Thread: Respec'd Shipwrights -- PLEASE READ
I respeced to Shipwright the other day and have been having a good time of it. I also have been reading every single thing I could get my hands on from here and at SWGCraft.com.
I know how annoying it is to get bombed with questions that you know are in a sticky.
my 2 cents.
N00b shipwright and not asking stupid questions. ![]()
OOPS wrong button
Where was I,
Before you start flaming me. I was mater shipwright, before CU can out, items stopped selling on my server so i picked up weaponsmith, Now my main character is a pilot smuggler commando and the other day I needed a part os two to fix up the old tub, Could I find a decent shipwright that had anything in stock when i needed it. NO .... So i respec.
Now i find out that so shipwright don't want to reanswer question for new people. What kind of dolts are you? How do you know if the person is a respec or a new shipwright? Your attitude could drive new players away and make them think that this noble profession is run by a bunch of stuckups.
I know i will be flamed and that most will be just so you can make your self fell more important then someone else. GO for it if it makes you feel like a man. I have been called worse names by better people.
I mastered shipwright the day BEFORE JTL officaially went live(They turned it on, I had my key, I registered, and I had all my resources already and an hour to kill). I was also a master SW through much of the Beta process, and I was one of those Styx selected for his CU Alpha team, before I had to leave the game for a month or two due to monetary problems. I say this not to say I'm better than anyone else. I say this so you know I know something about this profession and what it's gone through from inception to release to today.
I, nor anyone here, has a problem with respecced MSWs in principle. Nor do any other professions have any real beef, in general with respeccers in their professions. The problem is the same we have with many new Novices asking these questions. The problem is, that respeccers tend to ask them a LOT, in any profession.
We don't mind answering those questions. That is why we went through the great effort of writing guides and FAQs and stickied them so that there would be a convenient repository of knowledge for new people in the profession to draw from. Every profession has one of these, as far as i know.
The problem isn't the questions. the problem is we've answered them already for these people, and they're asking again anyway, and that's irritating to ANYONE.
A lot of you have said a lot about the elitism and how it's wrong to dump on you just because you repecced. what you have to understand, is you're not the problem. Period. And getting up in our faces for being irritated at someone who ISN'T YOU is pretty ridiculous, in all honesty. I respect anyone that comes into the profession and is interested in it until they give me reason otherwise. respeccing doesn't bother me. Not reading the stickies doesn't bother me. Arguing with me, usually doesn't bother me. Asking me the finer points of getting the most out of an engine doesn't bother me. Asking me the basic information that is in those stickies when you haven't read them? Yes, that bothers me. We put them there for a reason, not just because we like having things sticky. Yes, we're willing to educate new Shipwrights, redpecced masters or otherwise. That is exactly why the stickies are there and why we want people to read them instead of ask questions they answer. the reason we dodn't like when people do NOT do this, is because we are not here JUST to educate new Shipwrights, and rehashing the same set of questions we already have answered in an easy-to-find place detracts from discussing issues, sharing tips, going over ideas, and answering questions that those stickies do NOT answer.
Ask us what we look for when REing an engine, we're happy to help.
Ask HOW to RE an engine, and you should prepare for grumpy SWs.
It's as simple as that, and I don't think it's unreasonable at all to ask that those seeking the experience of older SWs at least try to find their question in our old, prominent posts. those of you posting that you're a respecced or new SW that have done so or don't ask questions they answer, Kudos.
