We do have limited factory support. You can mass produce sub-components like armor reinforcement panels, max-damage intensifiers, etc. You can also use a factory to make crates of missles and paint kits. There are quite a few things you can use a factory to make. I have two equipment factories running everyday for subs and missles.

so your saying that we do not need factory support for final products? because we do need factory support for all items

The reason why the devs didn't give us factory was two fold:

First, the devs didn't want the Shipwrights with guilds and/or player cities providing support to have an advantage over the small businessmen that had no player support.

Second, the devs wanted to push this "customer order" relationship on pilots and shipwrights. This is also the reason why schematics have so many experimentation tracks. The devs were looking for shipwrights to differentiate through manual crafting.

my $0.02 on factory support:

I would like to see it, but *ONLY* for our low-level (and pretty much only *ARMOR*) parts. Basically, factory support for Mark I and Mark II parts would be lovely, as I rarely craft level 1's as they're just as time intensive to craft as Mark III, IV, and IV, though they take resources, so for effort/price ratio on crafting, they're pretty much not worth it. I do stock some to keep customers happy, but nowhere near what I'd like to have on hand *just in case*.

And since Mark II armor is one of my biggest sellers, it's just annoying to re-stock sometimes, though I'm quite thankful for factory support on sub-components.

I guess I'd be happy with support for just Mark I components too, as I really don't have much a problem crafting Mark II's.

I have to put a vote *against* factory support for everything else though, I enjoy trying each time for the best I can make on higher components. Everything over Mark III should be crafted by hand, in my opinion (though again, factory support for sub-components is nice, especially to get parts that are identical in stats with great success all around, helps to get matched weapon sets, etc.)

But, if we could not pick and choose what to get factory support over, if it's an all or nothing issue, I would say a resounding 'NO' to factory support, as it will keep high-volume price gouging out of our professin, which is fine by me.

I've been a shipwright since JTL and a friend of mine hit master early on. Neither of us use nor need factories for more than missiles and paint kits. It does take alot of resources tocrank out chassis, and I dont see that being something I would ever want to make factory runs on. It would be nice to have full factory support for making limited runs of some components and having a crate of armor plates or missile launchers, etc.

Full factory support would be nice to have, but not critical. Perhaps it would be nice if we got it, but had a limit on the number of items we could run off of a schematic, perhaps 100 instead of 1k items. Gathering the resources to run off 1k of anything is kind of mind boggling to me anyways. And I agree that mass production on that scale would just hurt the other shipwrights out there, as well as the players.

As it is now, you can differentiate the items made as to where the experimentation points are spent. My friend likes to spend his points making missiles with more damage whereas I spend some points making the packs hold more missiles then on increasing the min/max damage, it provides variety and our customers can choose which is more important for them, for example.

If somebody out there started making mass runs of things other than missiles (which sell faster anyways) then you could have one shop on a server selling a generic shield generator on a large scale and forcing a decrease in the competition. I prefer that we did not have full factory support, just so we dont have some players setting up a "wal-mart" for their mass produced goods and decreasing shipwright competition for a limited customer base.

(edited this to break it into paragraphs, It was too blocky)

OK, you asked why we don't have it. I have seen some replies that talk about why they do want it. In my opinion, the only reason we should have more factory support is for those rare crafting sessions that we experience 3+ amazing successes. However, cranking a manufacturing schematic out with a item count of 1000 defeats the devs' goals. Thus, if they were to give us manufacturing support for these circumstances, they would need to limit the run to 10-24 items (and the lower the number the better). In addition, I still don't think ship chassis should recieve any kind of manufacturing support.
