Alright.. I'm sure someone here has dealt with or dealing my situation and I gotta see what everyone else does.
I'm the Shipwright for a small guild. Also weaponsmith and former-tailor. Now, with Tailoring and Smithing, I'd supply the guild with their needs free of charge because in the grand scheme of things, a gun would take maybe 100-150 resources.. and a outfit.. maybe 1k of Inert Petro and a bit of hide.
The problem is now... I tried to do the same with Shipwright. Chassis alone destroyed my resource stockpile in a week. Is it fair to charge guildies for resources used? Not for a profit, just to replenish what they use. I've been battling with this... Am I just not planning ahead enough.. or is it really just impossible?

yeah I came from a small guild also. my previous profession was smuggler so i always did all the slicing for the guild free of charge. it got to be a hassle but it posed no financial burden on me do to the nature of the service. However, with shipwright I wouldn't give people free chassis. I would be broke in a week. However I am also in a much larger guild now. If a guild member wants a chassis, get resources or money. obviously you dont need to turn a profit off your guild mates but you need to recoup your loses. Tell them you need X steel, X aluminum, X ore etc and ask them for help.

Large guilds would normally help you with the resources. Either by donating, or helping to fund them. Smaller guilds, who don't help would necesarily have to buy the ships/parts from you. You could very easily sell for cost + 1cpu to help you gather additional resources. In the end you're helping your guild more by having additional resources available.

When I was architect for my guild - I used to charge them 1cpu for everything.
That covered my maintenance and power, and a little more besides, so I could afford to run the harvesters for another few weeks on guild stuff - that might be worth thinking about ?
Don't feel guilty at all - when you are looking at Shipwright and Architect quantities, they can either wait, or help you out.
Just explain the situation and any reasonable guild member will be more than happy to help you out.
I'm offering my guild free ships and components up to Tier 4. Master level ships they will have to contribute to, and they are already donating resources and looted components to me every day - as they know how much it takes. We have a guild of 11 players - so pretty small, but it works :-)

I sell ships to my guild at 2 cpu to cover my costs.
Components and parts the get for Free in exchange for any loot they cannot currently (or in the near future) use for their ship.
Works out well for both of us I think.
If by some small chance I do acquire a Firespray from that loot...my guild of course would get first crack at buying it.

It really depends on you bank balance and how many resources you have. My guild supply me with a fair ammount of resouces and place harvesters for me when they have lots spare, so I try and give them as much free stuff back as possible. Larger chassis are a load of resouces tho so I dont see anything wrong with charging guild members a bit for these, better this than running out of resources and going broke

hear's how I handle things with my guild....now keep in mind we use TS and are pretty good friends, so much so we're all arranging a Los Vegas get together in Feb.
I charge the public 10cpu for chassis, my guild I charge 5 cpu, however I have also tolf my guild "you bring me resources, you get a ship". This is a no harm no foul situation and everyone is happy. I'm sure once your guild mates see what a SW has to use in order to make a single ship they'll understand

My guild Is like a family, we help eachother. When I started on SW they gave me +1mil resources for the grind, and now I feel obliged to give 'em free everything (We have like 20 Harvesters working just for me

Everyone in my PA gets a blanket 30% discount on anything they buy. If the PA provides me with the resources, I will build the chassis and/or components for free. As for the Firespray schematic I will be reserving 1-2 ships (depending on the number of uses the schematic has) for Master BH's in the PA. Those will be free.

Unfortunately, nobody in my guild of over 100 people has helped me, or even offered to help, with resources. This is why I charge full price to almost everyone in the guild.

I don't charge my guildies for anything coming from my SW Skill.
It is a smaller guild and I have pledged free ships. In order to do that, I have asked that they pledge lots, maintenance costs and sometimes power to a mass of harvesters, in order for me to reach Master SW and also keep up with supplying the Guild.
Because of this, my Resource CPU is a bit lower then the average or .2CPU and I make a significant profit on anything I sell at 2.5 times the resource. Of course, selling isn't as important to me as it is for some people. So, I typically make a handful of ships for sale and then holler at one of the major starports about inexpensive ships with low-low prices.
So far, I have only had to sell 3 or 4 of them to obtain enough credits to keep my harvesters up and running. Having millions of available credits isn't as important to me as providing low-cost ships to players that would otherwise be stuck with a low-end starfighter as they work their way up the tree to something with more capabilities, like a Tier 3 or 4 starfighter.
It's possible to both supply your guild for free and support a low-cost ship sales outlet if your guild provides you with the same kind of help you are providing them.

Some thoughts:
1. Charge them what you paid for resources (free labor)
2. Barter them for stuff of value equal (a full suit of composite for an xwing).
3. Explain to the guild that the resources involved in chassis are emmense and you can't give free rides anymore. If the guild itself helps to supply the resources then you could give great discounts.
Being friends with people is no reason to ruin your business.

Im in a fairly small guild (20-30 people) and this is how I do things:
1) 20% discount on everything
2) Extra 10% per heavy harv placed for me
3) Extra discount for donating resources (%age depends on amount donated)
Seems to work, only a couple moan, I just moan back
