Confirmed. The parts need to be the same type (armor, engine, shield, etc) and RE level. There is some problems when you have (for example) 3 RE 4 Level 4 parts and try to drop in a RE 4 Level 5 part. Somewhere somebody posted you could make this work by changing the order you put them in the tool but I can't confirm that.

Ok, 2 questions come up after trying to get somemore loot items and talking to a shipwright to get them RE'd.
1. Does each component involved in the process have to have the same exact name? (Is that what you meant by type, Velneth?)
2. Which level affects how many items are needed to RE? The Component level, or the RE level?
Thanks again!

They have to be the same type (i.e. Shield), but not same name. The RE level has to be the same, but I'm not sure about cert level. I've seen a few pieces with different cert and RE levels. If you find a loot piece that doesn't have an RE level stat, it's already been reverse engineered.

Awesome to hear! My guilds' Master Shipwright had told me the same - that they must have identical names....... so that'll be GREAT to get the mass down on some of these high-lvl items... however, that means to RE a lvl10 item, it had DARN well better be worth more than 90k when you're done with it 'cause you'd get at least that from sell'n to the brokers

Ok, first I want to say thank you to all the shipwrights that have been answering my questions so patiently.
Second, after reading HythosSWG's post, it begs a new question. Why in the heck are some shipwrights in game telling us this? Was it that at one point in time the same name was required (like during beta or something) but was then changed? I'll have to make sure that I notify my guild's shipwright of this... not only will this make it easier on me, but it'll be easier on everyone else in the guild and on him too, I bet.
Once again, thanks a mill.

The certification level of a part is not always the reverse engineering level of a component.
There are a lot of cert level 4 items with RE level 2. (4/2)
now you can use a 2/2 or 4/2 or 5/2 etc as long as it's the same type ie Shield the name on item has no effect.
If you put the 4/2 part in analyzer first then a 2/2 part you will get a component that;
looks like the first part
has the same certification level as the first part (4 in examle)
Will also have the same name as the first part you put in if you do not change it.
So if you put the 2/2 in first then the 4/2 it will be a cert level 2.

Good to know! Not that I give my looted items to a shipwright, he RE's an uber-item, and tells me it was a fauilure, just so he can keep the uber-component...

He'd be more likely to just log off if he were going to steal something.
Also, could someone post the percentages? I know RE10 items net a 6% increase while RE1 items net a 1%...but could someone be so kind as to fill in the blanks for RE levels 2-9?
