I'm planning to reverse engineer items and sell them on a vendor. I'd like to name these items with a custom name to help the customer identify the name and type of the part, that it was reverse engineered, and that I was reverse engineer.
Problem is, a name like "RE Level 5 Booster by Megara" is rejected (reserved by the system, whatever).
I've experimented on various combinations, and had no luck finding a custom name that consistently works. (I wish you got more than one chance!)
In your experience, what naming conventions work every time? Or have you had success selling RE'd parts without a name change?

I suggest leave name field blank and let them get default name..

That's what I do, it gets frustrating to try and come up with something that just gets rejected.......especially when your going through alot of items looking for KSE disks!

I hear you. However, noone takes an equipment before looking at stats. You may just dump them with default names on a new vendor named Re'd parts.

Yeah, I was looking to get some advertising for myself by putting my name in the title, but without consistant naming do's and dont's I think y'all are right - default names a-go-go.

I have no problems as long as I have no spaces. I call things DS-RE-lvl6-Reactor or Darkstar-RE-lvl6I-Reactor. I never get rejected and always have my name in the part name to advertise. I use the same naming style for my regular parts too and they do not get turned into Mark as the part name. As for just grinding parts I just name them RE and move on that way I know what I have done and not done. Good Luck

NM.... Nomhad responded by I did...
Has anyone ever gotten the system to accept a custom name on RE'd parts? It seems to me that the item is already created and in my inventory before/when the box pops up to give it a custom name. This may just be a bug in the RE'ing process that is related to regular crafting. In regular crafting the option is there to rename whatever you make. The system could be confused in this aspect and simply popping that window up out of habit (for lack of a better definition).
Just my 2cr worth...

I don't use Numerics. I don't know if they work in the middle of words, but when next to a space, they get rejected. When making RE items I name them "PeaslyComponent RELevel" where component is what it is, Booster, Engine, etc and Level is a Three, Four, Five, etc.

If you put spaces in do not use numerical number (1, 2, 3, ....) Use roman numerals (I, IV, X, ...)
Do not use !'s
Do not use 's
I typicaly discribe each stat genericaly ( for a 1100 energy 50 recharge 20k mass capacitor = Good energy Sweet recharge Kinda Heavy)
Works great, also if its above average it goes onto the HQ component vendor for a raised price, They sell like hot pi3

You really need a chance to rename items if the name filter rejects them. I've got a number of pilots who like to put custom names on their items and it's quite frustrating when the names they want seem to be approved at random. One of them came up with the ingenious idea of having me RE a level 1 item, then trying to give it the name he wanted for his level 10 gun; if it went through the filter, great, and if it didn't, he'd grab another level 1 and we'd try another name until one he liked got through. This works well to ensure a name you like, but it's still a hassle, and you're not always near a few spare level 1 items.
In my experience, using Arabic numerals (2, 6, 8--you know) and any official SW corporations (Sienar, Kuat, Imperial, etc) will get rejected. Those are the only consistent patterns I've found yet.

Renaming them is rather simple, and I use a simple convention so that RE'd parts cannot be confused with NON RE'd parts.
(Many many pilots bring me stuff for RE that has already been done, and they didn't look enough to notice no RE lvl).
Blaster cert III RE
ComboGun cert IV RE
et cetera
Numbers (3,4,5) are rejected
Spaces used to cause rejection but no longer do.
Special Characters cause rejection.

I mark all of my parts as L(evel)(Roman Numerical Equivalent) RE (Item Type) from Starship Enterprises.
Yes that all fits in there. So if I RE a L4 engine, it gets named: LIV RE Engine from Starship Enterprises.

I always have my shipwright custom name my items when I have him RE them for me. If I'm not sure if the name will be rejected or not, I grab a level 1 item off the bazaar and have him test the name on that first. Some of the names I've had him use...
Rainer Shipyards Elite Turbolaser (I've had him use this on three level 10 guns.)
Industrial Automaton Custom Flight Management Controller (was for a level 10 droid interface.)
Salvaged Star Destroyer Armor Plating (was for some low mass, high protection level 8 armor.)
Overstar Industries Mark X Capacitor (was for a level 10 cap.)
I realize that putting all these costum names on things that are only for personal use is a little pointless, but I like doing it none-the-less.
