Great points everyone. It all comes down to pilot's intention. If going up against a player, better have good PYR...
And Ducimus, great engine, thanks for response.

Goraf do you have a formula you can share for calculating the DPS for ship weapons? I would be interested in applying it to my current weapons loadout in my Krayt. I may have some other REs that would be higher DPS based on some subtle dfferences in Vs and refire stats. Would appreciate any comments you have on making those calculations . Thanks!

GOOD RE is better than crafted. You can just stick parts in the tool, and expect the result to beat crafted. For example, take the reward Incom tri-cannon.
Damage: 2387.7-3692.0
Vs. Shields: 0.625
Vs. Armor: 0.625
Refire: 0.425
That works out to an average of 4469 damage per second if you are holding down the trigger.
Now, an Experimental blaster with quickshot upgrade. With slightly better resources, I could do a little better, but this is what I personally use:
Damage: 1909-3092
Vs. Shields: 0.499
Vs. Armor: 0.499
Refire: 0.256
That works out to an average of 4874 DPS.
The well REd level 8 above works out to 5525 vs. shields and 5607 vs. armor. It is also a lot lighter than a crafted experimental blaster. A very good blaster indeed.
Now, if you want 3 of these for an Advanced X-Wing or Kryat, you are going to have to either do 3 squadrons or buy 2 reward blasters, as well as loot minimum 21 RE level 8 blasters. Even with that many, I doubt there will be enough good ones to make a good level 8 blaster, so plan on at least 30. That takes quite a while. Basically, why I use experimentals on my Kryat...
With a few exceptions: GOOD RE > crafted > bad RE > loot
You have to collect lots and lots of parts to create good RE jobs. Many times I have talked to people complaining that they cannot find good REd components for sale. There is a reason for that! Any good REd components are in use on the Shipwright's ship already.

RE'd parts can be better but... it can take MONTHS to loot the right parts for an uber RE job. One day I am going to RE my Nym's starmap quest engine. So far I have been unable to loot anything decent to RE with it. Roughly 95% of all ship loot is crap and finding the diamond in the rough can take forever. When you do find the diamond though... it feels wonderful.

The original thread on this is here
DPS = (min+max)/2 / refire * vs
So (1909+3092)/2 / 0.256 * 0.499 = 4874.
Upon reading the linked thread, that refire might get rounded to 0.26 when you load the gun.
I guess I need some slightly better resources to hit 0.254 so it will round down.
DPS = (min+max)/2 / refire * vs
So (1909+3092)/2 / 0.256 * 0.499 = 4874.
Upon reading the linked thread, that refire might get rounded to 0.26 when you load the gun.
