I'd like anyone who has quest ides on rewards or type of quest to go to the shipwright quest focus thread and put them in.

We are not Hull techs alone either. For the most part we craft everything that goes into a starship. There are probably always going to be some chassis we can't craft and some components we can't craft. Judging by the fact that mining equipment and the heavy varients of the starter ships are being requested, special ordered, and bought off the market 10 minutes or less after placing, at least in some case, I'd hardly say ROTW gave the shipwrights the shaft.
I'd happily trade them for the Advanced X-wing schematic.
I understand that we want to be able to craft the best of everything in game. I will continue to express the community's desire to have more craftables. In the case of ROTW, in my opinion, we were given way more profitable items to craft than those quest ships would have been.

I'd happily trade craftable composits for the heavy X-wing and the JSF. If non-imps were able to get the JSF without going imp to do the quest, it would be much less of a balance issue. I'd happily compromise and let the corvette be quest driven IF they could guarantee the gunboats to crafted. It still pisses me off that they aren't asking for any player input on developing cap ships. They can stick that NDA where the sun don't shine.

Nice to see a real discussion about adding cap ships....it's more than the devs would want. .....Why didn't they put cap ships in the in-concept forum??????

So much anger. So much negativity.

From our perspective, it's easy to always pin it on the devs and make them out to be evil and nasty. However, you need some of their perspective to understand. I have a lot of perspective, being a software engineer for 22 years. SWG represents a very large piece of software, and the nature of the product and the size make it difficult to balance the needs of the customer base:

  • The customer base is always demanding more content, which translates into new code, new graphic models, new art, and new sounds.

  • The customer base is always demanding new features, which translates into new code, new graphic models, new art, and new sounds.

  • There are always bugs--always. There exists theory that claims that the number of bugs in a piece of software can never reach zero, and that assumes no changse to the software. It requires a sizeable effort to resolve bugs without the software base growing, and this just isn't the case with SWG. The problem is compounded many times because they are always adding/changing/removing code.

In addition, it is my opinion that they do a pretty good job listening to the community at large. People complained about the CU, but SOE responded in a reasonable manner to the community. First, people posted constantly--you need to look WOW, why doesn't this work like WOW, why does WOW have this and we don't. Second, people starting leaving the game to play WOW. Thus, the devs gave us a combat system that parallels WOW. On a smaller note, I think DP has been doing a great job looking after some of the problems with Shipwright.

As far as NDAs go, you have to understand that SOE is a business and needs to protect itself, and they do this when interacting with the outside with an NDA. In this case, it is simple--they showed the players at Fan Fest something new and cool. They made them sign an NDA. Why? Because they need to reserve the right to not ship player-controlled capital ships. Without the NDA, they may put themselves into a position where they have to legally commit to shipping the feature, and they can't do that for obvious reasons.

Commtampers, if the game frustrates you so much, why are you playing it? It is a game. It is supposed to be fun. When it stop being fun, you shouldn't play it anymore. However, becoming all upset and spreading those nasty vibes all over these forums isn't fun for those of us that are trying to have fun.
