I suppose I shouldn't have expected better, but given the high degree of professionalism in the Architect forum (in general) I had hopes for the Shipwright's forum.
Back in August in the Architect's forum we had a wave of one-star idiots come through. I wrote this up then and I think it is still valid. I'd encourage you to adjust your settings so some half-wit doesn't deny you the ability to read posts and judge them for yourself.
====================
The forum software has a "rating" system where you can rate a post from 1-5 stars. I'm not sure how everyone else uses it, but I typically rate posts on their relavance and value to the forum at hand. So if someone posts a well-thought out post I might give it 5 stars. OTOH if someone posts something that is clearly out of place here, I might 1 star it before I report them.
What people may not realize is that the stars can also control which posts you even *see* in the table of contents. The board default is to "hide" any post that has a 1-star rating. Obviously this is open to abuse. For example, I've seen people on the trade forums get a 1 star rating, which effectively "hides" that auction from most people's attention, thereby allowing one guy who posted a bid to have that bid undisturbed.
The reason I bring this up in the Architect forum is that, in spite of our track record of having helpful and civil discussions, we seen to have some folks that are issuing 1-stars. I don't know if they are targeting specific people or just using it as a "I don't agree with this idea" vehicle.
For example, a recent thread about changing the resource requirements and/or XP of the gungan statues was 1-starred almost immediately, before many replies had rolled in. Given that SOE has their default set this way, that would remove that thread from discussion.
If you are interested in being able to read and contribute to all of the ideas here, regardless of other people's opinion (or malice), then you can change your preferences so you can see ALL posts. The instructions to do that are in my sig.

Not to mention someone who decided it would be fun to slander someone.

Given that my message got a one star, I think that is a forelorn hope.
Seriously folks - Shipwright is a brand new profession in essentially a brand new game. It has some similarities and differences with other elite crafting professions. We are *ALL* new to this (because the Beta didn't attempt to address the economic or on-going business issues). Everyone is coming here from a different perspective. I suggest that those different perspectives are *good* - we want to look at things from some different angles. I don't think that anyone has all of the answers here.
Let's compare notes. Let's discuss things. But flaming other people, calling them names, one-staring their posts because you disagree with them is petty and gets in the way of learning. If you really want to be a serious Shipwright, then you - along with all the rest of us - has a lot to learn. Let's cooperate in that learning process.

im afriad your message will fall on deaf ears. on a positive note often times 1 star bandits get tired of tryignt o keep everyone down. my suggestion folks is to first disable the stupid rating system in your prefs, then work to keep the threads that arte relvant aboive 1 star. if its 2 stars, u can see it.

And now for encouraging people to slow down and actually *listen* to the other guy, and to set up their preferences so they can see all of the dialog, someone has decided to one-star me. Glad to know that they are consistant in their view of honest dialog.
In any case, I'm excited to be part of this new profession - I think that we have a lot to learn both about the *technical* nature and the business nature of the shipwright business. Because I also think that the devs will be "tuning" some of the numbers, I think that we all will have a role in shaping the evolution of the ships and the profession. I plan on having lots of fun here!

THANK YOU!
I was unaware of this facet of our boards and have changed my preferences accordingly.

Thanks, Zen. I didn't realize they were hiding 1 star posts by default, but I don't understand the instructions in your signature.
Setting the Rating Style to None removes my ability to rate posts. Setting the Rating Quality Filter to 1 would seem to be what you want to do to show all posts regardless of rating. Maybe they changed these options around recently.

We've also got a lovely visitor running around who thinks Shipwrights should sell for .5 CPU and the like, and seems to be letting the one-stars and insults and negativity fly. looks like we get to be the new "unreasonably greedy" kids on the block. Oh, joy.

It really seems like you are worried about how people are rating your posts... Maybe you should think about why you keep getting one stared instead of peoples preferences.
