Thread: Factory Petition

Factories are only a plus for those who are mass producing. The only thing I make in a factory are the missle and counter measure packs. The rest is only made by customers wishes. I don't even stock up my vendor with ship components except for Tier0 and Tier1 and also only reactors.

Wait. Painting and texture kits are also made by my factory. I thought about to factory craft component upgrades but I don't really see a reason for that.

So, for my point of view. The factory support which shipwrighter have by now, is perfectly.

cheers

Good point.

For now we can use bags and vendors though.

Still it would be nice if players could 'crate' items.

factory support (the lack thereof) is exactly why i am a shipwright. here's a vote for NO factory support other than the current setup.

I've voted 'no' to factory support for components. Only thing I would comprimise on would be armor, I could see a good market for crates of armor.

i used to be anti-factory, being a small time SW. (on my alt)

but i DO think now, there should be an option to make very small runs of say 5-10 componenets, why?

Well a few nights ago, i sat down and crafted about 10 -15 reactors trying to get a certain combination of mass and output. i finnaly got it. the rest of them were kinda wasted. Butafter all that , i am left with one component!

so yes, otoh it wasmade specificly for a certian config, but it was a really nice reactor. as it is, we need to compeat with loot.

so i propse again what seems to be a very good comprimise, let us make runs of 5-10 components. this has been proposed by others and i thinkn its a great idea. who will set the number? well logic i guess. or me it seems that 5-10 wont flood anything, but still make it worth for me to really try and get that perfect someting, and still have a few to sell or give out.

COMPRIMISE guys, we need to COMPRIMISE

I think what bothers me the most is that our correspondent knows the reasons why the devs made shipwright factory-less, but cant tell us.. So why even tell us he knows at all??? Its a complete disservice to the people he represents.

Geez, lay off the correspondents, they got a hard, crappy job and they get little appreciation from players or from developers. If you want to complain about something, complain about the devs. They're the one's who control what the correspondents can and can't say.

The complaint is 2 fold.. For both of them. If he knew he couldnt tell us then he shouldnt have told us he knew....lol.. Not sure if that made sense.. Thishas left many of us who want that answer with our hands and a dumb expression on our faces..lol Stop telling us you have information you cant tell us......

Maybe he didn't realize he wasn't supposed to tell us...until it was too late. Really, it's a little thing to get steamed over.

I'll tell you my theory on why shipwright doesn't have factory support. As I've pointed out in a couple of other related threads, almost every other crafting profession requires sub-components to make a finished saleable product. And most of the time, the quality of the sub-component affects the quality of the final product. This added complexity helps to reduce the level of production.

However, designing, implementing and testingsuch a complex crafting systemtakes time...lots of it. But the devs were running short on time to get JtL out. It'd been over a year with no expansion, so they probably had customers and Sony execs breathing down their necks. Plus they knew WoW would be coming out soon...any guesses to how well JtL would havesold if it would have been released after WoW?

So the devs created a very simplified crafting system that would require minimal testing (that may be why the artwork for the sub-components look exactly the same as the artwork for the finished products...not enough time to make new artwork). Unfortunately, shipwright crafting is so easy (resource quality not-with-standing) that there was a very real danger of over-production. The devs probably also reasoned that there were thousands of veteran players who had been saving up resources in anticipation of JtL for months (how many people mastered shipwright within an hour or two of installing JtL?).

So to counter-act the potential of over-production, the devs removed factory support to prevent a flood of easily produced, high quality products from hitting the server. Shipwright would have been killed within a couple of weeks, maybe even days, if factory support had been enabled on day one. As it is now, things are bad enough. Factory support will only make the economic situation for shipwrights worse.

This is one of my reasons for wanting factory support. At least add armor to it...... I would be happy if they added armor to factory support and left the rest alone.

Once again, people are using armor way to much because a lack of understanding of what they could do with their ships. If you are always making armor, you might want to start educating some pilots on the abilities of shields. If they are trying to solo every tier 4 mission, well, they are going to be frustrated no matter what and need friends to help and realize, they are just causing themselves more money and down time.

The reason for factory support to me, IMO, is that there is not enough info on what pilots really could use in there ships and way to many thinking the wrong way. If you want factory runs only on armor, there is something wrong. Trust me, i rarely have to repair my armor and it take on a lot solo, and many of times got close to being shot down, but i am learning how to build my ship to be almost perfect for me.

On other thing that bothers me is that there are way to many crafters that think or feel that they have to constantly supply the server. You are not resposible for that. Take a lesson from armorsmiths. When they run dry on their vendor faster than they can stock, they raise the price to calm the sales down so they can meet the demand with their limited supply. No where am i saying to price gouge, but saying, don't kill yourself and burn out because everything you throw on the vendor sales. You might also being bought out by another SW who turns around and resales your stuff at a higher price too.

So, if your excuse is that you can't keep your vendor stocked is why you need factories is not a valid excuse, you might be just the lowest priced SW so of course you will be always sold out. We do not need to be like the other crafting professions, we just need to learn what are profession can do first. And we are no where near our true potential.

The reason I am interested in factory support is not from a crafting standpoint, more of having the finished item in crates. I understand how armor and ships work very well. I still would like to be able to keep a crate of 4 or 6 backups on me for the 2 (on privateer characer) and 2 (on rebel pilot) of Mk 3 armor rather then a bunch of singles.

I no longer produce anything other then droid chips and paint/texture/repair kits, so I could care less about keeping a vendor stocked.

I can understand that. I am warming up to it more. I just would like Armor added to it.
