What the man just said.
To do good as a Shipwright requires alot of work. And research! There's few items I can't make better. Also a very important factor, is how you run your buisness!
I avoid doing custom jobs. I just toss up a massive stock.
People know they can come to my shop 24/7 and get what they need.
well Im not so sure the original poster implied that you couldnt make money as a SW selling things. I think his biggest concern is that a larger percentage of 'the best' things in the game are looted. I am not even talking good, but 'the best'. Having been a weaponsmith since the very first day the game went live (well i started grinding it then noone started per se lol), I know all about how the min/max mentality works. Players have a natural tendancy to seek out the absolute best items in the game and work to achieve them. This is not particularly a bad thing, however, when nearly all of 'the best' comes by way of loot and rewards well thats tough. As a pilot and shipwright I make my own stuff, infact I am not even a commercial producer of parts and outside my guild noone even knows I am a shipwright unless they happen upon my missle vendor in the guild mall. Missles are the only thing I sell to the public mostly because being a WS is more than enough work for me and I still have 2 other characters I like to play doing quests etc.
My point is, as a pilot, I now fly around in a adv Xwing using the RE level 6 reward engine (95 spd), the level 8 RE'd reward shield (2555 front/back 15.8 recharge 28k mass), a RE level 6 capacitor (1250 energy 42 recharge), a RE level 4 reward booster booster (2040 capacity 147 consumption), an RE level 8 reward blaster (3800 damage .68 vs shield/armor 12.8 energy/shot), two experimental blasters - crafted, markIV proton launcher - crafted, markIII reactor - crafted (14.8k reactor power), armor - crafted (680 armor 2.5k mass), and a mark 1 droid interface with 12.5 command speed - cant even craft these anymore.
you get the idea? Just about everything in here is a product of a quest reward. I am not saying I dont enjoy the hunt because I do. But it has the stigma of resignating a frequency to the viewer that looted parts are much better than crafted.

Stock your vendors! Stock your vendors!! Stock your vendors!!! I cannot stress this enough. My sales this month have been so high on my crafted components that I don't have time to RE at all. And this isn't just components, it's chasis as well. I don't know many Shipwrights who make several million credits a day that would consider themselves to be part of a dying profession!!
Keep the vendors stocked with GOOD merchandise and they will come.

My personal ships as well consist mostly of Looted parts.
But it takes alot of flying to get those. Alot.
The majority of the player base will never get such items.
