Ummm I'd have to disagree with the original poster. Resource quality has a huge impact on quality- provided that you stay FAR away from chassis and stick to components. Forget chassis, that's where the market is floodedwith junkanyway. Pilots are starting to seek out quality ship parts, so hang in there and change your product base.

Agreed. Margin is much better on components, and we can actually craft some nice stuff.

Yep, my armor kicks butt right now. Same thing goes for my recent shields and engines, but I haven't mass produced those just yet (waiting on resources).

I feel bad for any SW using good resources to produce chassis. Right now chassis is the wrong business to be in and a waste of resources. This is my opinion until the Dev's tweak the chassis quality-to-mass ratio- which may never happen.

Because the resources don't make much difference we have a repeat of the artisans vehicle patch scenario. I'll bet my bibby thatsome of you former master artisans are cringing just thinking about that!!! Back then people mastered artisan just so they could mass manufacture swoops and undercut people using good resources. The # of hitpoints on a bike didn't matteras long as youkept it in good repair, so there was no point in buying a good swoop experimented to 95%- especially if it cost more. There were people selling swoops at 1cpu, and any artisan using good resources was S.O.L. and couldn't give their bikes away on the day of that patch.

Enter chassis where OQ doesn't mean much and you have the same sh!t sandwich all over again. I think anyone who witnessed the vehicle patch fiasco happen should have seen this one coming and stayed the hell away from the chassis market.

I make shields that outsell and outclass looted shields (not yet RE'd) all day long so I don't know what your talking about. I also make a killing off of reactors and engines but my heart goes out to you I guess.

I use high end REd loot almost exclusively. I have several capacitors which are no contest, as most admit that SW caps are awefull, but I have engines with high y/p/r AND high speed (not just the old prenerf quest engines), I have sheilds which are lower mass and higher hp than the shipwright sheilds Ive seen, my blasters totally outclass a SW blaster thanks to the stats vs armor / shields, I only use a level 2 booster so who cares if thats SW made or not its peanuts, my reactor is SW made but thats about all.

Shipwright is definetely geared towards custom fitting parts....

they come to you, tell you " I need a part below x mass, y energy use, and (other stat depending on component)"

However, I definetely agree, expecially on capacitors, some of the items we can craft don't compete well with looted items. Others, such as armor, the loot can't truely compete. However, in order to get a truely good looted component, you need to RE them. I have an amazing lvl 8 weapon in my ship. But none of the individual weapons I started with was really that amazing by itself. this is something else that pilots truely need to learn about.

I'm sorry to see you go, but I understand, and it's pretty much everyone's number one gripe with this profession.

Unfortunately all my attempts at getting this corrected are seemingly going unheard. Quite frustrating.

Maybe they have a secret plan to do....nah....They just have other things "More Important" right now.

I'm a patient man. I can wait for SOE to realize that Loot > Crafted when it comes to ship components.

This is completely opposite of the ground game. Only Exceptional and Legendary are really any better then crafted stuff.

Thats the point though, Looted > Crafted is simply not true in 90% of cases. Apart from Caps and Boosters, Ive only ever looted one item that was better than crafted, and that was a 40k mass, 29k gen reactor(level 8).

Do you have any idea how much effort it takes to aquire all the componants needed for ONE amazing RE weapon or shield? Well, unless your amazingly lucky, a feckton of effort. I have one(1) good blaster, it has high damage and high vs shields and armour, but its mass is horrific(well over 60k), its EPS is ludicrous at 51.7, and it has a reactor drain of 8k. Its level 10, and do you know how many level 10 weapons Ive looted that Ive even thought about RE'ing with that? None. Zero. Sure, I keep the junk ones to make up the numbers, but I still need to find a low mass level 10, a low EPS level 10 and a low reactor drain level 10 to get a decent weapon out of it, and thats only one componant out of an entire loadout.

Its entirely possible to get a ship which is, perhaps, 25-30% better than one with crafted gear, but only if you're willing to put in a huge amount of effort to hunt down the parts, especially now they've nerfed drop rates on higher level stuff, and have already nerfed ALL looted engines because of some Shipwrights complaints over one reward engine. Leave it alone, we're already plenty capable of making huge wadges of cash, let pilots have their fun, and if you're so worried about loot, charge people to RE items.

I really enjoy SW and I am almost master. The upside (and at the same time, the downside) is the resources required. The downside is obvious, but the upside is that i can gain a box in literally moments as long as i am able to scrounge up the resources. I like spending 5 minutes and make 230k in xp (provided it took me 2-3 days to mass the resources, but it frees me up to do other crap). Also, as many others have said, resource quality definitely matters in components. I only sell chassis because I am making them to get xp anyhow. I will stop making more (unless ordered) after master. I will probably make 1 of each master ship beforehand though, and keep them on my vendor in case. Just my .02 creds.
