I do not think that ship chasis shoul ware out except unless the pilot gets killed like every 5 minutes. I say that just to make it more worthwhile learning to fly before you buy a million dollar ship. However I do feel the need for components to take some damage over time, because otherwise once the economy has their ship like THEY want it then they are set for eternity. I look at what the poster above stated that ships take tons more resources which they should, there not tiny, but on the flip side a component should take damage getting blasted at by other ships. I mean its already a safe haven for jedi to jump up into space and stay off the ground b/c u can not lose xp when u die in space. By the way I am no bounty hunter so thats not why I said that. I too see a trend where shipwrights will hurt when components do not decay like other crafted stuff in the game. Especially if we are able to find better stuff in space over time, why even need a shipwright except to get a chasis from and the basic starter stuff.

One more issue:

- It should be possible to convert starship crafting xp into FS crafting xp at the Village.

For those who weren't in beta:

Most crafted components are far superior when you're a MSW to looted items. The only consistent exceptions were engines and boosters/capacitors (one or both of those, can't remember which). At the early stages, it seems everything that drops is better--but once pilots hit tier III and up, they will still be getting the same drops while the crafted stuff is far superior.

the low level components that are looted tend to be better than crafted but as you rises in component levels this reverses so crafted tends to end up better than loot. and for the really good loot you have to like loot 10 of the same thing to get one item that is better than crafted and then find a shipwright to RE it...

so there is tons of work for a shipwright. be glad chasis will cap out once everyone has what they want. damn things take a TON of reources and the experimentation and resource quality really doesnt have a large effect on the end result. a perfect resource ship with all amazing results is not much different than a 100 quality ship with no experimentation. we are talking 80k resources for a tier4 and well over 100k for a master ship...

sell the hulls cheap make your market with a few folks and they will come back over and over for REs and components and missiles and countermeasures. a little loyalty earned on selling hulls at cost or a little over will go a long way to earning a solid customer base that will return to YOU for their other needs.

gouge people on the hulls and you wont establish a relationship with your customers.

seems like common sense business to me. car dealers make more money repairing the cars they sell than selling them...

well decay is soemthing most every item has in one form or another, either thru the payment of a maint cost (wallet decay) or thru use like weapons and armor.

im nto advocating that ships run out after a weeks time. what i am saying is that if a ship is stedily used and takes da,age it should wear out. there is only so many times a ships hull can be torn to shreds and pasted back together.

as with everything there needs to be a balance so pilots are payign 1 mil credits a week just to fly, and shipwrights dont go hungry after the first month.

I would like to post that some ships weapons just seem to STOP working while in combat. I have contacted a CSR who esxplained that it is a known issue and to tell everyone who has this problem to submit a ticket. The blasters fire, yes, but they do not hit anything. Just thought you all should be aware of this issue because I had several customers complain that I sold them broken guns. cheerS!

Folks - please - let us not *DISCUSS* the issues here otherwise this thread will turn into a pile of crap. Let's just add things to the list to help the new Shipwright correspondent have a headstart on an issues list. They will drive sorting them out into groups and leading the actual discussion of the issues.

I don't think chasis should decay. It's just a shell, and is totally repairable. Look at the Falcon, it was owned by Lando before Han had it. That thing had been through LOTS of battles, and got very beat up on many occassion. And it had it's issues, they were always fixing it, and it was always breaking. That's the way it should be in JTL I think.

I want to be able to buy a good chasis, and have it last me forever. The components though, well, that's the part that will really suck down the money. Han put a LOT of money and time into keeping his ship running, and I expect to do the same with my ship. But in all those years did Han ever have to go out and buy a new chasis because the falcon decayed down? No.

I very much agreed with a post a while back about selling the chasis cheap, and making your money on the parts. My scyk chasis was given to me by a shipwright in exchange for the materials. She wanted the xp, I wanted the chasis, I had the minerals, she did not. And now I will *ALWAYS* check to see if she has a part I need before looking anywhere else. I will always check her vendors before I even look on the bazaar. Even if her parts turn out to be *slightly* more expensive than others, I will buy from her (although so far they have been the cheapest).

(for those that want the name of my favorite shipwright: Gire, and Gorath. If you e-mail her, she'll do special orders. She also makes the best tailor stuff in my opinion.)

Why don't you just keep a private list and save that for when a correspondent is choosen? You don't really expect people not to discuss things on a...discussion board, do you? Don't worry about it--just keep your own list (unposted) until it's time to post it.

/agree, notepad is your friend in cases like this.
And quite a bit of these 'issues' need to be discussed before making them official issues.

Actually, I *do* expect people who claim to be interested in the shipwright profession to be able to distinguish between raising an issue and discussing an issue. Sure, I'll keep my private list, as will a bunch of other folks. Given the mob mentality here, what will happen when the correspondent posts "here is a list of issue - what else needs to go on the list?" If this thread is any indication, they will have an impossible job of trying to herd these cats.

Betatoxin, thanks for trying this - it appears that it was a noble but doomed effort.

People tend to take posts made by 'blue names' more seriously.
There will always be people posting issues that aren't really issues but rather things they want to see in the game for their own personal gain, people disregarding the original poster's requests etc. If 10 people, for example, post 'decay is too high' as an issue, and another 10 people post 'not enough decay', what then? A compromise must be made, and it's better to do it here than in an official correspondent's issue post.

What I'd recommend is that you disregard most of the posts in the thread (unless, of course, constructive) and just edit your original post to update it as a relevant issue comes up or the posters make a good change/addition to an existing issue.
