Actairr:

what kind of crafter are you?

If you're an armorsmith with a good stock of matierials then you already have 50% of the quality materials needed for shipwright production-AS uses a lot of OQ/SR/UT material and so does SW.You would only need to collect materials for grinding shipwright, a few tons of high-conductivity steel and the unique SW materials like gravitronic fiber, polymetric radioactive, ferimonic ore, etc.

I was an armorsmith when I switched to SW and I had a very easy time of it.

There seems to be a market for high-quality ship parts, if you use good resources and subcomponentsthey are usually better than almost all the loot you find, with the exception of capacitors and boosters.

I actually am not a crafter at all. I am a swordsman/doc about to turn Jedi and was thinking this would be nice for my alt to be. I am gonna give it a try, we will see how it goes. I just realy get sick of seeing crappy parts around, and I want to be able to really customize my own ships.

If your SERIOUS about piloting and are VERY picky about your ships and want to do what you want, when you want, how you want, then picking up SW is worth ii.... if you have 10 million credits and have nothing else to do with them and already have everything you need. Going SW is the only way to get what you want to further your piloting goals unless you have a buddy who already is a SW and has the patience to put up with you

there has been a decline in populations of players and in shipwrights.

mainly because busines has decreased due to the vast amount of resources needed and little factory support.

I am one of the few SWs on Bria with a stocked vendor and sales are still very good and improving. The market is jsut stabalizing after JTL launch.

I am the only one of four shipwrights left in Insurgo, Naboo (Kettemoor) and business has been extremely light recently. I'm planning on opening a merchant tent in one of the more heavily travelled area of the galaxy to see what it does for my sales. I think alot of people (on our server) have gone back to the ground game while being frustrated with not being able to complete the tier 4 and master pilot missions solo. A recent survey of my guild showed that most of the pilots were 3/3/3/3 or below because they couldn't do the rest alone.

JTL stops being fun when you hit tier 4. Most of the pilots in my guild seem have given up after failing thier 1st or 2nd tier 4 repeatedly. My friend and I did all of our JTL missions together and tier 4 stillstopped us cold.

Since I've recently been made the Squadron Commander for my guild, it's been my job to get our pilots back into space. In some cases it's been like pulling teeth. Tier 4 mission simply left that bad a taste in mouths of all our pilots.

The tier 4 missions are still tough, even with at least4 of us plugging away at them. At least I am gradually getting everyone moving again and have helped several people make 4444. One of these days we will have to go after the corvette en mass. Who wants to bet it won't spawn for us?

perhaps the devs should add general Starfighter missions to the faction mission terminals or add full blown Starfighter Mission Terminals. Also allowing player cities to host a starfighter port (perhaps residents only or residents only plus a fee for visitors?)

I don't know of a currently producing Shipwright, and I'm about to drop my shipwright profession with a new template design. It was a collosal waste of time. JTL itself seems to have died an early death. The profession of Shipwright was a hollow and unenjoyable experience, on a level unlike any other crafting profession I have played.

Observations:

  • Shipwright took far too many resources to grind, and takes far too many resources to maintain, too many to store (with storage so obscenely limited,) was a hog, is a hog, takes too much effort in harvesting and acquiring resources
  • Ships do not decay and do not need replacement
  • A crafting profession that does not allow a player to make great stuff, is no fun

    • Quality resources are non-existant, month after month of garbage spawns
    • Unlike other professions' components, a shipwrights components' stats are spread out, for example, 25%/25%/25%/25% with no stat leading the quality
    • Lack of quality differentiation in experimenting

  • RE'ing is a quagmire of storage problems (ie. storage continues to be a major source of grief for players who also craft), is a quagmire of too much work for too little reward. We've had players who have never, after thousands, and thousands of RE'ing, have gotten a single whole set of Firespray discs. It's work with no payoff
  • Sales of parts and sales of RE parts is non-existant; most people who are still flying just collect various parts and have a shipwright RE them ready to go in their own tool. The shipwright has simply become a person who gets a /tell that says, "hey i've got 10 parts, can you RE them for me? Where can we meet?"
  • Though the devs have done many things to reduce prep time in the game, to speed up people's ability to get out there and enjoy the game, they still haven't done enough, including all the busy work around storage management, and people don't have time or interest in JTL. It's already being reduced to a means to travel quickly between starport. Of all the JTL enabled peeps in our guild, I think 3 still fly. Most have not flown in a LONG time.
  • SOE says "the ground based game and the space game are separate," and recent words from SOE around theGCW indicate that they're going to be merged into a seamless experience. OK, so currently shipwright crafting xp doesn't count towards FS, when will that be remedied in fairness to the shipwright, a crafting profession like any other?

So, ya, no shipwrights, they gone, and I'm quitting it myself.

hey, if the pilot gets his ship shot up really really badly, the ship decays... you can only patch/repair so much before you might as well replace the components..... right?
