Thread: ShipWright factorys, a compromise.

The only factory craftables I care about are the high rate consumables that apparently don't factory:

Missile/Countermeasure *packs* (not the launcher, just the expendables)
Reverse Engineering tools
"Customization Kits"

Things of that ilk I would like to be able to factory because in 1 flight you'll burn through a good missile pack, countermeasures take a bit longer. RE Tools just to make my limited playtime a little better (and only shipwrights use them anyway). Customization kits, well less important, but still a hassle.

Now components and so on, fine, let them be hand-made. There will be a lot less of them, but sure run the lot-swapping afk'ers out if that's what you want. You've also raised the price, no skin off my back, that everyone will charge. Personally I don't mind making it tougher for the lot-swapping afk'ers.

Remember the really big cost in an MMORPG, unless it's an uber rare loot/resource, is time.

Just my two pence.

I would like to see us be able to use factories for everything. The people who wanted to hand-craft would still be able to do so.

But at this point we are all guessing what the business is going to look like. We know that the next 2-4 weeks will NOT be the "norm" in the shipwright business.

I think that we should just go ahead and build our businesses and serve our customers as best we can. Let's see if the Shipwright corresponent can get us some feedback on what the Devs were thinking about in making their decision. Then in a couple of months we can re-open the discussion based on some real experiences and facts.

I must agree with this person as well. I too will be waiting the trend of this profession to take its toll as well. I know that a ton of people will become a shipwright at first because its new and new stuff to build, however I also think many people doing this will tend to fall off just because. I think that the devs put in place a program for a specific purpose no we have to wait and see where it goes. I will be watching this thread drastically and hope to become a big contributor to it as well soon. I will be focusing on my shipwright account from here on while also playing my fighter some as well.

My main concern at this point really is not factories, yet I am hoping that the devs lowered the loot ratio dramastically from beta. As you all know who were in beta you could generally loot better stuff than you could actually build. So if thats still the case (which I doubt it is) then we would all hurt for business in the long run! So heres to hoping to see our new correspondent soon and get some stuff accomplished !

Second day being master....

I have more looted components coming in, than componentsI can make. I recieved over 150 looted items... What this is telling me is that those "better" components will be more abundant then crafted ones...

Of course this is just the second day and everyone under the Tat sun is trying to get a piece of me, but this just further confirms that we need factory support for everything but the chassis. For every chassis I make, I have to craft 7-8 parts for it.

One last time.... Without factory support, crafted components will be more rare that looted ones.

I agree... If we don't get factory support this is gonna be lame. Pieces take too long to make, tons of clicking, customers seeming to think we are walking game manuals... oh man, anyone else feel seriously over welmed today? And having to hand craft everything just makes it so much more teadious... I could go back to being a chef and make a lot more money with a lot less effort

And the freakin manual says stuff can be turned into schematics... I just hope this is a serious over looked bug.

I also like that compromise proposed... I like that really... I don't see myself making hundred and hundreds of module items. Maybe 50 of a kind at a time.

well the proposal has the merit that you can mass produce base line components, without the subcomponent. You'd then be able to use subcomponents on custom orders.

This would allow people to buy what they need for now and order better stuff. Freeing the crafter to work on individual orders rather than getting bugged by 15 people all asking for the same things.

On the down side, you've already got people doing schematics of subcomponents, so if this idea was implemented you'd only need to hang onto the crates and crates of subcompoents you have and then put them into your component schematics.

To be honest how many people are going to want to sit and craft so many components by hand. They take so few resources, its almost not worth the time.

How is this fair? Master shipwrights now just rat-hole a bunch of 1000 use schematics, then they can craft upgraded components till their hearts content? If you want things fair, you need to keep the sub-comps factory craftable.

I've got to agree with you. Since launch ive wanted to be a starship builder. However, looking at this new system, I think I'm just going to build ships for my freinds and guildmates. Selling to the public is going to drive me insane.

I like the idea about limited production runs. There is no way im going to even attempt hand crafting for public sales.
