Just looking at these boards wondering whether to dump this as one of my proffs and i stumble across this quote used in defence of SOE shafting shippys with ROTW :-

"Thunderheart wrote:

Crafters craft the vast majority of player used equipment in the game. Crafted items will always have a high value and so will some loot."

This statement is correct for the ground based game but doesnt hold water in space.
I do not use a single crafted item in space at all, not even the ship.

I use quest reward ROTW and RE-d parts that i did myself.

When is SOE going to sort this proff?
Should they nerf all the old re'd loot?
Make is so crafted parts are better than loot drops (even when re'd)?
and how many other people dont use crafted items in space?

Loosing faith in the game

still requires a SW to do the RE'ing ... not the point, but i do agree with you.

I am an enthusiastic Shipwright and Pilot, and I have to disagree with you I am sorry to say. Now, not sure about the new ROTW quest rewards not being craftable, but they are a once per charcter reward, they will wear out eventually.

Where I disagree with you is the Loot Vs. Crafted argument. I think they have got the balance perfect here. With the right resources you can craft excellent off-the-shelf items that can be overcharged and decayed into the floor ready to be be replaced, and using high grade materials they rival mid range RE'd items and beat mostsingle loot items(Yes capacitors need some more love I won't deny it for a second) player made also have different areas of expertese. Crafted Booster have got the speed, Looted the burn time, Looted engines have YPR sown rightup for the light fighter, Playermade have insane speeds for the heavy fighter/bomber with its optimal turn-rate at half its speed ( or theplain racer fighter design)

Loot and reverse engineering exists so that you can spend weeks of hunitng or millions on bazaar trawling to create the ultimate fabulous perfect component you always dreamed off. But are never ever going to overhcrage for fear of hurting its precious stats. Just like you loot that legndary rifle with 4000 damage. they exists it beats a weaponsmiths wet dream. but the WS are still in business.

Yes we have a sell-once and thats it economic problme, and the market its glutted with cheap second hand chasiss, but its not as bad as architecht or droid engineer. We have problmes and they need to be adressed don't get me worng. but I say leave the loot/crafting relationship the way it is. They hit the nail on the head, the devs don't do it too often but I feel they got this RIGHT.

i use crafted motor, react'r ... shields ... gun for most all my ships ... tho i do still use looted caps and droid interfaces ... and basic tier 1 or 2 armor ...

i use a lot of refill packs for my missles and anti missle stuff ...

just loaded my YT with 2 of the new crafted guns for it .. as they are being made on par with the best looted lvl 10 items on my server...

I totally disagree with SW being a dying prof,in fact ROTW has given it a much needed boost.Since it's release I've done over 5mil in sales of ship parts with only 2 chassis sold.

Barma,

I've been so busy since the release of rotw that I don't even have time to mine resources to make the new related items or even fly. So I've actually lost sales because I don't have Mark III Mining lasers or Tractor Beams. Not too much in requests for POB items, but the few Heavy Chassis I was able to make didn't last more than one day.

The expanded datapad storage of ships, imho, is the #1 reason I've been so busy. It's so much nicer to have a ship with all the parts in it so you don't have topull something out of Ship A to put into Ship C.

The adjustments of some of the crafting stats has also made a big difference. I have sold more Engines and Capacitors in the last 1 1/2 weeks than I soldcombined intheprevious 3 months.

This rush reminds me of the early days of JTL.

My outlook remains positive even with the stupid skill tapes only dropping on the ground and the qwests for the new ships. At least for the qwest ships, they don't come with parts.

Just my thoughts,
Canaryville

I disagree as well. I'm a master pilot as well as a master shipwright, and I use many crafted components. In fact, the only loot/RE stuff I have are my engines, capacitor, and 1 gun. All the other stuff is crafted, either by myself or one of the other shipwrights on my server. My reactor, shields, 1 gun, booster, front and rear armor are all crafted. Maybe there is loot that can be REd to be better then what I have, but it's loot that I haven't found yet and until I do I'll use crafted stuff. And when I drop pilot to master one of the other faction squadrons, I'll go through three or four crafted chassis on my way to master. I don't believe Shipwright is dead. Sure, there's great loot out there, but you have to have the parts to run your ship until you find them, and you'll buy those from a shipwright. And when you have an REd part that decays and it's critical to running your ship, where are you going to get it replaced? A shipwright. As long as we're using the quality resources, and putting some real effort into our experimentation and trying different sub-components and generally trying to innovate and top our own best work, we can compete with much of the loot out there.

The CU and RotW have really boosted interest in space. I responded to a post similar to this one with my observations. I can't keep up with orders, especially those requiring asteroid resources. However, I don't mind because I charge 100 CPU for all asteroid resources that go into an item. I have heard noone complain about those prices. Fair is fair, it takes time to mine asteroid resources, and this is the way it has to be--my time is valuable.

OK just a few comments and thoughts

First isnt this string a bit behind the ball... I stop ground combat, the first time I tested the CU on the TS.

as far as crafted items... I have had certain items custom made to my specs.

I only fly crafted ships... because there mass isnt set and I have had people

want to know where they could get ships with such high mass.

I do agree they need to fix SW crafting because there are few crafted parts that can't be out done by REd parts.

They also need to increase the drop rate of loot parts if they arent going to make SW crafting better and

go back to the old system of REing where the % increase was higher.

Sure shipwright didn't get to craft all the new things that came with ROTW, just most of them. These are not the last things we will be able to craft either.

If we want to get on the subject of loot vs crafted again, I'd like to point out that as a pikeman pre-cu I had to buy looted pikes just to compete. Crafted were ok for minor pve, but for PVP I needed the multi million credit pikes with dots and all that. I never once asked for a player crafted pike. Maybe my perception was skewed, but.. that's the way it was then. I don't know about now.

Shall we not even mention the amazing boost to crafted engines? I'm selling a lot more of these now. Yeah maybe caps need an additional tweak, but they are still better than before.

We have more valuable items to craft and sell than many other professions. I too am very busy from the moment I log in to the moment I log out doing nothing but stocking the vendor and doing custom orders. I constantly amaze pilots with the results of player crafted ship components. They are shocked to find out their raw loot is actually often much worse than crafted.

Reverse engineering is another story. In my thoughts, I don't mind too much if that is better than crafted. It still involves a shipwright who might get a tip and requires only a component crafting tool to perform. Pretty much Zero overhead, compared to the cost of running my shop, vendors, harvestors, and time to sell crafted components.

What the man just said.

To do good as a Shipwright requires alot of work. And research! There's few items I can't make better. Also a very important factor, is how you run your buisness!

I avoid doing custom jobs. I just toss up a massive stock.
People know they can come to my shop 24/7 and get what they need.
