Most of this is only from my observations and none of it has been confirmed by other players. Please feel free to confirm or deny of this by testing it also.

1) So far I have found the disk 6/8 is the hardest to get. Where as I have found doubles, triples and quads of other disks. I have only gotten one 6/8 disk and my analysis tool ate it when I tried to combine. This maybe a "by the server" situation, where each server is different on which disk is hardest to find. Would love someone to help confirm or deny this.

2) Keep your disks in your main inventory. I have tested this and I am less likely to get a duplicate disk if they are in my main inventory. Except where disk 6/8 is concerned.

3) Do not remove any RE'd loot you have done from your inventory until your done with all the inventory of parts. I know it sounds far fetched but I have found I get more disks if I keep the items I already RE'd in my inventory.

4) For me the luck of finding disks seems to come and go in waves. I will have an hour of finding disks then several hours, up to a day or more, of finding nothing. Sometimes I will find 2, 3 and once even 4 disks back to back with each RE I do. Then 3+ hours of nothing. This tells me that finding a disk isnt completely random and more based on increased chances with each piece you RE. Once you reach a certain point, you will find disks and the chance factor will decrease.

5) Kuat Systems Engineeringparts are supposed to be the best chance to get a disk. I have found most of my disks on Incom and Mandalmotors parts. I would say 50% at least. This may be different from server to server.

6) Logging doesNOT seem to make the chance better. In fact I find it will kill any "good runs" I am having.

7) Sacrificing a live chicken while wearing a bra on your head is supposed to help increase the chance as well but I cant confirm this as I am not allowed live poultry in my apartment. I did try it with a bucket of KFC but only got a disk for a free small order of cole slaw. They dont seem to mind me running around with a bra on my head though. hmmmmm.

Hope this helps everyone.

When you're looting items off mobs you're not dealing with a database table of only 8 possible items you can ever loot either. Narrow down things to the same 8 items you're looking for and only those items, go on a killing/looting frenzy and see if you get the same 'salt and pepper' results over the course of a few days....I'm pretty sure you won't, and instead you'll see results closer to what you're seeing now with the RE process. Also, you're assuming just because your luck is running a certain way that that establishes a certain pattern. To go back to the casino analogy, you're making the same mistake many gamblers make as well, particularly slot players. Slot machines useRNG's, and many times they toogivea hit or three close together followed by "3+ hours of nothing". Butknowledgable slot playerswill tell you that this isn't aset 'pattern'; sometimes things just fall that way and over the long haul sometimes there are other suchseemingly 'mini patterns' in play. The point here being, 'random' is still in play regardless of what results you see, because 'random' doesn't follow any set guidelines as to when or how often you're going to see positive results. The definition of 'random' is not 'evenly spread out over time', but rather 'lacking a definite plan, purpose, or pattern'.

First your dealing with a computer. A logical device. I have attended several conferences and courses that discussed the topic of "Are computers capable of being completely random". The general consencus is that "No they cant be completely random". With a computer using a simple random number generator you get one of two things a steady set of numbers or a severe bellcurve. Here is an example. And one they used at one computer conference.

Take a simple random number generator. Have it give 1000 numbers between 1 and 10. One of two things will most likely happen.

a) The numbers are equally generated. 100 Ones, 100 Twos, 100 Threes, etc. Or something very close to that.

or

b) You will get a huge bell curve where the middle numbers 4, 5, 6, and 7 will be generated alot more. 5 and 6 will be the most.

Its a fact that a computer can not be truely random. Because it can not think randomly.

Now it doesnt matter how many of the items dropped are available. The 'hit' that the mob has loot is different from the 'hit' on what kind of loot. If they had programmed a random number generator to go through each and every item to get a 'hit' or not it would take so long as there are literally tons of possible items for it run through. So the shortest and less stressful program would be one with sub tables. First a number is generated to see if there is loot. Then a second is generated to see what kind of loot.

Since we are talking about the chance for loot and not the chance for what kind of loot my theory still stands. And I have continued testing it last night and into today. I get disks approximately every 3 - 4 hours of steady REing. I predicted a disk coming with in 5 REs successfuly. I looked at the clock and noted 3.5 hours had passed since I had got a disk. I then said I would get a disk in the next 30 minutes. And 5 REs later I got another disk. I did this again another3 hours later and was close by 9 REs. This to me just shows how "unrandom" the looted disk system is.

As the definition of random is 'lacking a definate purpose, plan, or pattern' then by that definition and the fact I have a pattern proves its not random.

But its something I will keep testing to see just how patterned it is. I have begun keeping track of each disk, what loot it came from, and what time in game I got it.

This parallels the NPC loot, btw. I've watched my inventory while macro'ing mummers and such, and I've definitely seen SEA/loot kit stuff in brief waves, followed by periods of nothing or the usual trash. I was thinking they're using a time-seeded random number generator.

When reengineering, are you doing 1 part at a time or combining them, say 5 level 5 parts?I guess what I am asking is that if you arereengineering 5 level 5 parts at once, does that equal 5 chances to get a disk or just one?

It's random - completely random.

This thread reminds me of the Jedi and Slicing theory threads.

I had the experience of getting things in waves.

First day after launch RE'd about 100 components got 3 fragments. Thought this was gonne be easy. All just level 1 and 2 stuff.

Second day, about 70 more components one more fragment.

Past 5 days, about 200 components, much more level 3 and 4 stuff. Not a single fragment.

Right now I have 1,5,7,8.

Smugglers are very familiar with this phenomena. We call it astreak. Slicing is very streaky. But in the end it turns out to be completely random.

I am not talking about probability. I am talking about chaos.

Case in point. Since my last post, in this thread,I have found5 disks. All5 were disk 2/8. Random? Look at the odds. First of getting5 disks. Then of getting all5 disks the same. Lets focus on getting5 disks all the same. Each chance is 1 in 8. But as you go on the odds change to getting the same disk. Like rolling an 8 sided dice 5 times and getting all "2"s. I would love for someone do the math on this to figure the exact odds of this. I think that last disk being 2/8 was somewhere around 30,000 to 1 odds.

Also I got all 5 disks in a one hour period. Since then I havent found anything.

The intention could be for it to be random but computers can not be random. They come close but there is always a pattern somewhere. It may take millions of generations to see the pattern but it is there. The day computers can be truely random is the day they become self aware.
