ship to tractor in the medium chunks - this would give the Y-8 an ability no other ship could have, and grant a yield and mining rate that would make using the ship worthwhile. Even with more turrets, I still think individual ships would be more effective - the small chunks tend to scatter about at odd angles and rather quickly at that - the gunners would have a tough time.
the other thing that worries me about making the Y-8 bristle with turrets is that it could become the best combat POB ship - it already has more possible firepower than the YT1300, Nova, or Decimator thanks to its forward firing hardpoint. I want to see POB ships become worthwhile and effective in combat, but it wouldn't make sense for that ship to be the Y-8.
I agree with many of you that Space Mining has the potential for a lot of additional content. The point of the Y-8 becoming the tops of POB ship combat bring to mind a question maybe some of you can answer. How does this ship handle when compared to a YT-1300 or decimator?
Another thing to keep in mind is that additions to one part of the game such as the Y-8 doesn't mean that additions to the other POB ships will never happen. I'm a huge fan of POB ships with fighter escorts engaging in some serious battles and I'm pretty sure the devs are too.

- You are now given another chance to name a reverse engineered component after attempting to use a reserved name.
- Fixed issue that prevented renaming of a reverse engineered component when using the last charge of a Component Analysis Tool.
- Unused engine acceleration and deceleration stats of 0.0 are no longer shown in the reverse engineering results dialog.

It was terribly short-sighted of them not to build a "Fix Bugs Instantly" button into the software.

30k+ cargo hold on the Y-8. I don't mine currently but would be more then willing to help outmy guilds sw with the new turrets in place.

Darth_Platypus - I think you'll agree that two more turret emplacements on the front of the ship will make it a more formidable mining vessel...
As mining is by-and-large a solitary occupation, more turrets (presumably requiring more crew) on the Y-8 actually make it less useful for mining (though, as pointed out above, it may becomethe mostformidable warship in the game).
Pilot-operated hardpoints would be better... but personally I'd just as soon have a single-player lightcargo design instead. There's nothing compelling about the Y-8 that makes me want to run out and get one.
But I've been on the sidelines for a long time. Are there mining guilds out there who are loving this thing?
The only problem I see with group mining is that space mining can get pretty boring after a while and it may be hard to get people commited to doing it on a regular basis. I would likethe Y-8 to be flexible enough to operate solo in a pinch, while allowing it to perform optimally with as a POB mining ship. A difficult balance to strike, but I would hate to have a ship like that and not be able to use it because no one I know is online when I need a crew.
Now, if they gave us the ability to shanghai newbs of the streets of Mos Eisley and press them into service on our space miner.... ![]()

The turrets on the Y-8 should be for defense only ... not even part of the mining process. The Y-8 "should" be more vunerable to attack... If you want to add content for grouping rather make it bringing escort fighters not a larger crew.AND honestly ... how often are you going to be able to talk 4 buddys into space [if they add the 2 turrets] to go shoot rocks? I can see it now...Possible crew shouts "We did this yesterday!! Whats in it for us?"Joe shipwright "Come on guys i promise you .... well I know there isnt any experience or loot. Well I'm a shipwright so I could make your POB components for free... oh ya did that yesterday. Its thrilling... ok so its not. Wait i'll pay you!! Come BACK!! PLEASE!"I cant HIRE pilots to space mine at 50cpu... and you think I can find 4 players to man the guns?
You need to find some good people to enter into a PA with.
My PA will regularly drop things to help one another out. We regularly take trips up in a POB together and whack some baddies. Once the whole deal with the Y-8 is fixed, we are going to head up and mine like heck. Mostly so that we can all fly around in High Mass Z-95s and then outfit our primary POB vessel with the higher end equipment, once they get those issues worked out better.
The content for grouping is all there, you just need to find the right people to group with.

Brekkee - *yivvits* Another for DP - When can we expect the stat calculation problems on the new elite ship parts to be fixed so they are actually worth crafting?
Darth_Platypus - I'm aware of the problem, hoping to have a fix for this soon.
Brekkee - *Reek* The Y8 mining ship is simply not effective at all as a mining vessel. Are there any plans to improve it?
Darth_Platypus - Oh yes, there are plans to improve it!
Darth_Platypus - I think you'll agree that two more turret emplacements on the front of the ship will make it a more formidable mining vessel...
Can we get an official update on either of these items? I hope they fix these two issues before the next expansion is out - I'm not holding my breath. It would speak volumes about their so called priorities if bugs with the last exp are not fixed before the next is released. Sad, isn't it.
