Also kinda off topic, but one particular RE job I did comes to mind.

A player comes to me says, "Hey. Would you RE this stuff for me pls?"

I say sure, let me see the parts and then proceed to inform him about Pub 24 and fixing energy drain.

He says not to worry, he isn't too worried about energy drain.

Ok, cool. I RE the parts give him the final project, he says thanks and leaves.

Ten minutes later he asks me how much difference the energy fix would have made in his new weapon.

I tell him the 5% for the lvl 8 and all the OL commands that change it.

He swears a blue streak, not at me, but in general and says he wished he would have listened,

Again, kinda off topic, but a service that a "Station" could not provide.

Afew more ideas extending it to other professions.

    A) There should be a pre-programmed 'slicing' station.A Smuggler would need to place it, and could either 'load it with components' and charge a set fee per slice, or The customer would need to provide the components. The smuggler could set up a pricing plan depending on the level of the slice, and the customer just puts in what they need sliced. This would provide convienence for people that cant find smugglers, and it would be more secure.

    B) We should be able to Hire NPC Musicians and Dancers. Its such a pain to find an At the Keyboard entertainer nowadays, so when you want a specific inspiration, you should have this available to you, without having to socialize with other people.

C)We should have NPC Bounty Hunters that we can Hire. We would pay them a certain amount of credits (equivealent to maintenence) and equip them with weapons, and armor. Depending on how many credits you pay them - they could go up to master level missions. We would get the loots they got from their marks. This would save us fromhaving to look for a PC BH to buy the loot from we need.

    D) We should have something similar for pilots. We should be able to hire wingmen, to patrol around with us. If we decide we want to log for the night, they should continue for as long as their paid for, and the give us any of the space loot that drops.

Interesting idea (the RE station), but not really necissary.

Ways to find Shipwrights in game:

    • Search Function (select the profession / Title you need)

    • Bazaar. Look for crafted components, read the name of SWs off the components. Send him/her a tell, or mail if offline.

    • Planetary Map for ship components

    • Asking other pilots you know

    • Asking guildmembers

    • Shout in busy place if anyone knows an sw

I've been playing for 19 months now and it has never taken me more then an hour to find a master of any profession.

Try finding an ATK muscian at 3AM on a weeknight for a crafting buff...

Ena, note in my initial post that I'm not trying to bypass the shipwrite. I'm not an anti-social person that's afraid to talk to people.

HOWEVER, I'm not completely comfortable with the game mechanic of just giving someone a bag full of items either. On a small server it's difficult enough tofind a MSW in the off-hours. There's just not that many. And the 1 or 2 I might find, I have no idea who they are.So if you're against the RE Station, fine. But at the very least, make the RE have a window similar to the ID interface. i.e. I put my items in the window, the SW has the tool in his, and the RE is done without any item exchange. You could havean option for tips. If the SW wants to get nosy, look at the items, and provide recommendations, fine--he can look at what I have in the window. But I've been burned before in other games with trusting folks in item exchanges. ...and you also mention slicing. I have the same problem with that as well.

Would a "trade window" make folks happier instead?

A shipwright that burns people for parts isn't a shipwright for long. Word travels quickly and that shipwright soon finds no business.

The beauty of this game is that theft is severely punished when reported promptly.

Set up and confirm the deal in spatial (which gets logged by SOE). If you get burned send in a ticket. Logs will show the trade and the deal in spatial with no return trade. You'll get your items back, sw/smuggler gets a big problem.

I really like the idea! a fee to pay, and components lower than a certain level only. Most of the needed RE jobs are probably 6+ any, so SWs would still be neccessary. good thinking

Well, I am against any idea for any profession that does not require ATK. I can have a hell of a time finding an ATK musician but I am glad they are ATK not AFK. I have met alot of nice people this way and that is what the game is about for me. I tip quite well for the buff and they usually give me the names of their alts, fellow musicians and their alts, and so on. You see, I have a different attitude than they are used to. I understand that they are playing a game too and not there to serve only me when I want no matter what they are doing. I had to quit displaying my title because I could not take the tell hell from people with that attitude. Nothing more annoying than trying to help a friend with the Vette while obscene yellow messages scroll spacial because I use a joystick and can not take the time to /addignore.

Ask around and find a good SW. Then send him an email, not a tell. Even without my title, it is not unusual for me to be responding to 4 or 5 different tells at the same time. Weekends are the worst. If the SW comes recommended, I would not worry about not getting things back. I maintain a private RE vendor and it is not unusal for there to be millions worth of stuff on it priced at 1 credit. When customers offer parts for RE, I usually find that I have one or two components in my stock with better stats on something. I have around 2k of loot parts in stock. I get busy but my customers understand. They also understand I can not resist helping in space when I burn out on SW.
