Thread: WANTED--RE'n Stations

Problem: It can be difficult for pilots to connect with shipwrights for a RE'n job, especially on lightly populated servers.

Solution: Have a RE'n station that SWs can set up in their home, much like a crafting station. Allow it to have the skill of the SW. i.e. it couldn't be used to RE an item that was beyond the skill of SW. The intent isn't to bypass the SW. It's to make it easier for the pilots to get aRE job done when the SW is offline or unavailable.

Design Features: It could have an interface for the SW to collect fees--either a flat fee, or variable depending on the level of the item.

KSE schematics are a legit concern. My gut feel is that they should go to the SW. ...but I could handle it if there were a 0% chance to drop using these stations. (I'm a MSW myself on one server)

Maybe there's even a limit to what these stations can handle. i.e. only L6 items or lower. Anything else you have to go to a SW for. ...but I've been hung up for days trying to get a couple of items done, and that just doesn't seem right to me.

Thoughts?

You know what, I actually like that idea. Give it a user fee set by the SW and you are good to go.

Don't take this personally but you are incorrect about the solution to your problem. Locating players with a particular skill is the real issue here! Not finding ways to make professions obsolete. It is hard enough to grind out a profession without taking away all of the customers!

Communication! That is the key!

The way to solve this is to put an in game solution like this into SWG. Any time you need a service, you could go to any bazarr. A page would list all professional currently online! Their level would be shown as well so that one could determine if they would be high enough level to provide the service required. You can then send tells to these folks asking them if theyare willing toprovide the services that you require. Each professional would need a control to allow them to put themselves on "Do-no-disturb" during those times that they are online but not available to craft.

If we can find an easier way to match crafters and customers, everybody wins!

Interesting idea (the RE station), but not really necissary.

Ways to find Shipwrights in game:

  • Search Function (select the profession / Title you need)

  • Bazaar. Look for crafted components, read the name of SWs off the components. Send him/her a tell, or mail if offline.

  • Planetary Map for ship components

Have trouble hooking up for RE with your servers SWs due to time differences? Find one you trust, and make use of hidden / out of the way vendors, or private houses. My customers load each RE set into a pack, and offer it to my vendor for around 100 - 200K credits. I RE the item, place it back in the pack, and relist for the same number of credits. This vendor is unlisted and is a small trek off the normal shopping routes.

I'm afraid that to me this sounds like an AFK buffbot for shipwrights.

I think it is best to try other ways to find ATK shipwrights. Maybe post in trade forums, or take a look at the shops for your server on the shipwright locations sticky in this forum and find out who works there.

Try planetary chat or auction chat.

Try searching on the bazaar for well stocked well made ship parts and send emails to the shipwright who made them.

Land at every major starport and do a character search for master shipwright titles.

My guess is there are one or two shipwrights on every server that are online everyday for a good portion of time. It is all about connecting with them.

Wow, somebitter soundingSWs. Do you guys feel usless or something? This could actually generate more revenue for you and make your customers happier. You'll still have people selling you part and if you're anything like me, the custom orders would still come in.

Oh well, I liked it, but I also care about my customers.

Hmm, not sure where the impression that we don't care about our customers came in?

I care quite a bit about my customers. I work very hard to make sure we have parts in stock, and I'll do a re' job at the drop of a hat if someone contacts me or comes into the shop.

In fact we have 3 shipwrights working out of our shop to try and keep it well stocked.

Just personally for me, I prefer more player interaction.

What if the pilot goes to the machine, and doesn't really know much about re'ing stuff. Maybe they just got a really nice piece of loot, and since going to the machine is a lot easier than finding a master shipwright, they end up missing out on a fantastic re' job by putting 7 crummy loots with one really good one?

Then there is the possibility that people would prefer going to the machine rather than talking to the shipwright who is standing right there. That shipwright misses out on possible disk drop, since it is suggested that maybe the machine would have 0 chance of dropping a disk.

To me this takes the shipwright's special skill based ability out of the picture and makes it an automated machine.

These are just my personal thoughts and would in no way effect me adding this to a list of suggestions if the community feels they would like to have this.

I am a MSW and have RE'd several components, for myself and others, just this week alone.

I think this idea would take away from the profession, afk or not.

I do not charge for my services, so money is a non issue.

I feel, IMHO, this is something we can do without.

I like the Shipwright building idea better. Hint Hint, nudge nudge.

What I'd prefer is an alternate title available for master shipwrights:

"Reverse Engineering Specialist"

And make it so it's picked up anywhere in the galaxy when doing a /who/search/etc.

I have the MSW title on in case anyone wants RE's(I always have the CAT's on me so I can do them pretty much whenever I'm on and they find me), but I'm getting tired of all the people asking me for Heavy Fighters when I'm short THOSE resources.

Also, I myself am not so sure either it's sucha good idea to have a machine doing the work if certain things need to be explained to the user first(I HATE to see bad RE's due to lack of knowledge, , and most after hearing myexplanationsactually go "Oh...hmm, then I'll WAIT on that one", hehehe)

And undoubtedly, every shipwright at one point or another has had someone come by with an L10 gun and heard them say "I need this RE'ed" and trying to trade it over by itself(or maybe even a crafted gun, heh).

I've been playing for 19 months now and it has never taken me more then an hour to find a master of any profession.

I usually sleep at 3am on weeknights. I'll admit that if you're playing on off hours things might be a bit harder. Also, I'm on eclipse, lots of europeans (including me) there, so the "off hours" are very limited. So basically, I should shut up and move out of this thread

Hmm, I didn't sense any bitterness. Most of these SW's just don't like the idea. The idea of an ATK SW providing this service is a better customer service suggestion than someone hopping into a RE'ing station.

AFK entertainers is a great example. I would much rather pay someone that's helping me out and be able to talk to them, rather than go to an AFK toon, get what I need and leave without paying.
