Thread: Show your support for a better factory compromise
Give it time. Right now you have a bunch of new pilots out there buying up what they can so they can compete. Once the big RotW jumping to space craze is over, it will slow down again.
Putting in factory support right now would just be a short term fix with a long term problem. No factory support means that there will always be a big demand for new crafters. Put in factories and that demand will drop like a rock. Try taking up armorsmith and compete. You can't. The factories big advantage is for the vet crafters and those who have a guild to support with large supplies.
SW is a true end game crafting profession. It takes time and dedication to be good, not a large supply of resources and a factory on the side. The devs made it this way for a reason, and most if not close to all vet SW won't want it to change. it makes specail and gives us more interaction with customers for those who do custom jobs. No 1000+ mark 5 x items that float around which everyone has and its the only way to go, no its a great mixture of great parts with different stats.
May it stay that way, and if fact, my opinion, make the other crafting pros more like SW in several ways, not all, cause each crafting profession does have its differences and simularities. SW was a great new direction in crafting, not perfect but a good direction on making it a fun and enjoyable crafting profession.
every profession takes great price in hand crafting special orders for people, or even a few eliete items for sale on the forums or on vendor. But not everyone has hours to spend handcrafting every single item. Some like myself, enjoy this profession but have a multitude of other things both Ingame and in Rl, and don't have the time to lovinglt craft each and every item. Others just as dedicated to this profession as the next gut, just don't play enough to sit there and handcraft hundreds of items.
You want to make a few really nice personalized components, I deal in Bulk, I am known for providing varity and quantity. We each have our playing style, allow each of us to play our way. with the large ammounts of resources needec to make these items you will not see a flooded market. expecially with armorsmiths and weaponsmiths being able to buy the better resources due to larger markup's and demand on thier items.
Even with full factory support, their will always be a demand for personalized components. Despite stocking over 1500 pieces of armor, I am alwys getting tells and e-mails for that "special suit". There's room in this game for both.
/sign... this prof needs some crafting help
/sigh
Thanks for those who offered respectful opinions. I had assumed this would get a little more support now that we all have been doing this for months.
But I guess if you dont craft as much, clicking on the pretty bars doesnt get old so fast
.
Maybe Ill try again in a few months.

Like everyone else, I've been around and seen this topic over and over. I too for the record love the system as it is and feel that full factory support would do more harm than good when you weigh the pros and cons.
Galaxies is the first game I've ever seen that has factories, and factories definitly have thier rightfull place in this game. For high consumables (like food, meds, and to some extent armor and weapons)it is economically positive to have factories. On the plus side, it is a major time-saver for some crafters.
For shipwrights, factories are a time-saver as well, but the economics of space are so different than the ground game, the demand for thousands of products of the same stats just isn't there like it is for many other professions. In such a situation, supply and demand dictate that the supply should be lower, and the customizability of ships dictate supply for identical parts should be lower. I know that there are exceptions (like armor and perhaps reactors), but I'd be willing to sacrifice that in order to keep this profession from being a 'who can get the most resources fastest and slash thier prices lowest' profession.
The new demand is great and exactly why I would not support more factory usage. This upward swing in sales will last far longer if the market isn't flooded with items everywhere - which would occur if Shipwrights could churn things out like crazy.
Respectfully, I would still rather not see increased factory support. While you may not like having to click over and over, that is the whole game to those that see Shipwright as their "end game" profession. We take great care and pride in hand crafting great items. Despite the fact we cannot make them in abundance, it makes for ongoing activity for those that have chosen it.
Yeah I had to go out and harvest the resources, but that is done almost afk too unless I buy them from the profits of my factory produced ship parts. Now as a combat character, I have to work for every bit of gain. The way shipwright is now, I have to work just about the same amount for my gain. I make the majority of my profits from being at the keyboard. I think this is one place where shipwright has it right. If I want to be the best shipwright I am going to have to bust my finger's butt to make it happen. If I don't keep up that pace, then I can still make a decent living due to the demand. A shipwright that has total dedication to the profession can make a fortune.
Does anybody even have 6,250,000 units of the same resource to make a run of 1000 MkV components? You couldn't even fit all those in a factory at the same time, that's 62 1/2 stacks of just one resource. It would probably take a month straight just for that one run. Sane people would only do 10-20 at a time anyway.
Maybe if we took a poll of people who respecced out of MSW we could get a different picture.
There are fewer and fewer SW with a stocked shop, and even the flood of respec SWs did not help yet, they all craft only for themselves and their friends.
From my last check in the bazar I seem to be the only one in the whole galaxy with a stocked shop
