Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't SWG based upon the original Star Wars trilogy, i.e. Episodes 4, 5 and 6? Will this mean that they have to remove Luke and Leia from the game since the stuff they are adding in, was before they were born?It will be impossible to have 2 completely different era's within one single game and be able to have any sort of time line, let alone any sense of direction to take the game. For example, is the game "progressing" or is it "regressing"? What next? Adding in Alderaan? Hehe.
Personally, I don't see how adding a new fighter to the game is going to break the timeline, no-where has it been stated that this fighter doesn't exist anymore, and so far the devs haven't added a ship that isn't supposed to exist yet. If you look around in space you'll find plenty of Droid Starfighters, which we know existed before Episode 1, and I know from all the star wars books I've read that the Z-95 pre-dates the clone wars, and the Y-Wing has been around forever as well. Remember, this is a galaxy that's had space travel for thousands of generations, and is part of an empire spanning over a million worlds. I'm sure that in areas of space that see alot of traffic you'd see all kinds of ships that would be considered rare.

I'm all for having new content, but when it's content that is brought into the game via a time machine I'm pretty much unhappy about. Would you want an mmorpg based in the 1970's having vehicles from the 1930's and expect it to be acceptable? It would be akin to Al Capone being served his draft notice and being shipped off to Vietnam.
I think this was already mentioned earlier, but I'll say it anyways, this galaxy is pretty much going through a technological depression, the vessels of this time are not really that much better than vessels created centuries beforehand. ROTS takes place only about 20 years before ANH, in that time most of the galaxies hasn't changed at all from a technological standpoint.

Just to respond on some of the things PaleGT1
continuity isn't very strong in the game. It been tossed out of the window for the fun factor. to much continuity and the fun just ends. The movies are not the end all of the game. there is the expanded universe, and besides, the movies only cover the tiniest part of the know galaxy. There are billions of other things going on at the same time.
As for content from episode 2 and 3, heck even 1 and earlier. Do we throw away anything in rl if its a few years old? No one likes to drive a classic chevy anymore because its old? They are adding things that would still be around 20 years latter in the movie time line. I don't understand why people have such a problem with things of the past become part of the game. come on, ships are not cheap, well a lot cheaper in game than in the movies, but think about the movie. They use corvettes in the latter episodes even though its is a older ship.
Alderaan will not be added. But i like to have some RETRO items in the game. lets bring on the 60's and 70's lifestyles of SWG.

Just because it's old, and wasn't seen in ANH, ESB, or RotJ, doesn't necessarily mean it "shouldn't" be in game, like an earlier post said about the classic car analogy........Studebakers are not made any more, but you still see them on the road......the entire galaxy is HUGE...the Empire cannot controlthe fact that someonemay havea 30 year old "classic" ship in his private hanger somewhere in the Outer Rim........
As for the mining stuff, my guess is that the mining ship "components" will be a little like the ground game harvesters.......small ships like Dunelizards, Y-Wings, etc, may be able to hold a "mining tool" equivalant to say a BER2-4 harvester.........a YT-1300, Krayt, etc....maybe equivalant to a BER 8-10 harvester.......and the "new" mining ship would hold the big BER 12-13 harvesters.....your guess is as good as mine though.......we'll find out soon enough.

One of the pre-expansion picks that have been released shows a ship that I have not seen before. I assume that this is the mining ship. It looks big anyway and appears to be a freighter.

PaleGT1 wrote:Some of this stuff in the expansion sounds neat and mostly positive. However, I've yet to hear anyone but me, mention the glaring problems with some of the stuff in the expansion, such as the so-called "Jedi Starfighter".Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't SWG based upon the original Star Wars trilogy, i.e. Episodes 4, 5 and 6? So I'm all for anything to do with space. It's already proven itself as the best there is in SWG.The hand-method mining might be the invention of the several UO developers who now work on SWG.Hehe, not sure if it would be a by-hand method, or maybe they will make it a Freelancer style mining method (point turrets at 'roids and blast them into gold, copper, etc), or it will entail deploying a harvestor type equipment onto an asteroid. EVA suits and space walks anyone?

okay, now you are just being stupid.... anything that was available (unless completely erradicated) in the past should be available today. That being said, anything from the past may in fact be a WORSE item than a more recently made one (not counting tech declines, or truely superior craftsmanship).
