Thread: Asteriod Resources

Together all of us are working to better the shipwright profession as best we can. Often we will take one step at a time. There are only so many hours of code time that can be spent on each profession. Best we can do is to continue to offer our ideas on what we would like to see more of and what we would like to see less of.
So hang on for the ride everybody and be sure to speak your mind. But remember we are a team, us and the devs, not us vs the devs
Oh, Captain, my captain!
I agree with not wanting to see the Y-8 reduced to pack mule status as well. Which is why i'll stay hopeful for a space drill of some kind so we dont have to chase rocks. I love the Y-8 so much i deeded my yacht just because i felt like the yacht was lame now that i had a cool ship with a bridge and such. I think that they should work on making the Y-8 self sufficient on its own AND the docking idea isnt that bad at all either. That would truely make it useful on all ends.

What if the Y-8 could initiate a docking sequence and if you allow it, it gobbles up the minerals in your hold just like if you dock with a disabled cargo carrying vessel.
I want it to work like it originally should have been intended. Mining the hell out of asteroids. Sorry, i am very bitter, upset, and distraught.
I fear that SW will be the most hurt crafting profession, possible tie with Merchant, with the way crafting and TC-prime has been treated. Since the CU, i see more and more of our greatness being dwindled down to little less than just pony tricks. I don't want to have the Y-8 became a freakin' pack mule. I don't want crafting to be dumb down and slowly weeded out of the game.
The Y-8 is a bueatiful ship. I fell in love with itbefore i even owned it. I fell in love with SW when i got to test it out in JTL beta. It was great. But now, I fear the devs have not been squeezed into a narrow spot and are told only to work on Combatant things. Why are we still waiting for resource fixes? To many bugs have been pushed thru, and then we been told there hasn't been enough testing. I am sorry to rant here, but i joined TC a long time ago, and when SW came, i planned on testing it to the best i could because i love SW. I want SW's to be the gods of crafting, but sadly, i see crafting shoved to the edge with a loss of a Testing server that had time and energy to gather resources. Crafted needed testing items and pilots gallore to test all our stuff. But that has become no more.
So, as i said, i do not ever want to see the Y-8 nerfed and dumb down to a pack mule ship. I do salute you IIscandar, you are a great corrospondent. But please, don't back down now, we need you more than ever.

asteroid resources imo are what holding alot of shipwrights back.
What do you mean by this statement? How are asteroid resources holdingshipwrights back?
i hear rates of 100 cpu for asteroid resources, and considering it takes at least 1000 of any kind of asteroid resource and often at least 1000 for several different kinds to make any of the new elite/mining-grade parts and high mass ships, unless you go out yourself to get these resources (which takes forever considering the y-8 is not an effective mining vehicle), you lose alot of money for making these parts unless you sell them at ridiculously high prices.
Personally, I charge 100 CPU for any asteroid resources going into an item. I have had few complaints about my prices, and typically I can defuse the situation by taking the time to educate my customers. Some even offer to bring the resources to me, which I will entertain only for regular customers.
As for mining, I am having no problems. The Y-8 will not and should not allow players to mine faster, but to mine more efficiently (i.e., you don't have to keep landing to empty your cargo hold). Personally, I can pull down 1550 units in about 10-20 minutes (depending on how many spawns of asteroid bandits I have to thwart off). In addition, I have plenty of partners and friends bringing me resources, and I pay them well for their efforts.
something needs to be done! plz voice your opinions and what you think could be done to improve the situation! i'll start it off...
- mining extraction rate needs to be raised. this can be done by increasing the amount of asteroid taken in when the chunks are destroyed or hauled in by the tractor beam. increasing the capacity of the cargo holds can also help, cutting the downtime between trips from the starport to the asteroid. make so the chunks float along much more slowly (less time jetting across the galaxy after a small tiny chunk, more time mining) maybe even allowing medium sized chunks to be hauled in by POB ships or the y-8 tractor beam (they are much larger after all, so why not?).
- y-8 needs to be made an effective mining vessel. blind spots in the current weapon set-up make it a hassle to extract the asteroid, break apart the chunks, pull in the small chunks, and deal with asteroid pirates. it takes a well disciplined crew and escort to even mine in kessel! try finding 4 or 5 other ppl that'll deal with all that with practically no incentive at all (elite engines are no better and sometimes worse than the normal mark V crafted)!
Regarding the Y-8, DP made some comments regarding the Y-8 in the recent stratics chat.
thats all i can think of for now. plz post your thoughts!

/SIGN bigger cargo holds and cargo transfer!!!!!!!!!
Heheh - I agree!
If I can carry 80x 100K stacks of copper in my inventory (in my pockets I guess??) even 5k for a cargo hold seems too low. I would rather see larger fighter holds before cargo transfer though. I'm getting better at mining, but the fact that I have to land every 10-15 minutes makes me cringe. Having the ability to transfter to the Y-8 is great - and needed - but it does nothing for those of us who want to do a little mining alone.

They said in the Stratics Chat that they were gonna add 2 more front weapon mounts to the Y8.... isn't the problem that the weapon mounts already on the ship don't work or aren't effective? So lets add 2 more mounts that won't work.
I have a Y8 but haven't flown it because of it's "multi-player" requirements... and I'd rather fly/mine solo, so I don't know of it's drawbacks from experience...only what I've read.

Two more weapon mounts is what it said... Nothing, I notice, about actually giving it the ability to mine At All. Not that I'm bitter, or becoming obsessed, or anything.
No, clearly the thing to do is to add two more forward arc turrets and make it the most powerful POB ship for combat by a country mile. Yes, that's the thing to do. ![]()

It has nothing to do with what you can carry. It has more to do with balance in the game. Compare it to the amount of resources you can harvest from a creature. It takes time to put together a 100K stack of a creature resource. If a player could do it faster, than the supply of the items requiring those resources would increase, which could have a profound affect on the balance of the game. Observe that the items requiring asteroid resources are "high-end" items. The devs have purposely made it difficult to flood the market with these "high-end" items.
i keep asking my self:
am i playing the same game that SOE is playing?

No offense - Just playing the devil's advocate
But since when was this game ever balanced?
One of my other toons is a master ranger. I can harvest over 400 units of creature resource from a CL80 mob. It probably took me 2-3 minutes to kill that mob (pike is my only combat). So, does this seem balanced to you?
Besides - you missed my point. If I go hunting and harvest 1500 hides, I am not forced to run back to a trade outpost that's clear across the planet just to unload my goods. I do feel that the rate of extraction on asteroids could be much quicker, but that isn't my point really. If I had to choose between a larger cargo hold or faster extraction, I would pick larger hold. It's the running back to a starport and landing to unload that is silly. It takes me out of the experience - even if mining is less than exciting.

Two more front weapon mounts makes the YT a more powerful miner as well as PvP ship. Now, with four or five people, it might actually be fun to mine in. I'm planning on building myself equipment for it now, amazingly.
Still doesn't have a heavymissile loadout, and has maneuverability worse than my Nova's, so I'd give your YT a pass, thanks...
Might be funny to try taking on the corvette with it, though.
