Thread: Will Smugglers ever be able to Slice Ship Components.

Smugglers can Slice Weapons and Armor, so why cant they Slice Ship components like Han did in the moives?


This would add a new level to the Shipwright profession and build ties to the Smuggler profession. I see this as a win-win scenerio.


Whats your thoughts on this?





I just hit a bunch of buttons and hope everything works out.

I seem to remember reading in one of the revamp doc's something about that, at least for the new POB ship parts...I could be wrong though >_>

Thunderheart indicated in the smuggler's forum (or the thread discussing the smuggler revamp) that smugglers would be able to slice ship components.

Can't say Ive heard anything concrete but it would breath more life in Space and shipwrights. It would be a very interesting change. So far, I've looted better ship equip than I could find on any shipwright vendor, and I even know a master Shipwright would couldnt beat my stuff with his best resources.

but now it's looking like Smugglers will get their "special modifications" for their YT's after all. When? who the hell knows...

I remember there being some talk of not granting smugglers the ability to slice ship components because ship stuff is/was considered already balanced. On the other hand, you've got the smuggler In Concept docs that mention being able to slice POB ships in some fashion.

The two aren't mutually exclusive--POBs are underpowered in just about every way, so there's plenty of room to allow performance enhancements from slicing.

Starfighters would be much trickier. They aren't all essentially equal in the way POBs are; if every ship component could be sliced for a 5% stat bonus, say, this doesn't play out equally between heavy fighters such as B-Wings, Oppressors, and Krayts as it does with light fighters, the A-Wings, Advanceds, and Dunelizards. Heavy ships can fit more components and of much higher level and effectiveness than light ships, and the advantages they'll gain from slicing would probably come out to be many more than what light fighters would see from our smuggler services.

That said, if you've got any ideas for how to make it work, I'm always open to suggestions. As the changes to ground game slicing shows, there's just a lot of difficulties in adding another layer of complexity to an already complex combat system.

Just a quick thought, but seeing as the slicing revamp is supposed to allow us to choose what we mod, maybe for ship components we can either increase say the power of a laser turret(which will also increase the power used per shot) and we can lighten it (reducing the condition so it doesnt last as long after large amounts of damage).

I always felt they should have allowed YPR's on crafted only engines to be sliced instead of boosting SW's experiment results. Just be able to slice some of them up to par or almost with RE.

I think if it were to happen, the only thing slicing would do will be to max out the particular part's stat(s). Like how slicing is working right now with weapons & armor.

I really hope your right about this and they dont go back on that like they did during beta in the summer when they said they were going to do it before JTL released.
