Garbage. I could start a new character, not do ANY ground missions at all, and by the time I could fly it, I would have plenty of money to buy a tier II ship just from credit chits and selling looted parts. There is PLENTY of money in space.
part of the problem here is that SW is a rich mans profession. unless you have lots of friends willing to give you resouces and lots to harvest resources or have loads of cash with which to buy resources there is just no point to doing SW.
Both of these statements are another example of how everybody wants everything in this game without any playtime, let alone effort:
"It should all be available to me right away and free because I pay my $15 bucks a month dammit and I want to be Jedi and a Shipwright. Not in two months, NOW!"
To anyone who claims that SW is too hard to master, or that ships aretoo expensive, I say shut up and work for it, I'm getting sick of your constant whining. I was able to master SW quickly because I spent MONTHS leveling up to Master Architect and then worked my a$$ off as an Architect to make some money. Do the same instead of complaining how awful it is that you can't be a Master Shipwright two weeks after you install the game."
I did a lot of work towards becoming a master SW. I spent over 300k on harvesting resources, I did'nt buy any resources because i could'nt afford them. you say you worked yourbutt of as an architecht to make cash, all your doing there is proving my point that SW is a rich mans profession. only the rich will be a success.
I spent everyday,3-6 hours a day of a full month trying to master SW and in the end i had to give it up because i was not see'ing any return from where my cash was going. I work for a living so spending that much time to end up with nothing left a poor taste in my mouth.
I never said everything should be available to me straight away because i pay $15 bucks a month, you assume to much. I am currently working my way through pistoleer and combat med and am quite happy to do so, I'm having fun with both professions and dont care how long it takes me to master both because i'm having fun working on both and i'mslowly but surely making the money I wasted on SW back.
Three cheers to Gawzeera!!!
People don't have a clue what it takes to master the shipwright profession. I was fortunate enough to be accepted for early beta, and had some idea of what was coming down.My friends and Ispent thesix weeks before JTL went live harvesting resources and snagging good deals on some resources. By the time JTL went live, I had what it was going to take to grind master and start a viable business.
Now, I want to underscore to all the poor whining pilots that have no clue what it takes to master the shipwright profession.
5,948,000 units of resources!!!
Think about that figure for a brief moment. Even if you could purchase those resources at 2 CPU (which was the going rate for grinding quality resources at the time), it would have cost you 11,896,000 credits to grind the profession. And let's be realistic, you really do have to grind this profession, because noone wants to buy novice quality components.
And for those pilots that have never run a crafting business, you need to understand that we have overhead. The maintenance on structures and factories and harvesters. The energy requirements of factories and harvesters. It all adds up pretty fast. Once every 30 days I have to go around to all my structures and dump about 600K into maintenance.
Also, please spare me the, "Oh my gods, you crafters don't know how easy you have it. You have all the money in the game. You don't have any real expenses." Spare me, because my other character is a combat-type. I know how much armor costs. I know how much weapons cost. I know how much food costs. I know how much buffs cost. However, if I visit the armorsmith, weaponsmith, chef, and doctor forums, I don't see combat players posting their complaints regarding the prices of those respective professions. So please do the collective body of shipwrights in this game a favor, and keep your whining and complaining confined to the pilots forum (I have no idea what I just did, as I am an avid pilot too).

I completely disagree with SOE's reasoning for introducing this ship and your statement that this is a "rich man's profession". There are many ways to start a character from scratch, without any help from friends, and have a thriving character within a month of medium play (i.e., 10-20 hours a week).
For snicks and giggles, I started a character from scratch, without any help from friends or alts, and worked up to the point where I could make my own heavy harvesters--I didn't even buy a single item (including resources or harvesters). My goal was to experience what the first players on the server must have experienced, and I found it quite fun. After two weeks I had made my first heavy mineral harvester.
The point I'm trying to make is that this is a game, and giving away items like hyperspace-capable, upgradeable ship detracts from the fun for everyone.
Given SOE's reasoning, do you think that maybe they'll start giving away heavy harvesters to new players so that they can develop a source of income? Same mentality, right?
While I will not subscribe that this is a "rich man's game", as anyone with an ounce of motivation can make a ton of credits in this game. I will admit that this is not a game for a casual player (i.e., less than 10 hours per week).

90% of shipwrights are NOT overpriced, people are just expecting us all to make a loss.
Gouging 5-6 cpu on average resources means that those wrights that buy in resources will charge you a minimum of 5-6 cpu on all items (Duh...go figure).
Personally, I could not give a stuff if new players get another free ship, more power to them, I don't sell chassis as a rule because some people moan that im gouging them on the price (yes, mr non-master down the road is cheaper, the ship is NEARLY as good, and hes making a loss to get to master), it takes too many of my precious nice resources that most of my customers need me to make into systems. Most of the time there is nothing wrong with these ships, and the only time I can actually see a need for a master crafted ship is when you have a specific mass requirement (or need a master ship).
As for the rest of it, im charging 2.5k for a crafted MkI item through to 50k for MkV, I use the best resources I can find. There are plenty of other shipwrights about that have somthing similar going on price wise. I still get people complaining that this is too expensive (A MkV blaster, with enhancement takes 7.5k resources to make....go figure)
