Thread: Engine Speed

Put in a looted engine with YPR around 60 and it is a whole new machine. I would rather have a 60/60/60 engine with a 75 speed than a 45/45/45 engine with a 90+ speed. I need to do more than fly in a straight line when I fight.
YPR can easily be above 45.

A customer of mine mentioned that they max out the speed on their Master level ship with a 98 speed engine. They used a 103.6 crafted one and said max speed in the ship was the same. YPR in this engine was mid 50s.
Hmmm, I heard someone else say the same thing - I figured they were nuts. They had a Nova Cruiser at the time.
I'm gonna go check this out tonight with the Privateer Master ships. If true, I'm severely disappointed that theres a hidden speed cap. I'm already at 103.5speed Mark Vengines and working on breaking that record. Why bother....

Cool. Where do you find engines like that? Every crafted engine that I see is YPR 45/45/45 or there abouts.

Here are the stats of an engine I made a few weeks ago:
Max Speed: 103.3
Pitch: 54.1
Yaw: 52.9
Roll: 54.1
Mass: 33476
With new resources I can probably improve on this and have with speed at 103.6. I'm going to mess with other stats later on to see what I can get for YPR.

Could you report back your findings? I'm still a lowly 2111 pilot so can't test for myself.

The chassis totally determines the Y/P/R. The readings on the engine are meaningless. There is no speed cap for fighters. I have exceeded 1300 in a Awing with engine overload 3. My fastest engine so far on flurry is 104.2 Mark V. and 90.4 mark iv
The chassis has a huge effect on the maximum YPR. I do vaguely remeber the other 3 stats on the engines (which are now hidden) being on the engine window. They used to change when you put the engine in a ship. It was truly bizzarre. Those three stats are totally determined by the chassis and that is why they were removed.
The YPR on the engine still has an effect on your ships maximum YPR. I was able to observer this with a 45/45/45 engine and a 56/56/56 engine. The speeds we almost identical (64 roughly). I did a series of "Yaw tests" using a fixed point of refernce and measured how long it took to make a full circle at a fixed speed. It was not completely scientific, but it was the best that I could do.
My current engine has a yaw rate higher than the pitch rate (6 points different). It is quite noticable that my yaw rate is higher that my pitch rate when flying. I now use more left-right manuvering that up-down manuvering because of it. What I like the mostabout my current engine is the fact that my longprobe looks like it has warp nacelles on it...
