Thread: Customer Pricing for Re-Engineering..

I only really RE for guildmembers and friends, but if I were to RE for the public I'd probably do that for free as well, on the stipulation that if a Kuat disk popped out I'd get to keep it. The way I see it, I'm providing a service for free; if they want to keep Kuat disk fragments they should just take up shipwright. And I'd be upfront about that stipulation, too. They can always go to another shipwright if they don't like it.

I have a question.

If you did a RE & were lucky enough to receive a Firespray fragment....

1) Would you tell the person you were REing for?

2) If that person was paying, would you give it to them then, as they are paying for the service?

Not trying to peeve anyone here, just curious to see how it is handled. Thanks

To answer your question. I was exactly in such a situation (made a posting about it).

1) yes I tell the customer that I got a disc
2) yes I give it back, because he payed me for the reeng.

Today I don't charge anymore for reengineering but I make a deal with the customer before I start reeing. If I find a disc, I keep it but I don't charge. If he wants the disc, than I charge 5k per level of the reeing.

cheers

I don't "offer" an RE service. If someone flags me down, I'll do an RE for free, if I have the time.

IF I were to get a frag out of it (happens so rare when doing it for myself) the frag is mine, plain and simple. If they ask I'll tell them, otherwise it's not their business.

They came to me asking me to combine a collection of comps into a decent single peice, that's what they expect in return, and that's what they get in return. Frags are *the shipwright's* bonus, plain and simple.

Giving it to the *customer* (who isn't paying) would be like paying someone 100x the value of what they buy to come shop at your store.

For regular customers, I do it for free. Usually these are the same people that have been bringing me space loot to help with geting discs anyway. Occassionally, they get a sweet part that they want to use. No problemo. Good Will > All.

I would offer to buy the fragment at whatever agreed upon price we had for the RE job. This would be made clear before the job.

Thanks for your replies. All answers sound fair.

I was just wondering how to approach a SW about it. I would have no use for the disk except to auction it. Would it be rude to ask for a small discount on the purchase of a Friespray if the SW got a disk and latergot all of the disks? Say 3-5% or so?

Thanks again

Well tbh, I haven't gotten my full disk yet (6/8 so far) and considering that when I do, I won't know if it's 3 or 6 until it gives up the ghost.... and the demand... I'm inclined to auction those that don't go to guildmates should they want them. (I don't want a FS).

IF on the other hand I were to get a disk from a customer RE job, and it was "the last" I needed, I might be inclined to offer him one (at a fair price for a 'rare' ship) before it went to auction, provided it wasn't on this, my first FS bp.

Otherwise... it's as I said in my previous post. Giving even a 3% discount on something that typically auctions for 5mill minimum is still 150k; if I wanted to do that I'd just go buy the disk for 100k myself (better chance of finding that than getting it from an RE job...)

I tend to tell customers that there is no charge, but tips are welcome. Of course, if they start to take advantage, I have to charge them a fee.

For me I tend to tell them up front if a KSE fragment comes out I get it and then charge nothing. Every time I have done it the people have agreed to that and after its done they have tipped me reguardless just asa thank you for the time. If the player does not agree to letting me have the segment if it comes out then would charge them for the service. But so far everyone has agrred with that and have always been intrested to see if I did get the segment from it. Besides when you RE for someone and if talk a bit as you do it could be building good will and a potential customer down the road.

I sell RE'd items on my vendor for 5k per level. I advertise that I will pay 1500cr per level for un-RE'd parts (better than chassis dealer).

Guild-mates get my RE'd components for free, since they are the major source of loot for me. The understanding is that I keep any fragments (esp. since I am the only SW in the guild).

I do not fly my Shipwright flag in public, so I have not yet been stopped very oftenon the street to RE Joe Blow's loot item. If it were to happen, and that person were supplying all of the components necessary, then I would do it for free with the understanding that I keep any disk fragments. If I have to supply any components myself then I go back to 5k per level and still keep the fragment if it drops.

Very similar to my WS business where if someone brings me a Scythe schematic, he gets one finished item fee and I keep the remaining uses to sell on my vendor.

I've only done 1 RE for a friend so far.

That was free.

If I was getting 20+ requests a day, I would probably charge a bit.

So how would all you SW's who charge 5k per lvl feel if players charged you the same 5k per lvl for the loot parts? You do get SW xp right?
