Capacitors, Boosters, and Engines follow a pattern where even RE level is very good, but odd level is horrible. Odds are, your observation is based on these 3 types of equipment. You will find level 7 guns are better then level 6 normally.

this has probably been asked before, but i couldn't find it in the stickies or with a cursory search... I have been doing a fair bit of RE'ing of components and after a few hundred of pieces, it seems that lvl 6 loot has stats that are a good peg ABOVE lvl 7 :

ex : i consistently RE lvl 6 capacitors with a recharge rate of 46 vs 39 on average for their lvl 7 counterpart.

i would understand this as an isolated incident, but i have now seen the same on dozens of components over hundreds of loot items. what gives ? is the loot table busted ?

so i wasn't going senile : the loot formula is busted for those components then.

Take a look at this post from the Pilot forum. Usually level 6 loot is better than level 7, but not always.

Don't ask me where I got it or what the name was, but I have ONE RE'ed level 6 gun(flying uncounted hourssince launch)that somehow compares to level 7 guns in terms of damage(2.6k-2.8k max area); and it's not a mismatched RE/Certification level, because the mass is ALSO in the level 6 range.

I never even noticed it back when I RE'ed it. It's a freak loot, like one of those 20k-50k reactors(except I've actually looted multiples of those, heh).

You have any more idea what they were named or looted off of than I do?

the name doesnt effect the stats, but the best place to loot good level 6 stuff is the evil raider tyrant spawn in the endor system near the red sin chimarea hyper point

"the name doesnt effect the stats"

Hey, it does in SOME cases,

Besides the Reward components, there's a level 10 booster called:

Sienar Design Systems "B7 Experimental" Elite Booster

Out of the 13 of them that I have, all stats are the same except for a very tiny variance in Armor/Hitpoints and Mass.

Armor/Hitpoints: 825.X

Reactor Energy Drain: 600.0

Mass: 45113.7-45126.1

Booster Energy: 2196.1

Booster Recharge Rate: 54.9

Booster Energy Consumption Rate: 219.6

Acceleration: 43.9

Top Booster Speed: 34.2

Has anyone noticed this on any other component besides Rewards?

The name most definitely DOES effect the stats.

For example - Gallant A1 caps are the LIGHTEST L4 caps out there. Just last night I found one unREed with 267x mass. Paired with my 554.x drain, 1149 energy, and 42.7 regen, that's quite a nice cap for a light or heavy fighter.

So yes, names DO make a difference.

The gun you're looking for is the Level 6 Scorcher 3. I believe the "manufacturer" is Hoersch-Kessel. Max damage is close to 2700. After you RE it, it should exceed 95% of all Level 7 guns in its damage range.

***HOWEVER*** Your refire rate will never be as good (i.e., 0.310 or less) as a decent RE'd Level 7 gun. You'll be lucky if you break 0.370 refire for a Level 6 gun. This is slightly offset by the higher shield and armor effectiveness of most Level 6 looted guns.
