Exploitation of a game mechanic for what it is not intended to be ... interesting choice of words ....
The game mechanic in question is: the strage of items in a virtual "Stockroom" for 60 days after it is withdrawn from the market by the user or when the time allotted has expired. It will remain in storage until the user collects the item from the "Stockroom", places it back up for sale, or the time expires ... whichever comes first.
This is how it is intended to be used. That is how it was designed.
For the system to be exploited it should, by definition not be operating as designed. The arguments for this being "Exploited" for inventory purposes implies that there is some aspect that is not acting in the inteded roll.
1) The user should not use the Stockrom for extended storage is an exploit - To this I challenge based on the premise that if the developers did not want this to be used this way then why do they move things from the sale block to the Stockroom rather than moving it directly to the inventory when manually removed from the vendor sales. I also challenge by stating that vendors have limitations as well based upon the level of the merchant involved. Number of items for sale (and therefore stored on vendors as well) is one limitation.
2) The use of the organizing system is an exploit - If this is the arguement then why did this format get implemented.
It is my proposal that this system of the vendor storage for the Stockroom is not an exploited feature, but a Merchant feature being used as it is designed to be.
But that is one man'e opinion.

Got a Little tip for you for sorting out your loot.
If you are like me and store your space loot on a vendor before RE'g, then try this.
Set your sale price as follows;
lvl1 price 11111111
lvl2 price 22222222
lvl3 price 33333333
lvl4 price 44444444
lvl5 price 55555555
lvl6 price 66666666
lvl7 price 77777777
lvl8 price 88888888
lvl9 price 99999999
lvl10 price 10101010
When you're checking your loot all you need to do is sort by price in the appropriate ship subcomponent list to visually check how many items of the lvl you have.
Hope they eventually put a lvl column on loot items though.
Cheers
Whoa, spooky... I just started sorting my loot like this today without hearing the idea from you or anyone else. Only difference is that my level 10s are priced at 11111111 since I always RE the level 1s first thing. Maybe we're both glowing with the force! ![]()
It's a really good method for letting customers see what you've got, too, since the prices are so negotiable.

Exactly. The term stockroom implies that this should be used to store things. The only thing, that might be questionable is the use of price as a sorting criterion. This probably is not intendend for REing purposes.
However, this is a minor problem, which does not hurt anybody. There are other examples of unintended usuages that are tolerated. For example, people are paying other players to teach those players skills. The intended way is, that the pupil pays the teacher not the other way round. The way it is working in practice is clearly not intended. I would not call it an exploit, though.
Or what about a Doc paying another player to tumble, so he can collect his xp? This, too, is clearly not intended gameplay. Is this an exploit? Probably not, but it can be anoying.
X-server lot trades on the other hand, are clearly not indended and do have a noticable influence on server ecconomy. Those, I would call an exploit (as do others). Still, the devs did not fix this exploit, nor are people banned for using x-server lot trades. So, even while this has been named an exploit for some time, it seems to be accepted.
To conclude, not everything, that is used in a different way, then it was supposed to be used, is an exploit.

As soon as the devs institute a reasonable, efficient way to store a large volume of product/resources, I will stop using my vendors (which I got by attaining and MAINtaining Master Merchant) as storage. Anyone who says such things are exploits has never run a high-volume business.
