If the devs had any intelligence they would have put in subcomponent loot drops for ship parts. It will keep the SW's involved and crafting while keeping people hoping and hunting for the uber loot drops.
Only prob with this is that they would make it like Kryat pearls and such. Thus the same prob we have now. i can see it now WTS KRYAT ION CANNON LVL 1 1billion min 300 billion buyout!!! One thing would be allow crafted to be RE with looted thats a good idea i think it would prob work well. Also i feel missles need to be Nerfed on the materials needed Just make them like spice. set stats. 60k for a pack of 10 proton II is not helping the profession at all. They are not worth it.
Exaggeration aside the reason these things auction so high is because the crafter of that weapon likely had to pay "billions" to buy the Krayt Tissue to make the weapon from a combat character, have the best of the best materials to really make it worth "billions" and then risk a critical failure making his "billion" credit investment worthless.
On the missiles I think you already have an understanding on the cost. The material requirements are absolutely insane considering that they are expendable.
Before I get onto the question I want to clarify something about what most Shipwrights want. By and large we do not want to see Loot NERFed. What we want to see is the product (that we have dedicated skill points and millions of units of resourses to learn) is competative with that which can be aquired with no skill points and a much lower investment (ship chassis and some odd and ends for components).
Having improved crafted components would increase the supply of said items resulting in lower prices and more importantly level the playing field. The reality is that premium loot components are selling for HUGE prices and if/when PvP has purpose and meaning in space this will give an adge to those who have the money to buy them or the time to collect them. Having an edge for invested time, money and effort is important but it should never be to the extent where it becomes an "I Win" situation. This is part of what hosed up the ground game and it would be tragic if this problem moved into space.
