Well this is one of those areas where it would be nice to have the devs input
I currently fly a B wing with top speed 998 wity ypr ratings 51.2 all three an engine that was maxed for speed with 900+oq all components no experimentation was done for ypr
that B wing can kill firesprays one on one in deepspace quite often in pvp
my awing does 1300 with engine thats 49 ypr rating and disables tier fives in or two shots easily when set at match speed
she can charge in and out on the stardestroyer taking out guns bow to aft one at time taking few hits
and does well in pvp
there are two major ways to dogfight: jousting and tailing
if you like the tailing technique then speed will be less important to you but the problem with crafted engines is that you get little reward for spending a lot of points toward ypr. Its easy to re-engineer engines to 87 speed and ypr approaching 70 but you cant do that on a crafted engine.
So if you want high ypr as your priortiy then go re-engineered and if you want speed the go crafted

Good point. It's depressing watching the YPR experimentation go up a little bit each time. You can start at say 49.1 and only end up in the mid 50s depending on how many points you use.

Heres another thought, although i dont think many will come to the same conclusion.

Engine overload offsets any defeciences in top speed in player crafted engines. If the YPR was good enough, and the engine not so expensive.. personnaly i would use a high YPR, low top speed engine, and just augment it with engine overload 4.

But then, this would be something i would do if i could not find any RE'ed engine. Its nice having your cake and eating it too (base engine having both speed and YPR) but if i can only get good YPR, id let engine overload to the rest if the engine wasnt that expensive, Beat the hell out of it with engine overload 4, and just buy another one later.

All that said, ive found that high YPR in all spaceships, isnt neccessarly desireable. In my Rhyxirk, (aka flies like a brick) i had same 75 YPR, 88 speed engine i mentioned earlier, and i ended up using a MK IV 54 YPR engine to save on mass, and because frankly, the ship had become too "jumpy" and i was oversteering a bit more than id like to. So i "dumbed down" the engine and acutally did better.

This goes back to my orginal point... crafted engines have poor YPR values.
