Thread: Y-8 mining problems..
took me a clear 10 minutes to resalise that yes, I was hitting the chunks properly, the tractor beam just wasn't doing anything.
From what I can figure out, if there's no one in the pilot seat, the mining equipment doesn't work.

Sorry took some time to reply, had problems with my pc. What I wanted to say was "Compared to my Y-8, my X-Wing could pull....." in other words the X-Wing is much more efficient in mining than Y-8. In fact I timed myself using the Y-8 and it took me like 2-3 hours to fill the 5000 small cargo hold (Y-8 only).

Right thanks, so the y-8 main gun i the only one that can mine? great... Also, when you said this;
(Compared to my heavy X-wing I could pull in more resources from Khashyyyk to Kessel to Kashyyyk runs. I average 6k in 30 mins. I can fill up my 1550 cargo in about 5 mins or so with MK III Mining Laser, Crafted tractor beam. 1-2 shots on the asteroid will produce medium chunk and 3-5 shots on the medium will get small chunks. Being at 60m or less and having my tractor beam with the same weapon group as the mining laser makes things very easy. Everything get sucked up the moment the medium chunk breaks. (I use weapon overload 3 engine overload 3 capacitor overcharge 3)
did you mean this was your xwing or your y8?

Personally, I'd just like to know how to get the thing to work at all. I've put the Elite Mining Laser, the Mark 2 reward laser, and a Mark 3 that I made myself into the pilot's gun mount, and none of them even cause the asteroid to degrade, let alone split off chunks. I built the Y-8 reactor. I built the Y-8 capacitor. No effect, the thing just can't mine at all. It's not merely more difficult than using a fighter, it's just *not possible*...
...And yet just last night, when I pulled up to an asteroid to mine in my B-Wing, there was a guy cheerfully mining away in a Y-8. It must be possible to get it to work. But how?
Could those of you with working Y-8s perhaps post what equipment you're using? Whether you have any objects placed in the interior? Whether you use a crew? Whether you have other POB ships in the datapad? Whether you've ever seen an error message of any kind when using the thing, even if it was only 'You cannot launch another ship with an interior...'? Anything might help...

Its very buggy. Take a look at my post up there. Being still, using droid commands and /examine can cause problems. Also you have to take note that when you fire your mining laser at the asteroids, to know if it will degrade or not by not /examining it, your lasers will produce a large flare upon impact on the asteroids. Kinda like an explosion. If you see that and no chunks spawn don't worry blast it till the asteroid respawn. If you don't see any flare/explosion upon impact, what I did was land, unload all components, redeed and do it all over again. This time I'll go without any droid commands. Usually it solves it then I will issue droid commands after getting like 10% cargo hold.

I use the Y-8 because I hate to land every now and then to unload cargo..
I simply use a mark III mining laser (weapon 2), no tractor beam. I will now upgrade to Elite Mining Laser and see if it's more easy, to be honest the only problem with the Y8 is that I can't use a mining laser and a tractor beam at the same time.
If I was rebel I'd probably use an x-wing with 2 mark III mining lasers and a tractor beam, but as an imperial pilot I don't have the option of a 3 guns ship :/
I'm also going to try to mine with the starfighter using a mark III laser, a tractor beam (or 2 mark III laser)and a large cargo hold.. if it's really faster I might try and get used to land every now and then to unload the cargo.
Anyway, they should really allow us to use both the mining laser and the tractor beam from pilot seat. Maybe someone thinks it's wrong because it should require a crew, but it is also wrong that anyone (not even master pilot) can mine 2 if not 3X faster from a starfighter.
If they let us use mining laser and tractor beam from the pilot seat we would be able to mine at a decent rate and maybe bring a gunner or two with us when we go to kessel or other dangerous sectors.
