how about this for an idea flame if you think it's warranted
Allow pilots torepair/maintain their own components and ships, but with less effectiveness than a Shipwright (maybe the skill could be added in the same light as RE skills)
so Pilots could effectively open a contract with a shipwright, possibly for a number of repairs/maintenance cycles which would mean that for the next x repairs done by a specific shipwright they get better results (going elsewhere or DIY will yield worse results)
This would IMHO bring into play a relationship between Shipwrights and Pilots that isn't really there yet. After all Shipwrights are the ones with all the skills needed for ships and components, why not tie the proffession into the maintenance of ships somehow ?

Pilots can with the repair kits made by shipwrights and not have the decay they get from repairing their ship in space at the station.

I'm pretty sure that they decay whether repaired from a station or a kit

I am a shipwright, I am a pilot.
I had armor damaged about half-way down on my ship and when I was on the ground, I used an Armor repair kit. I watched the numbers for Armor Hitpoints drop by a small percentage when the repair was complete. Perhaps it doesn't happen everytime you do the repair, but it did indeed happen at least one time to me.
Yes sorry there is decay but greatly reduced compared to the space station repairing it (or was in beta not tested it live).

This new poll would have a definate inpact on our profession, so I thought I'd point it out to everyone. Personally I think mission terminals need to be added to space, because we really do earn very little in space. But asking for delayed, or lessened decay would not do anything but impact us detrimentally.
AS Either.

Look its real simple, the decay is too excessive.
I burned through a whole tier 4 chassis and components doing teir 4 and master. That is about 800-900k worth of chassis and components. I dont go through a 300k Set of armor that quickly. And armor has a double decay effectivly...decay if you die and decay as wear and tear.
Also decay was removed from PVP if insured which should be done with space to encourage PVP.
Also the space payouts do not warrant such expenses

Yea, you can keep a set of armor for months sometimes and they dont loose effectiveness from damage and repairing like ships do, I dont see any armorsmiths struggling for cash, infact they are probably richer than anyone (except SWs). Chassis decay has no place there are so many ways they could have done it instead (such damaged ships needing spare parts, e.g. a new wing or gun mounts), it should be removed or fully reversable. Shipwrights seem to be the only profession who dont need anything from another profession also.
Hell droid engineers arnt doing to badly and droids dont decay AT ALL.
Currently shipwrights have the monopoly on anything to do with space, it should not be this way.

Uh, I didnt notice that. Dont expect them to. Either way they last too long, Id say they should last twice as long as they do now. Why? Shipwrights like to charge a lot for their stuff, I saw one SW selling paint kits for 22K!! another selling tier 4 ship chassis for 1.5 mil!! if ships dont last long whats with these rediculous prices/!

Well especially with the resources required insurance should be there but ba as it is on ground
PVE death insured = minor decy
PVE death not insured = major decay
PVP insured = no decay
PVP not insured = major decay
PVP should also be encouraged.
I disagree with the Jeysien's post that money is easy to come by. The latest TC changes remove a large factor in that. Money will be harder to come by and the space mission payouts do ont cover the cost of the component replacement.
