Thread: A Warning to the devs
I've been wondering about this sort of thing...
If there are player-owned capitol ships, I want them to be craftable. Should it be difficult? Oh yes. Should it be time consuming? Absolutely.
But should the non-crafters be able to get such a ship without any input from us, the shipwrights? Absolutely NOT. We are shipwrights. We make ships. That is all we do. That is our content. Allowing players to get hold of ships (of any type, frankly) without any way of involving us is almost insulting. Yes, I know, combat characters must have their phat lewt. But that doesn't justify taking away our content and giving it to them instead. If we can't make ships, we're nothing.
So yes, make them craftable. That doesn't mean it has to be easy. Make each one require, say, half a million asteroid resources, for example... A determined guild could get that in a week or two, and it should keep them pretty rare.

I am very worried that the capital ship expansion will cut shipwrights out of the expanding content. I beg you devs to please RELEASE the info from your closed doors so that we shipwrights can give informed and useful input. The ROTW release already has shipwrights pissed off with the craftability of good ships. More good stuff that isn't craftable may cause an even further cut in shipwright satisfaction. My warning: If you fail to make fun capital ships, and any fun ships for that matter, craftable, then you can loose my subscription money and any of my remaining respect.
friend im not even a shippy and im making money from the econmy since the ROTW so much so im now an endorcement for a shipwright on my server. and he makes a Lot off money off my reputation alone.
(makes me wish i had a manager but hell i do it for free parts)
seems since RoTW went live shipping the need for shipping goods has risen higher due to space mining and the need for lightweight parts for the eta-2 actis, tie interseptor RG & bulbubb-22
not to mention the resale of mining equipment to almost every pilot, this means more mining (i have a feeling when they fix the Y-8 we will need more schematics using astroid resorces)
after the CURB its been harder then ever to solo grind missions and earn the big bucks as a combaten, but space is now the best place for non crafters to earn some good cash.
loot has always been part of SWG and a big part of the econmy but without payouts no money will be pumped in to the game.
personly i would love to see a new server open up now under an up to date patch release, i would like to see how the econmy develops without solo mission grinders and so on.
this server would probbly become more space orientated.
For those that have made master level ships it takes 150k of resources to make something with 212k or so mass
with that said alot of people were upset that the shipwright wasnt able to make the Y-8... that thing has 5MILLION mass
and the capital ship is about the size of the y-8 or bigger how much do you think it take in resources?

What I would like to see is something a bit more modest, the ability to dock with a space station and reload missiles and countermeasures and unload cargo holds. Being able to stay in space and not travel down to the ground everytime your launcher runs low or your cargo hold fills up would make life in space a lot easier.
Speaking of space stations, why not let us dock at them to rearm missles, get missions and questsfrom npcs and even board other players POB ships
Maybe even have it so you dont have to restart your droid proggies if you dock and can get a shipwright to repair your ship in person to cut down on decay?
I'm a master SW,and I don't really want to craft something that big,and something i will get a email loads asking to build theres first..
I say make it quest base..PLZ... and let u upgrade the ships parts... and Let SW Craft those things ![]()
and give us some othe types of Pob ships to build,,ie...Imp shuttle,Rebel and imps gunboats
, list goes on,and on and on haha
I really dont want to mine or buy the steel it would take to build a vette or Captial ship ![]()
Oh i say this again..PLease add that cool clone ship from ep1,where they flown in to save those Jedis butts... It would make a cool muilt player ship
one pilot and four gunners ![]()

For the record. Novas, YTs, and Decimators all also have 5 million mass, last I checked.

We are not Hull techs alone either. For the most part we craft everything that goes into a starship. There are probably always going to be some chassis we can't craft and some components we can't craft. Judging by the fact that mining equipment and the heavy varients of the starter ships are being requested, special ordered, and bought off the market 10 minutes or less after placing, at least in some case, I'd hardly say ROTW gave the shipwrights the shaft.
I understand that we want to be able to craft the best of everything in game. I will continue to express the community's desire to have more craftables. In the case of ROTW, in my opinion, we were given way more profitable items to craft than those quest ships would have been.
I am in complete agreement with IIScander here.
At this point, if a Shipwright truly believes that the only road to success is crafting chassis, then they should probably consider give up being a Shipwright. Since CU and RotW went live, the ship business has absolutely boomed through the ceiling. I believe the following reasons can be attributed to this:
- The CU presented a lot of players with changes that temporarily or permanently scared them off. Some of these players decided to try out the space aspect of the game.
- The only way that a player cantravel to Kashyyyk is through space. This peaked players' curiosity and many decided to give the space aspect of the game a try.
- RotW presents players with a loot relating to the space aspect of the game.
- RotW introduced the notion of space mining.
In fact, let me go as far as to say that I am probably making more money than if the devs gave us Shipwrights the schematics to these new ship chassis. Let me explain why I believe this.
Let's suppose that we had the schematics to all these new ships. Players would be curious and come snooping around to ask how much one would cost. However, many players would simply pass, not being able to justify the cost (as they probably already have a ship).
However, a player that does a quest and obtains a ship chassis as a reward has every incentive to equip it with the best components that money can buy--after all, they want to show off their reward and let all their friends know they have one of these new ships. I made over 600K outfitting one player's ARC-170 alone.
Thus, I am inclined to believe that what the devs have done so far has been the best option for us. In fact, I wouldn't mind one bit if players obtained all ship chassis as rewards. With Imperials and Rebels this would be easy--they would be given the choice of ships when they earn a new ship skill box. Freelancers could earn them as mission rewards--perhaps their employer gives them the ship for good performance.
I still say the real fun is equipping a player's ship. It would be nice if player-controlled capital ships can be equipped by players. It would be nice if the devs gave us better components for POB ships and Y-8 ships as well; the current elite components don't scale in a fashion that I would have expected.

I'd happily trade them for the Advanced X-wing schematic.

I'd happily trade craftable composits for the heavy X-wing and the JSF. If non-imps were able to get the JSF without going imp to do the quest, it would be much less of a balance issue. I'd happily compromise and let the corvette be quest driven IF they could guarantee the gunboats to crafted. It still pisses me off that they aren't asking for any player input on developing cap ships. They can stick that NDA where the sun don't shine.
Nice to see a real discussion about adding cap ships....it's more than the devs would want. .....Why didn't they put cap ships in the in-concept forum??????
